Vehicle Design Rules

V 3.0


 

These rules are based upon the Vehicle Design Rules presented in Chapter Approved 2017. The aim of these rules is to expand the list of weapons available to the custom Land Raider.


 

Building the Land Raider: use the following steps:

  1. Select Faction of the Land Raider

  2. Select Primary Weapons

  • Determines starting Transport Capacity

  1. Select Secondary Weapons

  • Selecting a secondary weapon and modify Transport Capacity as directed. Selecting secondary weapons changes the Land Raider from heavy Support to Lord of War

  1. Select Hull Mounted Weapons

  2. Select Wargear options

  3. List Abilities

  4. List Profile

  5. Keywords

7) PROFILE

All Land Raiders have the same profile. All Land Raiders created using these guidelines have a Power Level of 20 and the Heavy Support Battlefield Role. Those with a secondary weapon system are 30 Power Level and are the Lord of War Battlefield Role.

If your going to do that, I recommend giving chaos the ability to either leave the sponsons off or give them some version of weapons that increases transport capacity.

The lack thereoff is probably the worst example of missed opportunity

I'd be leaning more towards a Crusader/Redeemer analogue, but I don't know what weapons chaos should use as I've now run out of kitbash options and anything else will require converting. I wanted to keep it to kitbashing for now for simplicity.

 

Assault cannons are essentially free. So there is no reason to have the phobos loadout instead of two twin lascannon sponsons and one hull mounted twin assault cannon. Is that intentional?

Yes and no, as I wanted to stick to open play and leave out points for simplicity at this early stage. I plan on introducing a rule that give bonuses for different load outs like the current Terminus Ultra rule (like running out of ammo for a all ballistic load out). I want the VDR to allow making new Land Raiders, so making the phobos would be a bit of a waste. For the same load out it'd be 20 Power rather than 19 for no benefit.

Chaos unique weapons that I feel would suit a Land Raider are: Hades Autocannon, Reaper Autocannon and Ectoplasma cannons. All 3 of which need converting to be mounted on a sponson. Should I just add them anyway?

I like the "- two cyclone missile launchers 10TC*", though why wouldn't you make them Typhoon?  It's the same points cost, which in and of itself rather confused me when I read it the first time, and to be honest still confuses me.

Am I reading v3.0 right, that every loyalist land raider gets frag assault launchers? shouldn't those be limited to the "less powerful" sponson weapons like hurricane bolters and heavy flamers?

 

Do Thousand Sons intentionally lack wargear options like the combi bolter?

 

Your numbering is off from secondary weapons onwards.

 

I like the "- two cyclone missile launchers 10TC*", though why wouldn't you make them Typhoon?  It's the same points cost, which in and of itself rather confused me when I read it the first time, and to be honest still confuses me.

They also have the same profile, so the same cost isn't that remarkable. IIRC this missile launcher is only called CML when attached to TDA.

The Typhoon has a 48" range rather than 36" and has Heavy 2D6 frag missiles rather than Heavy 2D3.

Woops, I should have looked at them in 8th edition. In 7th and before they had the same profile.
