Primaris Iron Hands efficiency

Hi All!

At first I was skeptical about new Primaris marines as they were pricy and hard to include in the list, but with the recent CA price cut Im thinking about fielding them more.

 

So, what is your opinion on them for IH? How can we utilize them most efficiently?

Also, is there any way how we can overcome the lack of mobility? I do really miss some Rhino-like cheap transport for them, as Repulsor is kinda too costly point-wise and is a big bullet magnet.

with the reduced costs the iron hands players can buy more bodies so from a durability point of view i guess they can be some of the best meat shields in the game. if you want speedy primaris you're better off with inceptors. besides that there is no cheap fix for mobility at this point in time.

This is my current list . It's quite fun to play but not the most optimized . Carl and the captain stroll up field with the dreads and onager. Agressors ,Lt and ancient in replusor on one flank , vanguard's in the back field with a intercessor squad on objectives the other 2 squads on the other.

For IH Primaris are not bad since their main weaknesses are lack of transports (repulsor is way to expensive to be considered for line infantry) and the IH traits directly boosts their survivability on the ground. I wouldn't do a whole army of them but they are good meat shields for our vehicles.

 

Helblasters and Inceptors are the only units I would consider on a limited basis to do anything other than be bullet sponges.

I just played my first game with my rebooted Iron Hands the other day. Must say, I was pretty impressed with my primaris marines (5 aggressors, 3 squads of 5 intercessors, 1 primaris lieutenant, 1 primaris captain). When it came to capturing and holding midfield objectives, they were durable enough to do the job--even against a strong Astra Militarum list.

 

I fielded a Sicaran Venator, lascannon Mortis Dread, Fire Raptor, and a Leviathan, all of which played a big role. I'm not sure that a full codex list could have done as well. As it is, a list built around 1) a core of primaris buffers/objective holders and 2) FW damage dealers paid dividends.

 

My main lesson learned: chapter master is an excellent stratagem. The hit rerolls amplified the killing power of my Sicaran and Mortis Dread substantially, resulting in the deaths of 4 Leman Russes--one of whom was Pask--and 2 Basilisks.

I'd definitely like to revisit this if there are other Iron Hands players out there. I currently have an all Primaris Sons of Medusa and have been struggling in games with them. Currently thinking about adding aggressors and a repulsor to possibly help them out.

I think that primaris marines make better use of our chapter tactic since they have multiple wounds.  However, I know with my primaris dark angels that really only my hellblasters and plasma inceptors are really the only big threats in the army and really end up carrying the rest of the army.  Also, I include scouts in my primaris lists, since marines have to come from somewhere and the missile launcher/heavy bolter stratagems are pretty much some of the only good ones that marines have.

 

That being said, a storm of fire warlord and a lieutenant tagging along with some bolter aggressors or maybe even a dakka repulsor or two could be interesting.  Maybe even upgrade to chapter master for better re rolls?

Im upgrading my Iron Hands to primaris now, with the start of it tonight.

 

Actually, one can say they are Sons of Medusa painted as Iron Hands, since i want vaylund cal.

 

A trio of intercessor squads backed up by 2 contemptors and a leviathan. Aggressors and hellblasters will be included as well.

 

All this plus crossed fingers for some Iron Hands love in coming campaign-book.
