So... how are Deathshroud doing?

It's been a few weeks since the codex came out and I'm curious, just because I've seen bugger all discussion about 'em.

How are Deathshroud Terminators faring? I ask because back during the release the general opinion was that they were soundly 'meh' on paper. But seeing as a fair few people bought 'em for the models and have had a while to mess about with them I'm curious about how they've actually been working out on the table.

I've had 3 games with mine.

The first I had deployed on the board to soak up for mortarion vs eldar with a ton of fire power as I should have been going second. Ended up stealing the initiative and they were left behind, eventually killing a wave serpent, some guardians and eating a couple of turns of dark reaper fire. A solid meh against a strong shooting army.

Second game them and my Daemon Prince were charged by 15 gsc stealers and a patriarch, juiced up with their psychic power. He had 75 total attacks from the stealers with 60 on the Prince with miasma. A total of 11 ended up on him; needing to hit through miasma and then having those hits syphoned off on a 2+ is really good. In total he did 1 wound to a shroud and 2 to to the Daemon Prince. Fantastic performance against a pretty good match up for them.

Third game they fought another unit of 15 stealers in buff range of a patriarch. They killed the stealers over a couple rounds and we're then finished off by the patriarch. Another pretty good performance.

End result is that they're either used to eat a round of shooting against msu ranged armies, or they'll trounce melee oriented armies and give your opponent a fit as their dozens of attacks get allocated to a unit that at worst has a 4++ 5+++. They're circumstantial, but do very very well in their environment

Played them on Friday against a buddy’s Thunderwolf list. By the end of the game they had 10 Thunderwolf kills to their name. The game boiled down to a huge Melee in the center of the table, and they were instrumental in keeping his heavy hitters away from objectives. They (and Typhus) earned a permant spot in my list.

I always use a unit as a body guard for my warlord Plague Caster and they do pretty well, with my warlord buffing them with Arch Contaminator plus a few powers they can murder pretty much anything they get in contact with. My Plague caster has never died in a game that I have fielded the Deathshroud with him as they are pretty Resilent with a 4+ inch plus DR able to tank all but the heaviest firepower

They are quite slow but the rest of my army is only plague marines and dreads so it's not as bad since everything in my army is moving forward at the same pace anyway

I'm just coming back into 40k after a long absence and I haven't finished painting up my Deathguard army yet to see any game time, but I'm building the list around an Arch-Contaminator LoC and 3 Deathguard cruising in a landraider. On paper, if all 4 models make it into combat they take out anything less than a knight in a single round of combat (and even then, EXTREMELY lucky dice make it possible.) I realize this is an edition that doesn't favor elite close combat units, but it's hard not to drool over results like that. Coming from years spent playing WFB/T9A, obliterating things in melee is a core part of what makes a game "fun" for me, and in a Deathguard list these scythe-toting terminators fulfill that requirement nicely.

I am playing a fast moving army at 750 points wich is doing pretty good and I am looking to upgrade with some Terminators, they are just very iconic to 40K.

Now I am still thinking and trying to figure out wich ones are better then Blightlords or the Deathshroud. I have to be honost that I like the looks and the fluff of the Deathshroud a lot better and I think they can work in my 1000 points list.

My list is the following:

Prince, Wings

7 Plague Marines, Power Fist, 3x Plasma Gun

Rhino

2x Drone, Spitters

What do you guys advice?

The Deathshroud can work. Just teleport them in on the first turn to where you want to move your prince. Make sure they are as close to the enemy that you want to charge as possible and use them and the prince as a huge beat stick. At 1000 points most armies are going to struggle against them. And you have rhino and two drones that can take objectives and provide supporting fire-power.

  • 3 weeks later...

Gonna face Deathshrouds later today with my EC in a small points game. I'll simply hope to kill them with Smite and the Mortal wound Bolter Stratagem before they kill me. Not gonna bother shooting at them with my regular weapons while there're still other targets left.

Turns out 3 Deathshrouds die rather quickly against a smite and 10 Noise Marines supported by Stratagems and rerolling 1s. :D

Your lucky they didn't get the charge against you as I've found Deathshroud massacre any large marine squad quite easily that's why I keep a blob of poxwalkers nearby so I can use the strategem so they can only target the poxies and not the deathshroud

Yeah I'm very happy I managed to get rid of them early lol

He had 10 Poxwalker infront of them, however we killed them first and I'm also not sure he knew about that Stratagem. He tends to forget many of his rules and played DG for the first time that match. ^^

Based on the "leaked" chapter approved cost reduction to 35pts, how much cheaper is that than the moment? Will it make DS even better?

15ppm cheaper if the cost for gear stays the same. So a unit of 3 would cost 180p instead of 225p.

My last battle I charged three of them (Typhus failed his charge) into a Repulsor tank and they took it out with ease in first round of combat (12 inch charge roll was awesome).  Took all the over watch on the way in and then mangled the 5 hellblasters and Captain with Powerfist that were inside it.  That was the best I have had out of them.  I think once they get into combat they are heavy hitters.
