Ghostkeel Loadouts

I am starting up a Tau army in 2018 and I am interested in including a Ghostkeel but I'm on the fence about what loadout to give it. Right now there are 2 possibilities I am considering.

1) Ghostkeel w. 2 stealth drones - Cyclic Ion Raker, 2x Burst Cannons, Advanced Targeting, Target Lock

2) Ghostkeel w. 2 stealth drones - Fusion Collider, 2x fusion, Shield Generator, Target Lock

I think option 2 fits with most of the lists I have played around with as they are a little lacking in anti-tank but its also ~50 points more expensive. I'm also a little concerned by the difference in the # of shots between the two options.

I may end up magnetizing but, in general, I'm not a huge fan of doing that.

Thoughts? What loadouts have other people had success with?

I used to play him with CIR+2xBC+ATS and Target Lock.

I tested a bunch of other combinations as well (including your second option) but none were as reliable and efficient as that one.

The fact that Commanders can do the anti-tank so much better and the additional 6" range on the CIR in case you want to play more carefully just sets the CIR loadout in stone for me. Sometimes I switchout the 2xBC with 2xFlamer to scare enemy melee and chaff away but it barely makes a difference.

However with the Chapter Approved Stratagem for easy 1d3+1 Markerlights I'm thinking about replacing the Target Lock with a Shield Generator on the CIR loadout. I haven't tested that one yet tho.

You are spot on the two Ghostkeels I usually play:

Except for the fusion one, I play that with the defense matrix. With 3 to 5 fusion blaster shots I usually keep him close to vehicles / characters and they don't really want to charge him... And he demolishes them really nice.

I personally run CIR + FBs + Target Lock + ATS. It's a more generalist option that I generally send after harder targets, loitering at >18" from serious threats. It's not the best loadout, but it's the one I had left over from 7th. :P

I'm not sure BCs would really bring the pain in an appreciable way for me.

They don't....but at least they are cheap and benefit from ATS more than Fusion Blaster. :P

But yeah I tried the CIR + FB loadout as well thanks to 7th edition but it just felt wrong to take ATS when you also paid points for FB so I eventually switched to Flamer as backup weapons in case I have to be close to the enemy for some reason.

-5 AP is a hilarious thing to say to an opponent. That look of utter despair when they realise there is no hope of an Armour Save roll is delicious. :P

Had a giggle at your signature btw. Die Deutsche Volk sind ein bisschen direkte. ;)
