Necromunda Painting Campaign: Turf War

1 point for Devoted in Sump Town please.

The story of Goren Trant is a sad, but common one. Originally a juve in the Spider Clan, Goren was recruited into the Necromunda 8th and sent to fight the Emperor's wars across the galaxy. Through a combination of luck and skill, Goren survived engagement after engagement, eventually reaching the rank of sargeant. By all account he excelled within the role, although his continued survival whilst the young men he trained died around him began to wear heavily on his soul. Goren gave his hand and his eye to the guard andin  return he recieved an honourable discharge and a place on a freighter heading back to Necromunda. His homecoming was not what he expected, everybody that he had once known was either dead or had moved on with their lives. Furthermore, he found that the veteran hab complex had been burnt to the ground several years before during a gang war. Homeless, alone and abandoned by the empire he had served, Goren sunk lower into the Underhive.

It was there that he was found by the Church of The Emperor's Healing Hand, a sect of the Ecclesiarchy which operated charitable medical centres throughout the Underhive. He quickly assimilated into sect's ranks, adopting the position of sect enforcer. Goren now serves at the sect's leisure, acting as a bodyguard to The Deacon, providing security for the sect's facilities, or putting an end to the darker rumours which have begun to spread about the sect's practices. When not fulfilling his duties to the sect, Goren also acts as a mercenary, selling his decades of experience to the highest bidder.

With the ongoing conflict tearing Sump Town apart, Goren Trant's arrival suggests that the district will be recieving some much need charitable aid. The rumours currently support this, with several information brokers stating that Goren is seeking to buy several buildings in the Church of The Emperor's Healing Hand's name.

6 Devoted in Mutie Creek please. The inquisition doesn't care about peace, just about catching its prey...

Surprisingly close on the heels of Inquisatrix Lania Brule comes Inquisitor Daniel Talion of the Ordo Xenos, armed with heavy calibre pistol, Aeldari spear and kroot skinning knife. Accompanying him are the survivors of his mission into the space hulk - Sergeant Borj Castellan, Troopers Malik and Thorn, and Rogue Trader Sikander Marceau. The estimable trader now thoroughly regrets having given the inquisitor passage - all talk of treasure and fortune have evaporated among the deaths of most of his crew... And finally of course, Brother Galhuk of the Deathwatch, one of only 3 Astartes in my wider Inq28 collection and the first to get a coat of paint.

2 points to Guild in Rad Ash Falls please!

Next up, treasure hunter Aranaea Jones and her sidekick Hobbler. Rumoured to be half-Eldar, she is definitively one of the best people to hire if you want to get yourself some archaeotech from the deeps beneath your Hive.

Although I trimmed her ears, the blue-and-yellow colours hopefully evoke the old-school Alaitoc appearance of RT Eldar. Hobbler is just my 40k take on the halfling thief archetype.

This I like.  Now the question is syndicate or devoted.   Hmmm......   Devoted's kind of cool.  Makes for some interesting conversations.

Devoted Assassin's?

Or for the syndicate techno monster classics.   Creature from the black lagoon.  Wolfman,.   Vampire.   The mummy.    Zombies.  And The invisible man.

I think I'm going for monster classics.

Fantastic stuff everyone. Great amount of thought and imagination going into all of these, extremely inspirational stuff from everyone. :tu:

I'll be updating the map asap and we will also be starting the election campaign for Mayor of Sump Town, but more to come on that soon.

My idea so far. Still sourcing the minis. The “Classics”

Wolfman - Dog-Warriors

Infinity Model - Ariadna - bionic limbs/ crude armor plates / stitches in flesh/ cybernetic eye/ weapons.

Creature from the Black Lagoon. Possibly a full sculpt using an armored torso.

Vampire- undecided. I'm thinking of some kind of ironman meets batman/ mech armor here with a curved blade. So probably a future samurai of some kind. I’ll probably do a resculpt of the head.

Frankenstein.. probably going to paint together a torso of some larger ganger stitched together and a jar with a brain for a head. Which will probably be the hardest part..

Mummy -Some cool renegade skitari with bandages and rust coated mechanical harness.

The Invisible Man - Some sort of disappearing stealth expert.

More painted figures, this time the fantastic Forge World dog Macula to support my Arbites, and a lone adventurer in the Underhive, who attacks gangs of bullying criminals to help the little people. His relationship with the forces of law and order is just as fraught...

SUMP TOWN

The beginning of the Festival of Modran marks the end of the great monsoon season created high up above the smog clouds above the city. Participants don plastic coverings and create weird and wondrous masks before going out into the streets and brushing away at the ground with garishly painted brooms and sticks. Some Imperial scholars believe that the monsoons are created by moisture leaking from the many sewage pipes that line the roof of the great cavern and that the costumes actually represent early settlers with haz-mat suits cleaning up after the torrential rains have passed. This festival often leads to new comers to the city accidentally killing some of the party goers mistaking their costumes that are designed to drive out the foul spirits to be mutie invaders.

Princincts begin to replace the make shift guard stations that were hastily erected and patrols are now common place. The first formal arrests are made that do not result in immediate execution.

Prophets from the wastes begin to filter into the city but for the most part are largely ignored.

With order being established many look to the up coming Mayor election as a way to place their vote without fear of retribution from the local crime organisations.

RAD ASH FALLS

The long since abandoned trade routes that once linked the settlements are established once again. Heavily armed trade convoys begin to ply their trades between Rad Ash Falls and Sump Town with many guns for hire being recruited on a permanent basis.

With the local mutie bandits, Dune Shark attacks and rumours of green skinned monsters these hired guns prove to be invaluable.

The presence of these caravans sees a boost to the local economy of the Falls as small settlements begin to spring up along the trade routes providing all manner of services and wares to the passing Caravaners.

MUTIE CREEK

A wandering prophet by the name of Ushanka Noggrol manages to establish the Church of the Star Child despite the odds of success for such a venture being extremely low. A combination of events has lead to this success from this otherwise deluded individual, firstly the low intelligence of the population of Mutie Creek where constant exposure to the Psy-crystal mines have left many in an advanced deteriorating state of dementia or psychosis and that of his chance meeting with a Rogue Trader by the name of Prosdian Kreet.

Kreet, as often was the case had been leading an expedition deep into the Spire in the hope of retrieving lost tech that could be sold to repay his financiers that were hounding him for progress on the payments he owed after the rather disastrous expedition into the Grenful Cluster. His fleet had established contact with a long lost colony of man and after an unfortunate affair with the Kings daughter and the accidental arson of the royal stables Kreet and his companions were lucky to escape with their lives.

It had been in one of the many taverns of Sump Town that Kreet had been approached by Ushanka Noggrol, a troubled and foul smelling man whose considerable weight was held aloft by crudely constructed repulsors. Noggrol spoke of a child of light that had been born into the wastes to the far east of Sump Town. It was said his very prescence was enough to cure the sick and blind and that the ground he walked upon grew fertile and sprouted plants of all manner in his passing.

+++++INQUISITIONAL ORDER OMEGA ALPHA ONE SIX THREE PRIMUS: POTENTIAL OMEGA LEVEL PSYKER DETECTED, IMMEDIATE TERMINATE OR CAPTURE ORDER SANCTIONED. KILL TEAMS DISPATCHED.+++++

Kreet being the galaxy wearer travel of many centuries immediately recognised what could be a possible description of a powerful psyker that could present either a serious threat or a boon to the Imperium of Man. Unfortunately as he made his way back to his ship to report his findings to the Inquistion in hopes of a large reward to clear some of his debt Noggrol had managed to hand out many makeshift pamphlets to his crew and before long word had spread far as far as the dock yards of the spire itself and out into the stars.

BLACK FOG SHANTIES

With the spread of the Guild trade caravans so came the criminals that sought to profit from this new venture. With protection rackets and attacks on Guild Caravans becoming widespread in the region of the Black Fog Shanties it was time for the Enforcers to intervene.

A heavily armed force hit the streets of Black Fog like the wrath of the Emperor himself. Patrols went door to door, often in the middle of the night with spot searches for contraband. With such high arrest rates the first makeshift prison is created in the wastes to the north of the shanty town. Conditions are harsh and prisoners are forced to work the mines in the neighbouring region of Broke Neck Ridge instead of risking valuable autonoma or skilled work crews.

KILL TEAM: INCURSION

With the popularity of the Church of the Star Child spreading gradually off world via visiting trade ships and various transports various factions have turned their gaze to the world of Necromunda.

There are those among the minor factions of other races that would do well to seize such a prize or deny their enemies from taking the child for themselves. These rumours in themselves have already started to create minor fractures and decent in some of the larger organisations of the Imperium. While scant few know have learnt of this child theories are already beginning to gather strength, taking shape and form that could lead to salvation or ruination for those involved.

For now the stories are told in hushed whispers among lower authorities, those that might seize such an opportunity for themselves to allow them to make a grasp for power. Some would believe that the child is possibly the vessel of the Emperor, His holiness made whole. Others recognise such power as a threat, an unguarded yet incredibly powerful soul that might be turned or used as a gateway for the ruinous powers to lay waste to the underworld of Necromunda.

For whatever their motive, whatever their species of origin, many have sent teams of covert operatives to make their way deep into the depths of the wastes to investigate the stories further before committing more substantial forces.

KILL TEAM: INCURSION.

This is an event that allows you to gain territories in the same way as you would making a gang but with using regular Kill Teams.

From now until the 3rd of November 12pm GMT anyone can submit Kill Team models to the campaign in the same way as you would a regular gang member. The difference being that in order to claim a territory for a faction you have to complete TWO models.

So for example, say you make a guard kill team sent in to investigate the stories but one of the noble houses of the upper hive. For every two models you can claim one territory for the faction of your choice. So if you made two guardsmen you might say I want to claim two points in Sump Town for the Devoted, if you made four models you could claim two points and so on.

Now the important part is that this has to be a new kill team, it can't just be models you've plucked from your regular 40k army as this whole thread is about encouraging people to take part and paint their models for gaming.

So to recap with some rules:

You can only enter one kill team.

You can claim 1 territory for every two models you complete.

These must be new models for a team rather than completed models you already own so post WIP shots if you can.

The logic behind the Incursion is quite simple. This is a time of opportunity for many, say you are the likes of a lowly imperial Administrator or a low level member of the Inquisition this would be a huge boon to your career whether the target is destroyed or captured. A low tech priest of the Ad Mech may believe this is the Omnisiah reborn, a chaos Priest may see this a vessel to summon one of the dark gods.

In short everyone committing these teams to the fight has an agenda regardless of whether the rumours are true or not.

Not gang photos but more Underhive piccies (I'm not sure where else to post them :blush.: ).

On the outskirts of Sump Town lies Stranglevine Creek, a place where the sump Swamp meet the Underhive (warning large photos ahead  )

Those are really nice - good use of GW pieces mixed with scratch build - gives it a really hodge podge look which is entirely appropriate - of dwelling built on the sides of slag heaps like mushrooms on a log.

For some reason I particularly like the submerged crate. :)
