Welcome to the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series!

Following the release of the 8th edition Codex, there is no better time to discuss all the unique units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you play Seth?

Would you maximise this aura buffs (Chapter Master and Lord of Slaughter)? If so, who would you run him with?
It's quite obvious he needs to be in combat. Delivery method? Balance on army build?
What about his 6" Heroic Intervention? Anything there to build around?
What buffs and Stratagems would you give him?

Over to you.

He's a great combat monster but the main disadvantage is that he lock you out of all other BA special characters & relics (bar the crappy sword), unless you want to play some detachment shenanigans (which can work).

That said, if you want to play Flesh Tearers, he'll buff those units very cost-effectively until the cows come home.

6" Heroic intervention is nice, but too defensive for such a slaughterer.

I've to say tho since all our chapter relics are merely decent-good and not one of them a must-have, it hurts not THAT much to take a great special character instead. If we had some gamebreaking relics it would hurt a lot more but this way it's merely a trade-off imo.

Put Gabriel Seth in combat with a DC Dreadnought with Blood Talons.  If you end up destroying the enemy unit (very likely with those 2), It is a good bet the DC Dread (with Insatiable) can consolidate into another unit and still benefit from Whirlwind of Gore.

Seth is another finesse tool for BA. You want to try and proc his "6+ fight again" aura as much as possible, so it means wiping out the enemy and then consolidating into another. The Chapter Master level "re-roll all failed hits" is a bargain at his cost too.

As olcottr has said a DC dread is great for this with his 6" consolidate.

I think he can work really well as either a gun-line buffer; get as many units within 6" to benefit from re-rolls and let him use that 6" HI to smack down any fools that dare charge you.

OR put him leading the charge of a potentially mechanised assault (leveraging his ability to fit inside a transport).

A third, combined approach to the above would be placing him in a particularly shooty drop-pod full of Sternguard/ Company vets and the like, using his aura to buff the drop onslaught and then helping them out of they get charged.

Seth is just awesome. Two ways I used him

1- in a rhino with company vets (usually one hammer). This is pretty deadly and multiple small vet squad have more chances to get the whirlwind. However kinda cheesy a little with all those 2 men squads.

2- walking in the middle of an infantry blob. This is a pretty normal way of using a chapter master.

I have a model but have never been tempted to use him. As most of our cool codex stuff is jump pack specific he takes a bit of a smashing.

That said, theres nothing quite so nice as seeing a full FT army with him at its head.

I can see him in the middle of footslog DC and Assault termys leaping out of land raiders making use of the archangels and overcharged engine strats.

Or dropping him into the mix out of a stormraven. Deff need to make use of all the delivery systems we have to synergise with him.

If ur feeling hot on the dice his fight again rule right after the fight again strat (the wording would seem to suggest that order) would make him disgusting

I've been working an idea in my head because I'm a total treadhead but how would you guys use Seth in a heavily mechanized army I am thinking at least one land raider and a siccaran tank but I'm struggling to find a spot for him

Stood inbetween the vehicles so that they benefit from the re-rolls while you roll up the table ;)

Sorry to necro this thread but how about Seth with Boltstorm Aggressors? A big blob of those walking up the field would be quite impressive with full rerolls to-Hit. If the enemy charges, full rerolls is quite handy on Overwatch, Seth can then HI into combat and the full rerolls will mitigate the Agressors' -1 to-Hit in melee.

Other firepower units like Hellblasters and Repulsors will benefit too. In fact it is quite funny just how well Seth benefits Primaris units given his in-Universe dislike for them. :smile.:

I'd say it's way more likely for Aggressors to get shot to death instead of getting charged. T5 W2 Sv3+ is not the world and charging anything with that many shots is usually not the best idea in the first place. ^^

sfPanzer makes a good point. But, Seth does indeed support Aggressors really well, much like how well Guilliman buffs them.  Deploy aggressively create target saturation which we as blood angels is an easy task. Force your opponents hand.

Tis the Angels of Blood way.
