Armor of the White Scars During the Heresy.

Hey mates. More of a fluff question but it is one that has been bugging me for a bit and I was wonder if you Veteran Scars players had a better idea. Began reading the HH Books and I'm at one of the White Scars novels and I was just wondering what type of Armor they preferred or utilized for their Infantry forces. If I go WS, I plan to utilize the MK IV Outrider Bikes with the upgrade kits but Im not sure what route to go with the infantry models.

They roamed far from supply lines, and so it follows that they would have been using older patterns of armour for longer than many other Legions: Mark II seems likely to be the most commonly used pattern as a result (and is what FW chose to use as the basis for their helmet & torso upgrade sets).

Book 6: Retribution, says this about the White Scars Mark II Legionary artwork:

Legionary Khasar's battle plate is typical of that worn by the White Scars, being clearly derived from a suit of Mark II 'Crusade' armour, the helm and chest plate substantially modified by Legion Techmarine armourers. The Legion frequently served as far-ranging pathfinders ahead of the Expeditionary fleets of the Great Crusade, and was therefore separated from reliable lines of supply for extended periods. Where most Legions were supplied en masse with new marks of armour, weapons and war machines, the White
Scars often retained items they were issued at the outset of a campaign, repairing equipment when damaged, adapting it to their needs and adorning it with elements unique to the culture of their home world of Chogoris

In Scars though, there is one scene where Keshig not in Terminator armour are mentioned as wearing Mark III.

So I'd probably go Mark II if the price of resin is no obstacle.

Mk II is the canon answer, sources like book 6, but also the novels like 'Scars' suggest so. Yet I think you are safe to use Mk IV for the WS were also known for modifications on their armour (aerodynamics for Javelins and Jetbikes?), but one could even argue for Mk V for the modification reason, even if meant for traitor legions. I have not seen bike-specific Mk II anyway.

Mark II seems to have predominated but it's worth remembering that their last big campaign as a legion before the heresy was Ullanor. It was a prestigious campaign, run by Horus and the Emperor. All the legions involved would have received high-quality resupplies/material from the segmentum solar, like fresh suits of mark IV armour. Some suits probably found their way to the WS, even with the logistical difficulties mentioned in Brotherhood of the Storm, and even if they were typically conservative with using new wargear. You can't go through a meatgrinder like Ullanor without some resupply.

Has Ullanor ever been described in battle scenes in the Crusade era?
