HH 7th v 8th ban?

Soooo... As some frater feel the need to reopen old wounds at the drop of a heresy hat, is it worth just instituting a blanket ban on comparing the two systems? Lord knows its gotten a large number of posters irrational and there are a fair few on either side just baiting things now, (Like, for example a few in the FW Xmas party thread) . As its just leading to more and more derailments and thread locks is a ban sensible? Or perhaps just having a specified topic people can go into when they are feeling the attempt to be constructive?

I dunno, it just seems that perhaps something should be done. I know its giving me stress i really dont need on top of real life mayhem right now :D

A prohibition would be counter-productive and/or inconsequential (beyond what is already happening).

An outright prohibition would definitely be counter to our mission as a site as constructive comparison of the two editions and discussion of possibilities has a place here.

A "prohibition" would be nothing more than an explicit statement to the effect that non-constructive posts aren't allowed; but that is already covered under our forum rules. So all we would be doing is reiterating our forum rules. Pointless gripes about the issue are already eligible for editing (where other portions of a post are suitable) or removing (where the entire post is pointless griping). If a member repeatedly posts such pointless gripes, or if a gripe is otherwise in violation of our extant forum rules (e.g., profanity, off topic), the mods may, at their discretion, issue official warnings.

If you see posts that you perceive as non-constructive or in violation of the forum rules, you can use the REPORT function to bring them to the attention of the moderators. Another option available to you is to use the IGNORE function for those members whose posts you perceive as either worthless or negative (though you'll miss anything/everything they post, including "good" posts, so use the IGNORE function sparingly).
