Strikes or Terminators?

General Strike

Recommended Posts

Strikes cost more than half of Terminators, whilst being as effective offensively and slightly less so defensively. The latter offset is not worth taking Terminators over Strikes.

Paladins are it marginally cheaper whilst being better on both fronts than Terminators. That's why Terminators are in a void at this point.

The only reason you want troops in your GK army is to fill slots for a battalion and get bolter fire for anti-infantry. Strikes are the cheapest way to do it and they have the advantage of being able to embark on vehicles, so they are the obvious choice.

Most terminator variants are bad right know because they are too weak for their high point cost. There are too many multi-dmg weapons and the new ap sytem makes a 2+ armor not that amazing. Also, their heavy weapons are now a lot worse, and most of their melee weapons are not great.

In fact, even paladins are slightly overcosted and it is just better to spam apothecaries instead.

Actually most of our units are not competitive right now. Apart from GMNDKs, apothecaries, strikes, razorbacks, stormravens and draigo (and maybe doomglaives), everything is pretty much unplayable. Luckily, those are enough to make a competitive army, as strikes and vehicles give you anti-infantry while the rest of the army while the rest of the army tanks and kills big targets, while being very mobile and having a lot of offensive power, both in the shooting and psychic phases and in melee.

I had a fun game vs my daughter last week. Her first self build list too. She run a soup list with saint, 4 apothecaries and 3 culexus and 2 strikes vs my csm. The amount of self healing was realy suprising. that and her clearly inherting her mothers dice rolling luck, I mean who knew that single psylancers are the best anti DP weapons .

Terminators are simply overcosted at the moment. They should be 38 points base (before weapons). That would make them on par with Strikes for staying power, with the downside of fewer Smites, Sanctic options, drops, melee output and storm bolter. I think we get taxed too highly for them being Troops. As others have mentioned, Termies are great offensively but their 2W status is largely offset by all the D3 or 2 damage weapons in the game. As just one example, my Strikes routinely murder Terminators if they get a charge.
