Hello everyone, I'm a neophyte in the hobby, started out at 500 points and trying to finish out a 1000 point list now. Here's what I was thinking. I'll be running it with Cadian doctrine. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The tactics are pretty self explanatory, the two autocannon squads hold the backfield with a commissar and company commander while the rest of the army pushes forward. Scions will deep strike. I've got most of the pieces for this already, just need to build the tank commander. I'm magnetizing the russes so I can swap out the weapons, but I do like the battle cannon.

If necessary I could swap out the chimera for a taurox and use those 30 points, maybe give autocannons to the other infantry squads, although I'm not a huge fan of the taurox's aesthetic. My chimera isn't magnetized, so I'm stuck with the ML & HB.

Thanks for the feedback!

Looks good. Only thing, commissars cannot take chainswords anymore. Only melee options for them are fists and power swords

Thanks, but I'm not sure you're correct about commissars only taking power swords.

The text says "A Commissar is a single model armed with a bolt pistol" and "This model may take up to two items from the Melee Weapons list."

The chainsword is listed as a zero point option in the melee weapons list in the back of the codex (page 129), so I assume it's okay for a commissar to take one? I'm just trying to shave some points off my list.

Yes it can take two items from the Melee Weapons list. Melee weapons (p85) are Power sword and Power fist. Thats it. I would love for commissars to be able to take chainswords again, but they cannot.

Trying to shave points? lets have a look then. Maybe removing the russ sponsons? Or dropping the chimera and the vets? Depends what your are also trying to fit in the list.

I agree with you imperial guard! The commissar should be able to take a chainsword if it is listen in the weapons list.

Personally, I´m not a big fan of grenade launchers and autocannons. A lascannon for example, on average, deals twice the damage to vehicles for only 5 points more. A heavy bolter deals more damage to infantry for half the cost. A plasma gun beats the grenade launcher in almost every respect.

But that may be a personal preference for more specialised weapons. Autocannons and grenade launchers may not be the best at their job, but can take on both infrantry and light vehicles.

I stand corrected, Halfpint is right. The chainsword is indeed not listed as a melee weapon option for Commissars. That´s a real bummer, but worth the consideration giving him a power sword if you have the points to spare.

Dang, didn't realize where the wargear list was. Good catch, Halfpint.

So, I got to shave 8 points off the list. One option would be to remove the plasma pistol from the vet squad, and switch the three plasma guns to meltas.

Alternatively, I could go for a Taurox, switch a company commander for a platoon commander, or swap the the lascannon on the tank commander for a heavy bolter. I could also shave the grenade launchers out of the list, but I do like the fact that they provide a bit of versatility to the infantry squads.

Any recommendations?

...wait a minute. Feth me, I'm a moron.

I don't have to take any melee weapons on my commissars, right? I mean, the model comes with a nice looking sword on him, but I can just run him as not having any weapons beside his bolt pistol. That's my eight points right there, correct?

How about this: you remove the vets entirely and exchange them for 2 special weapon teams with plasma guns. That´s 2 more bodies, 3 more plasma guns, and for only 90 points! That saves you 14 right there, allowing you to buy some extras.

I would pick a boltgun for the commissar if you can model it somehow. Same points cost, better range and more bullets.

I agree with you on the Taurox. Purely for aesthetic reasons I´d never even consider one compared to the Chimera.

Correct! Its not WYSIWYG, but eh
The chainsword thing is a pain though because I often run my Mordian commanders as commissars and they're modelled with a chainsword. I just say they're a CCW (which means nothing this edition) and try to remember not to add the extra attack. Not that WS3+ S3 is game breaking ...
