question about the Phosphor rule.

Ok so the rule says " Units attacked by this weapon do not gain any bonus to their saving throws for being in cover." It used to work for other units shooting the same target, but the wording have changed and now i am not so sure.

Soo does that mean the it only works for the gun doing the shooting, or does it also work for the other weapons in the units. And what about other units shooting the same taget?

To confirm, it is as listed in the entry for the gun - it only works on that weapon. A simplification from before, but as mentioned the guns are pretty strong already!

'It was like that in the last edition' is a dangerous curse that we all get if you play the game long enough. I still find myself subconsciously reaching for two dice when one of my units is about to move through cover.

This is the correct interpretation.  Interestingly, it seems 8th edition promotes Abilities "on Weapons" and "on Units" separately.  For example, Phosphor ignores the cover save bonus as it applies to that weapon's firing, whereas Space Marines with the Imperial Fists Chapter Tactics ignore the cover save bonus entirely, meaning any weapon they use ignores this bonus.  This seems to delineate between a property of a weapon and a model's proficiency in warfare, which I think is pretty cool  :)

It could probably go either way so it would come down to the exact wording of when something counts as attacked. Is it when the unit is actively being shot at or does a unit attacked by something stay that way for a length of time? Since it doesn't give a clear indication of when it would end best to just play it as only applying to the weapon itself until an FAQ comes out saying otherwise.

Also any argument that hinges on, "Well that's how it used to work," carries no weight since so many things changed.

I would make no argument on that's how it used to work in this case.. i simply said that it used to work that way and now the wording have changed.

I'm starting to question if the issues with 8th edition 40k rules aren't GW's writing but the players over complicating what used to be simple concepts.  Whether or not this is for personal gain or simply to pick nits is another can of worms entirely, but any argument about "timing" smacks of MtG and therefore makes me sad for the future of 40k on the whole  :(
