Taurox primes still getting used?

Good that you started a thread, because yesterday someone had the idea in another thread that maybe Scions are the new go to for mechanised guard.

To cite myself:

If the -1 to hit thing keeps going, we may just see the rise of FRFSRF mechanized Scion squads :D

Actually the more I think about it the more I love it :D compare just the Taurox Prime versus the Gryphonne Pattern Chimera, for +17pts you get:

- 20 S4 and 8 S4 -1 shots (also hitting on 3s if not moved) vs

- 9 S5 -1 shots

I know which one I like more :p

Edit: that's not even factoring in possible extra shots from the stormtrooper doctrine.

But your Scion Squad is more then two times more expensive... I have to run some numbers and compare those to guardsman.

So maybe that's the way to go, I'll have to test it.

@micahwc

Well there are several reasons that you can't or just don't want to deepstrike:

- you can't deepstrike more then half of your forces

- no deepstrike in FRFSRF or melta range

- maybe you just don't want to, because you are playing against a smart opponent with lots of chaff, so he can deny you dropping in into good positions

Taurox Primes were always just empty gunboats, a way to bring their Gatling cannon on the field. Now, with the Grinding Advance rule to Russes and their increase in price, they are less than useful. Transports in general are extremely underwhelming with the change to when Embark/Disembark occurs, and the ability to hold in deepstrike reserve trumps being inside a tin box. Additionally, the Taurox looks like crap, even with wheel mods or a good paintjob, the overall model looks absolutely horrible.

The reason to take Taurox Primes is you want gatlings and volley guns on a fast moving vehicle but don't want to give up your Storm trooper Doctrine. For pure guard it's less useful now but for Scion detachments it still has a place. Also helps with getting FRFSRF teams into a good position before opening up.

I long since gave up on the missile/autocannon combo since it consistently does very little for me.

Scion only lists are dead, competitively. Casualties of the war on Imperial soup, along with commissars and conscripts. I expect this heavy handed approach to be rescinded in next year's chapter approved, but that is a full year away... plenty of time to paint, at least.

March actually. GW said the new FAQ schedule will be to release a 'clarification' FAW 2 weeks after release then be on rotation of 'balance' FAQs starting with March, then again in September

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought about some good transport for my inquisition.

Is taurox prime valid option? I thought about inquisitor, 2-3 acolytes And Maby small squad of scions?

Is This good idea or there is better transport option for inquisition, If not What is optimal loadout for taurox prime?
