Woo! I'll be sure to have my mate who does my Shapeways orders put those in on his next one. Finally can add Phobos units to my Dark Angels easier now :laugh.:

Seriously, thanks to these new parts (including the Deathwing Gravis pads) between you and PopGoesTheMonkey, I'll never have to use transfers on any of my Dark Angels.

Again, thank you so very much!

Thing is, if you use those pauldrons on the Marine's right arm, instead of left, the Chapter icon for the animals will be facing the wrong way ("in retreat from the enemy" rather than pointed toward them "advancing on the enemy").

I've always been of the opinion that a symbol that points a certain direction should always point that one independently of its position. A specular version would be a different symbol.

But in real military and in 40k the symbols especially animal symbols always face the enemy.

I'm in agreement. When a marine is in the Deathwatch, unless their Chapter's symbol is symmetrical, it's always flipped so it's facing towards the enemy. So, the Lion head and Shark symbol would need to be flipped so they're properly facing for the marine's right shoulder.

It's a heraldry thing. Any kind of animal that has a facing is to be pointed towards the enemy, as if it's pointing away it's symbolizing cowardice/dishonour.

Damn nice Phobos Grav shoulder pads. Wish I’d thought of that before gluing standard pieces on. Going to look for a separate eagle/raptor head to glue to the pads of my Warhawks

Deathwatch Fluff states that they take their left pauldron, and move it unaltered to the right to appease the machine spirit of their armour.  That suggests to me that if the symbol was not symmetrical it would no longer face "forwards".

But the minis come with shoulder pads facing forward and all artwork backs this up too so the fluff is probably wrong.

That's interesting, wonder where that bit comes from, because here's the snippet I could find from the current Codex:

1. Chapter icon

When a battle-brother ritually repaints his colours to those of the Deathwatch, he keeps his former Chapter icon upon his right shoulder guard, as a mark of honour to the Chapter that fashioned him into a warrior of such veteran skill.

Doesn't specify direction, nor movement of the pauldron, but it does indicate that the suit of armor is repainted, so I could see one of two things being possible:

1) Repainting of the armor includes repainting the Chapter icon being painted or a raised detail/sculpted icon being applied on the right pauldron,

2) Raised detail/sculpted/artisan Chapter icon or painted icon on left pauldron is left as is and is flipped to become the right pauldron.

I guess it's just up to the player to decide for themselves which orientation that someone wants to use for their pauldrons. Luckily the Reliquary now has both orientations available!

7th ed ‘dex says as much, and it also mentions the possibility for marines to don armour taken from the Deathwatch’s own supplies, which would clearly result in the marine having to actually repaint the right pauldron into his chapter’s own colors... Edited by Brother Casman

Actually Ezr91aeL, I've got a query:

What are the "Valoris" pads supposed to be? Like, are they terminator pads or?

Sorry for the late answer. The Valoris pattern, like the other "Super-heavy" patterns is bigger than the others pads and compatible with most GW's Terminators and Gravis kits.
