Best Dread list army

General Strike

Recommended Posts

I'm looking into some Dread lists, and have narrowed it down between three contenders, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Death Guard.

Blood Angels get several specialized dreadnoughts, such as the DC Dread, Librarian Dread, and Furioso Dread. The Furioso is a good balance of AT and anti-infantry, the Librarian dread is a HQ Psyker Dread, and the DC is a beast in melee.

The Wolves have Axe and Shield Dreads, Bjorn handing out re-rolls, and Murder Mcmurder.

Death Guard have Brutes which can be built melee, anti-infantry and anti-armor. The biggest benefit is not having -1 to fire on heavy weapons.

What do you guys think?

dc dread costs 50+ pts more (dont have the book infront of me) than a wolf dread with axe/shield

brutes are basically vanilla dreads to my knowledge

currently id say wolves out of those three - but that might change with points/stat/rules adjustments in codex releases

Depending on mission, I would go for Alpha Legion or Death Guard. Take your dreadnoughts and hellbrutes and cluster them around a couple of deredeos to give your army invuln saves because lascannons are nuts. Alpha Legion are nice for static gunlines (if you have to move they get a bit inaccurate) and Death Guard are a bit more mobile and can head toward objectives or play peek-a-boo with LOS blocking terrain and cover.

GK.

Doomglaive Dreads with a HQ Dread of your choice.

Sadly this loses you the +1cast/deny.

Most OP Dreads are FW Hellforged Contemptors with dual soulburners.

Mortal wounds on hit. Can regen from Melee kills. And if they don't move can shoot twice at closest target.

Those things are pure cuss.

I don't see any rules that allow a hellforged contemptor to fire twice if it didn't move. Where can I find that? Is it on Warhammer Community?

Contemptors only regain wounds if they slew models in the fight phase (excluding overwatch) and even then its only on a 5+ roll for each model slain.

Dual soul burners have a 24" range and cost 120 points. I don't find this contemptor loadout compelling, but perhaps I am missing some rules.

My chaos decimator is usually dead after turn 2 and it has (mostly) the same loadout options and a guanateed wound regenerated every turn.

In 7th I found Blood Angels to have the best dread list due to variety and the force org chart placement. I don't think those advantages hold on the current edition.

I can bring Techmarines for my HQ for any loyalists, including GK. Are doomglaive in the codex, or are they FW?

They can hold in this edition purely cause they have a HQ Psyker Dread, but with GK dreads, I can shoot/fight and smite something.

Doomglaives are FW.

The shoot twice is a chaos hellbrute strat.

Dual soulburners are 24" range, that cause a mortal wound on a hit roll. No Str v Toughness roll.

With the strat and a nearby reroll 1 aura that's 4d3 mortal wounds on the closest unit.

Melts everything in the game. From chaff, multiwound infantry units (thanks to mortal wound spillover) and the toughest vehicles.

Then they still have thier ccw to rip stuff up in cc and regain wounds.

Totally bonkers obnoxiousness.

Edit. All soulburners are stupid. Decimator included.

But the hellforged contemptor has a bs 2+, and should be in a reroll aura.

(Also not really sure Decimators count as dreadnoughts.)

Imma let you finish, but Salamanders have the best Dreadnoughts of ALL TIME.

Each one re-rolls a hit per turn in shooting and assault! Plus you can bring Brayarth Ashmantle, undisputed champion of all Dreadnoughts.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Tough. SW would be my first though. The Blizzard Dreads are insanely durable, while Bjoern und Murderface can easily hide and pack quite a punch. Iron Priests on TWC can repair and keep up.

But then we have SM with Ven Dreads, the FW Salamanders Dread and the Ironglad. I guess if you want shooty Dreads, go SM or maybe BA. If you want choppy Dreads, go SW.

For me, it seems like SW or non glaive GK are best for me. I have never worked with resin, and living in the states I pay a premium for FW beyond the already premium prices of FW cause of the exchange rate. I might be willing to go sallies, cause on thing from FW isn't gonna kill me.

But in general it seems like GK and SWs are the top two, with a close match from DG, BA, and Sallies behind.
