Where’s Luthor

Bell of Lost Souls has leaked the final passage in the codex and their big reveal is that the Lion is fully healed (like he has been since 6th). But they missed the actual big reveal in the same passage.

Apparently Luthor is no longer on the rock.

‘Yet Luthor is gone now, escaped by unknown means to unclear ends’

Well that is interesting. And it’s not a terrible development, in my opinion, although Azrael might have to explain a few things to a very small group.

I’d kinda prefer Luther doesn’t pop up and stays missing but I’m also in the no loyalist Primarchs camp.

Can definitely see him being released alongside the Lion and a new plastic Azrael at some point. (Cue BOLS rumour in 3......2.....1.....)

I'm struggling to remember now, but didn't the Changeling infiltrate the Rock during the events of the Wulfen / Fenris storyline at the end of 7th Edition? I'll dig out the books in a bit, but I'm fairly sure he took the form of one of the Masters or Chaplains and managed to get into the lowest levels of the Rock.

Need to get my hand on the Codex if they're doing shenanigans like this...

+++ EDIT +++

Yep, it's in the Wrath of Magnus book, the Changeling manages to get into the lowest depths of the Rock and impersonated Azrael as he comes to Luther's cell (referred to as 'The Nameless One'). The Changeling manages to open the cell door using Azrael's sword and let's Luther go.

Hmm. Well, the Lion was in a coma from the final battle on Caliban with Luthor- depending on the codex he was either mortally wounded or just wounded, and then was in a healing coma guarded by the Watchers in the Dark.

Luthor being out is an interesting thing. He is insane, tormented by what he did to the Lion, for most of the time he was let out of stasis to be questioned by the Grand Master(s). Usually raving about how the Lion will forgive him, but when lucid he was able to sense the Fallen and knew things about their plans due to his Chaos-tainted mind.

With Cypher escaping Terra from under Gulliman's nose, and Luthor being freed by the Changeling, the possibility of the two meeting up is very likely. Depending on who this Cypher is, it may lead to them joining forces and possibly clearing Luthor's mind of the madness. That would be a very interesting turn of events- having a sane Luthor gathering up the Fallen with Cypher at his side, for an unknown reason. Sounds like a reason for the Lion to come back, to put his house in order.

The Lion is fully healed? Guilliman was the injured one. The Lion was just in coma/slumber.

And Luther escaped? How do you escape stasis? Did Gav Thorpe wrote the fluff from our Codex?

Didnt he and Luther beat the living crap out of each other? Thats how I remember it anyway.

Yep. Lion’s always been described as “wounds long healed”.

I think in the old stuff it was - Lion beats Luther but can’t/won’t land killing blow, Luther psychic attacks Lion, Lion goes into coma, Luther realises what he’s done and goes nuts. That old chestnut.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the fluff moves away from that, it is pretty cliche.

Going to throw it out there that it was the Lion in the stasis cell and Luther is the one stowed away in a coma by the Watchers. The Lion pretending for 10,000 years. :teehee:

Still not quite understanding what it's actually going to take to get the lion to decide it's about time to come play. The galaxy is asunder and Luther is out and cypher actually made it to Terra, is he waiting for Curze to magically grow his head back or?

Well Curze's death was never confirmed........

Well, seeing how everyone jumps on the loyalty is it's own reward, allow me to use death is nothing compared to vindication, zso sahaal had to get Curzes crown from somewhere and Talos goes after the still alive assassin after the assassination. Curze is dead. May he be recovered by some miracle, killed and rest in peace.

But then there's still my ridiculous theory Curze replaced himself with a clone and he and Sevatar skipped off into the sunset to sip margaritas forever more. So his return could rouse the lion.

Ahh, the old clone bait and switch trick lol

But seriously, what will it take the Lion to awake? The current events are pretty dier.

Although, some psykers who have peered into the warp sense the coming of something terrible beyond reckoning (this was in one of the recent books and I can't remember which one lol).

The Lion is supposed to wake up during the “final battle for humanity”. We skipped that bit with 8th and Primaris are saving people left, right and centre sooooo......not sure what will bring him out to play.

Luther seems to be the obvious catalyst.

Personally, I think the Watchers may have released Luther. For some mysterious reason or another, since they are the ones with complete control over the dungeons in their own psychic way. (Either them or Cypher, him being as OTT as he is xD)

Nope. He reaches the deep cells using the sword. But the Watchers in the Dark drive him away before he can reach Luther :)

Edit: Actually. It's not clear. Since p23 of Wrath of Magnus implies he frees Luther. Yet on p29 he is stopped by the Watchers (who would step in before he would get to Luther, realistically).

Oh well. Either way. Luther's gone. Popcorn time

So:

Luther is Cypher; due to circular time travel shenanigans with the rift he existed both in real time as Cypher running around doing stuff to set up the big break in time, and going through it he ended up getting captured to be kept as a prisoner in the Rock.

That's why he could never be captured, he already was.

Or it's just GeeDub mucking with us for the lols...

It occurs to me. If Luther went back in time, we don't know that he wont be back forward in time later. If Luther's rantings about forgiveness are to believed.
So, we don't know if the 'time rift" is needed at all by the watchers. They have a connection with Caliban and maybe that's all they need to put Luther back on old Caliban. Some crazy oll' Dr. Who stuff, why not. Luther is sent way back and starts the knightly orders long before the Lion would ever be around.
I like this idea. Much later, Luther returns to aid the lion at some key moment.
However, From Caliban's distant past Luther has been sending Cypher off on his missions. Got to have some kind of twist to this story.

Prediction: at some point in the future things will be extremely dire for the First and they will be rescued by a force led by Luther and Cypher, along with a great number of the loyal fallen they have gathered into an army.

Alternately, Luther will show up leading a giant chaos force, and this will be enough to wake The Lion.
