Specifically Ice Wariors of Valhalla. So with a company number and a mini story (see below) to kick me off, welcome to the caves comrades!Get up.Dust. No.....not dust.....coppery.....Get up......not copper...iron....my mouth is full of iron?Get up.Gums are thick with it......breathe....mask.....masks too damaged. Tear it off...fingers feeling like bars of iron themselves....get....mask.....offGet up.Drop mask.....where's my longarm? It was in my hands.....snug to my shoulder....fingers of iron....iron I can taste it still....its in the air.....there's my longarm. Can't grasp it.....Get up.......hooked the sling with my fingers....fingers like iron bars....broken two at least.....longarm scraping over cobbles to me....fingertips brush stock....whys my other hand not helping? I'm lying on it.....broken.....come on just get the longarm...Get up.How.....I'm on my knees? When did that happen? Longarm....in my right hand....good....left arm....useless. Tasting iron......blood mist. Has to be. Cpl.Svastiez was to my left...gone....mist....blood mist...Get up.Working on that. Use the longarm....thighs are burning....deep heat of exhaustion....push....get up....Get up.Boots scraping...feel like iron bars too....on my feet...at least I won't die on my knees. Longarm is cycling up....cables tangled....wait for tone....wait....there it is. Target....shadow in window. Finger....iron bar...squeeze trigger. Longarm punches pack into bruised shoulder. Better.....fight...keep on feet. Get to cover....sandbags to right....Dzienotz & Frophcer are there.Target...squeeze...bruised shoulder. Tone.....target....squeeze.....cover."Dzienotz....Svastiez....gone. Where's the support fireteam?"Tone.....squeeze.....out. Drat."Richtreach! We thought you had died with Svastiez and were striding the caves together?"Loading....one handed....iron fingers...."No....I'm here...I can fight. Longarms working. I fight."Frophcer was here? No....he's sitting now. Shards of bone for a chest....sucking, wet breathing....back to wall...sandbags to his right.....longarm snapping still in his left hand.....blood puddling"Comrades...we will walk the caves today..."Dzienotz barks a laugh, stands up and roars out another laugh."Then take it standing Frophcer!"Rounds plucking our greatcoats we rise. battle captain corpus Posted November 27, 2017 Author Share Posted November 27, 2017 Comrades! Quick update is in order. I have almost finished the first of 3 Commissar's attached to the 95th. This version is more of a haggard aging officer which I tried to convey through his lined and tired facial expression. I have been waiting for GW to produce a good snow effect for a while now and have purchased their Valhallan Blizzard (how apt for my hobby project!) texture basing material. If all goes to plan this gunk will festoon said companies bases very soon, starting with said Commissar! Front view Rear view I spent a great deal longer on this mini than I normally would or will for line infantry which will have the classic "faces and bases" treatment! I am planning a winter regiment as well and have yet to decide on basing. I do love the metal Guard units as you still get enough minis to make sure that there are no duplicates, something missing from the "new" plastic kits I feel! Also stumbled upon these naughty chaps, original metal Stormtroopers. Love these gujys and also dug out a full squad too so even better! That's all for today but hopefully another squad will be completed by the end of the weekend! May we walk the caves as heroes! battle captain corpus Posted December 11, 2017 Author Share Posted December 11, 2017 So...I managed to finally grab some hobby time today before work! Got around to sealing the bases on the first squad. Even though I "kink" the metal tabs to get a better fit on the slottabses I like to seal them with liquid greenstuff also. I can be heavy handed with minis and I like this insurance policy! I also finally got around to trying out the new texture paint "Valhallan Blizzard" for the bases. Its very thick like most of the basing materials but goes on very well. I used a sculpting tool but a small drinks stirrer etc would also suffice. I found spreading it out from the centre of where you apply it gets a much better effect. And yes...I know...same old Commissar but with added snow now!
