Iron Circle in 8th

Hi all,

I've been plugging away at a conversion between the Age of Darkness rules and 8th. I've appreciate any thoughts and playtesting on the Iron Circle:

For reference, we don't usually use points/power levels, but the reference is there (15 power for the basic unit) if you want to use them for playtesting.

Do Iron Circle automata require a "minder," like servitors? Or will they suffer "mindlock" in the minder's absence, the way servitors do when a Techmarine is too far away?

Yes, they are equipped with a cyberntica cortex. They don't really "mindlock" in the absence of a cortex controller; however, they must target (with ranged and melee attacks) the closest enemy unit if they're within 12". If there are none within 12", they may act normally (but still may not perform sweeping advances and run moves in the persistent absence of a cortex controller).

I haven't any thoughts on how exactly to translate those rules to 8th, but it wouldn't be that hard.

I would also like to note that Olympia pattern bolt-cannons have pinning in it's 7th edition incarnation, it would be neat to simulate that somehow (again I'm not sure how that would translate to 8th, I'm not sure what really counts as "pinning" in 8th).

Thanks for the feedback, all; much appreciated. :smile.:

Across this project, I've tried to follow the spirit of 8th in streamlining things as far as possible – so I have perhaps erred on the side of over-simplification.

  • The stats are based largely on the Kastelan, the nearest equivalent I could find in 8th. I compared the Kastelan to the (7th ed,) Castellax, then tried to apply a similar set of principles to the Domitar-Ferrum.
    • WS, S and LD of the Domitar-Ferrum are higher than the Castellax in 7th; hence the bump in S and WS between the Kastelan and the Domitar-Ferrum in 8th.
  • The lack of Pinning's is an example of this – since it's gone from other equivalents, and because I didn't feel it was particularly iconic or important to the unit's role, I left it out.
  • I've tried to be as consistent as possible with existing rules. I like the idea of some rules to indicate that they're a robot, but the Kastelan doesn't seem to have anything like that... :/
