On Angels wings

Tides of Orks charged in from all directions. On the ground, the remaining Guardsmen were giving them heavy resistance, but they would be overrun soon. Dug in positons pounded the mob of Orks with autocannon and heavy bolter fire while trenches spewed lasgun shots. Charging over their fallen comrades, the Orks inched their way towards their foes - every one that fell had a hundred more behind him eager to take his place at the head of their assault.

As the Guardsmen prepared to meet the Emperor and take as many of the foul xenos with them as they possibly could, the ground began to shake. It was barely noticeable at first - the tremors mixed in with the thumping of thousands of Ork boots on the ground as they charged. Soon even the Orks noticed and seemed to slow into a confused, disorganized flock. Guardsmen began to scan the horizon between shots, sure they would see one of the ramshackle Stompas that had lay siege to the more heavily fortified Imperial positions during the initial greenskin invasion. They had no ordinance heavy enough to deal with a monstrosity of that nature.

A dark shape rose from the horizon, trampling over the golden fields of the agri-world. Each titanic footstep struck fear into the hearts of Guardsmen and Orks alike - neither side was sure of what was to come. As the colossal shadow approached, it slowed. Guardsmen and their officers ducked down into their foxholes, trenches, and positions to protect themselves from the bombardment they expected to follow shortly. The Emperor would be greeting them any moment now.

Cannon fire erupted from the gargantuan newcomer, but no shells struck the Imperial holdout. A curious Guardsmen poked his head above the sandbags where he lay, only to see the dirt explode again and again as fire ripped through the greenskins. Tell-tale blasts of loose ground and blood danced back and forth across Ork lines, slaughtering hundreds of the horrid creatures. Abruptly the hail of death ceased and the tremors began again. The unknown savior closed in on their position once more.

Angeleke felt every sensation her adamantium steed felt as it lumbered towards the distant firefight. The crumbling dirt beneath her heels and wind on her skin meant freedom. Her view of the destruction was even clearer through the optic sensors of the towering knight. The woman smiled as each thunderous step brought her closer to what remained of the enemy.

Frantic Orks fired blindly at the mechanical savior as they fled, bullets ricocheting off the broad armored shoulders and rockets stopped dead by it's void shield. As Angeleke pursued the retreating greenskin mob, her gatling cannon stuttered to life once more. Shells cleaved through the Ork lines again, leaving a path of fallen greenskins and craters in the dirt through the retreating hostiles.

Passing the Imperial position as she charged, Angeleke turned and raised her chainsword in triumph as the Guardsmen cheered her on. A flurry of lasgun beams and pounding autocannon shots joined in with her firepower, bringing more panic and fear to the guideless horde.

As she passed far beyond eyesight of the relieved Imperial soldiers, Angeleke noticed the Orks were slowing in their retreat. Some would even stop and defiantly shout, firing wildly in vain at their pursuer. Of course, they would be trampled underfoot, but the wise woman could tell she was nearing a greater threat that was giving the Orks courage once again. Thousands of other Orks could be waiting, or perhaps they had their own heavy weaponry en route to face her even now.

Soon enough Angeleke spotted her challenger. Swathes of Greenskins turned and charged towards her, inspired by the presence of their own mechanized salvation. The rickety Stompa belched smoke as it waddled over the hilltop, waving it's arms to taunt and challenge the Knight. Raising her chainsword once more, she accepted the provocation and barreled through the green tide towards her foe.

Orks were trampled by the hundreds under the colossal foofalls of the two monumental contenders. With every ounce of strength her faithful mechanized companion could muster, Angeleke leapt forwards with grace unexpected from the imposing war machine, bringing her chainsword's teeth into contact with the ramshackle opponent's claw. Quickly recovering from the block, the knight expertly spun her torso around to free herself from the Stompa's grasp before the claw could properly grip the sword. The Orks at the helm of their cobbled-together monstrosity could not have forseen the seasoned knight's next action - using the force and speed of her rotation, Angeleke brought the barrels of her gatling cannon into contact with the Stompa's head. The blow struck with the force of a battering ram and momentarily knocked the Ork contraption reeling as it lost its already unsteady balance. Taking advantage of the confusion, Angeleke struck once more at the clanking horror, the teeth of her chainsword finding their mark and digging into the metal flesh of her opponent.

The knight carved a large chunk out of the ramshackle behemoth's belly, exposing several fighting compartments and shearing off several forward weapons. Black smoke billowed from the contraption's wound as it struggled to find proper footing. Swinging its claw in an attempt to counterattack Angeleke's offensive, the greenskin war engine managed to seize the knight's carapace mounted rocket launcher - the colossal digits of the Stompa's power claw dug into the casing and ripped the weapon from it's mounting.

Gritting her teeth, as blood ran from her nostrils and ears feeling immense pressure, her machine was taking serious damage. Angeleke once again struck as the Stompa mockingly tossed its trophy into the crowd of cheering and shouting Orks. The greenskin's victory was short lived, with a sly grin took the opportunity to plunge her sword deep into the open wound of her enemy, tearing into the boiler. Internal explosions rocked throughout the war engine, armor flying loose and flames erupting from every hole in the dying monstrosity. Orks on the ground howled with rage and peppered the victorious knight with groundfire in vain. Withdrawing her blade, Angeleke swung with immense strength, decapitating the towering mechanized beast as it collapsed backwards into the sea of green surrounding it.

Taking a moment to gather herself after the duel, Angeleke took several deep breaths as her heart beat out of her chest. The pain she felt from her damaged knight was great, but she was no stranger to this discomfort. After regaining her composure, the woman taunted the raging Orks. Placing her metal foot over the corpse of the fallen engine, she opened fire into the Orks with her heavy stubber and gatling cannon, demoralizing them further. If their own titanic champion could not fell the knight, what chance did they have?

As the greenskins clambered over top of one another to escape Angeleke's fury, the woman thought of pursuing them further. No. She had made her mark for today. Her knight was too heavily damaged to risk another confrontation with an Ork war machine. As the sea of green turned into a mere stream across the hills and fields out of sight, Angeleke began to trudge slowly back towards the Imperial position she had left behind. Activating her beacon for retrieval, the woman allowed herself a minute to relax. Though she didn't emerge unscathed, today's victory was surely cause for celebration.
