Stormravens and load outs

Hello All,

With the recent Codex drop we finally get the Stormraven.

How are people going to use them? With Dreads losing their drop pods, a Venerable Dread on the back is a given.

But what else? I was considering Terminators but after further consideration wondered if a Plasma pistol/ power sword Veteran squad accompanied by Int Chaplain and Company Master (Maybe Asmodai and Azrael) would be good.

Thoughts?

So, having played the Stormraven quite extensively, you have so many options possible, but it's a bit of a glass cannon.

The best way to look at it is : How do you picture it affecting your games ?

You can use the Stormraven as an insertion tool, as an AT gunboat, as an AI gunboat, as a versatile weapons platform. You can even use it as a distraction. It's an expensive distraction for sure, but it is so threatening that you can have several good rounds of shooting with other armour.

In a nutshell, there is no optimum way to use it. How do you want to use it is what is key ;)

It is going to attract A LOT of flakk though, and given the big points investment and decent but not remarkable survivability, a few thoughts need to be given to make sure you are not disappoint by what it brings :)

Im tempted of usong one to drop 5 veterans with power/chain swords, combat shields and plasma pistols, with an Interrogator-Chaplain, maybe a Command Squad, right into the action.

Clear rhe way, drop down, super stratagem plasma them, charge, chop chop chop, plasma again, and carve my way through the enemy

Thanks for this insight! I actually just ordered a Stormraven so I have a couple of questions.

1) What is the best loadout for taking out enemy armor? In my gaming circle I am fighting anything from Leman Russes to a Spartan Assault Tank. I decked out the Stormraven in a sample list I built with the las-cannon, multi meltas, stormstrike and hurricane bolters for maximum tank busting ability, plus a way to deal with chaff. But seeing as how they can be cut down relatively easy, I almost worry that it is a massive point sink that I could be using on other units. I envisioned taking the Stormraven with either one or two Dark Talons for a fast moving, hard hitting, armor and infantry busting strike force that can drop elite deadly units where I want them, which I feel is pretty fluffy for the DA. Is there a more effective build for the Stormraven in dealing with tanks, or is my build pretty much the way to go if I want to use it that way?

2) In your experiences, where has the Stormraven performed well and where has it fallen short? I know that all of this is dependent upon the meta of your gaming group, but seeing as how I have zero experience with the Stormraven any insight is appreciated.

Regardless I am super stoked that the DA finally have access to it. I don't think that it is the answer to all our problems, but I do think it can finally give us some interesting strategic options that we didn't have before.
