This is really a joke by White Dwarf, but if this isn't Cawl's attempt to use traitor geneseed over Guilliman's orders, I am Matt Ward.

P.S. If you don't get it, the Emperor's Children iconography and naming are off the charts. I really like the candles myself.

Who cares about the Emperor's Children in disguise, tell me where they got those candles from.

I second this. Also is there any particular thing they used for those sick bones bolted to the shoulder?

I believe the bones are from the Fantasy Ghouls sprue (or, alternatively, from whatever the Age of Sigmar We Can't Copyright "Ghouls" is called).

I am ranging between awe, given the awesome conversions, suspicion, because those are more likely to be 3rd as opposed to 7th, and utter annoyance, because WHY WOULD YOU WEAR CANDLES IN A FIREFIGHT?! Oo

Ambiance.

I suspect they were going for a Emperors Children successor, found out thats not really where the fluff is at yet, and picked Rogal Dorn at random.

Maybe they're scented?

Well, that would explain why there is a great many men and women follow. The smell. Though I wonder how many candles survive the first firefight :D

Or maybe it's just GW trolling the fanbase? Someone in the Studio has to know that anything that even slightly suggests Traitor geneseed origins will be seized on as established as fanon, however little sense it makes.

I'm pretty confident it's this.

The combination of purple, Phoenix, and that heraldry all point to the same legion. At the same time, it has Rogal Dorn listed as Primarch, so nothing confirmed, only obvious hints.

I mean in Dark Imperium Cawl's flunkey did tell Guilliman that he had tested traitor and even the lost legion geneseed and found no defects, but Guilliman refused to let them be used.  So I fully expect that Cawl has a skunkworks where he did just that and then fudged some stuff to make them seem like he didn't. Pretty cool either from a way to have "loyal" Traitor Legions, or might foreshadow Chaos primaris down the road.

What's the big deal about Gene Seed anyway. Everyone feels the lure of temptation and genetics play no role in ones ability to resist...

Moral failing isn't the only evil condemned by the Imperium of Man; mutants are sinners by dint of birth. One does not always have to be tempted to fall to chaos, sometimes you just get unlucky and are born warped. Also, you are assuming all geneseed is equal and pure, which it isn't. Sometimes it may be flawed, like the Black Dragons, and sometimes it is terribly flawed and corrupt, like the Blood Gorgons. Sometimes the temptation to fall to chaos isn't just moral, it can be physical and possess a genetic component.

Even space marines don't want to introduce the specter of troublesome, unstable geneseed into their stock. Even drawing on the rare, untainted pre-Heresy gene stock of the traitor legions seems to be inviting ruin or ill-luck. That doesn't stop some uppity Magos from trying, though.

Honestly, I see nothing but a chapter trained by Black Templar. People seem to have forgotten the current BT lore has them fully onboard with worship of the God-Emperor. Not to mention BT, possibly more than any other well-known chapter, have been depicted with candles on their armor.

Yeah, people are reaching. Crusades, faith, spectacle, holy men, these have literally nothing to do with EC. It's either Templars, or Word Bearers if you really want to go traitor route. Ditto for armour, besides the purple accent, it fits pre-Lorgar WB more. What's next, Flesh Tearers being closet World Eaters because both are red and have round logo?

I don't think you understand 40k. Stop being rational.

Those with certain genes went traitor, so that means certain genes are predisposed to being traitorous.

Also, the candles are because his armour is contempt and faith is his shield. They probably provide a 6++.
