Sylvaneth counts as Necrons

Hey guys I have a Sylvaneth army I use as counts as Necrons that my friends are ok with. I am trying to push them to 2k points. I was using my Treelord Ancient as a Transcendant C'taan but I am really underwhelmed by that performance (for such high points too!). I think there is a forgeworld large monster unit I could use it as... but I am confused as to which one is optimal? Maybe as that giant centipede thing, I forget the name.

The rest of my list is

Overlord with warscythe

3x Cryptec

60 flayed ones

Gauss Pylon

Deep striking melee focused list (flayed ones bubble wrapping the Pylon when they all deep strike in)

HELP!

The Necrons are in kind of a bad state right now. Forge World tends to be better as they use the "better rules with our models" kind of style I feel. That doesn't mean that they are bad. Just that some people tend to not want to play against them.

I honestly think the Necrons themselves are not optimal and will be a struggle regardless of your list until your codex drops. If I had more experience with Necrons I would add more. But I would check out as many Necron batreps online and see what is working and against what units. Then build a list off that knowledge.

Necrons right now are overpriced, pretty much across the board. They aren't bad, though, in my opinion. Everything I've used works pretty well, it all just costs too much. Forge World has some decent options.

The best options I've found are clumping up huge warrior units around ghost arks, preferably with crypteks and/or overlords. I'm personally fond of the catacomb command barge, but that might be because of how much I love the model as much as it's performance (which has been good for me). It is very hard to take down!

Wraiths are probably our most efficient unit in a vacuum. They're quite tough, pretty killy and plenty quick. Even when mine have been caught out in the open they've held up pretty well.

One of the units I was thinking of was Canoptek Tomb Stalker. Does anyone have any experience with this FW unit? It seems to be popular,  but should I run 1-3?

I am getting hit by 100% alpha strike armies, so I was planning on null deploying. I forget with this edition can I reserve my entire army, or does some need to be on the board?

Basically LoS deploy Overlord (with redeploy relic and res orb) + cryptek(s) + 1 blob of flayed ones hiding in a corner. Turn 1 happens, redeploy overlord + flayed ones by enemy units then deep strike 2 blobs of 20 flayed ones attempting a long charge, also deep strike my gauss pylon, and 1-3 Canoptek Tomb Stalkers. Obviously I need to fiddle with the points, but I think I could make this work. If I can arrange them all within 6" of the pylon they all have a 5+ invuln against overwatch or just in case they fail their long charges.

Null deploy is not an option. At least 50% of your army has to be on the board. I have no experience with any of our FW stuff, but the stalker looks nice. I probably won't get one until February or later, though, so I can't really speak to it.

There are some problems I see with your plan. First, you'll get creamed for objectives on most games. Second, I doubt you'll see much success from deep striking that many units clustered together and hoping to get them all in combat. I believe a 9" charge is something like a 26% chance of getting in, made worse by the fact you will be deploying around the pylon instead of in ideal positions (so less likely to be exactly 9" for everyone).

I think you're better off diversifying your troops. This one will work great if the dice are always on your side, but they won't be. Could be fun for a few games, though, so I'm not saying don't ever trying it or anything, but I don't think it would do well very often if your opponents are competitive.

Yeah I think you are right, fortunately Gauss Pylon has a massive base size so I can really spread them around about 18-24 inches.

If I deploy overlord, 2 scarabs, crypteks and one blob of flayed ones I'll be able to DS the rest then. I definitely hear you on the failed charges turn 1 losing me games. I am just wondering if the 5++ plus reanimation protocols (with rerolls from res orb) will keep me alive to get full charges off on turn 2.

My goal here is just to try to make CC oriented Necrons work because I have the models and I think that would be cool. It definitely would not work against many other types of armies, but this is really just a side project.

In that case I do think it could be a fun side project. The reanimation protocols are potent, but focus fire can burn them down pretty quick. Maybe having so many jumping in at once might keep opponents from focus fitting appropriately. I definitely think adding some wraiths ( or a suitable proxy) would help you out, though!
