Charron's Forge - WIP Star Wardens Space Marine Chapter

Yeah, been kind of meaning to do this for a while now.

Hey, InAction here. I have had a thread up in the Liber Astartes section on my original Marine chapter, the Star Wardens. I've been working on-and-off throughout the past year on making them actual miniatures, and admittedly haven't done the best job of documenting my progress. Until now that is.

So here's where I'll be featuring the work I've done thus far on my minis, as well as future additions. And maybe every now and then I'll add in a little bit of in-universe writing on certain subjects when the mood strikes me.

Here's some in-progress pics I took of a tactical squad that I had primarily been working on.

And a kind of timeline image from the first snap-fit marine I painted to test the scheme and the permutations I've gone through to a completed paint job.

For inspiration, it may help to watch Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle. The members of the Statesman (the titular Kingsman's American allies) have some cool cowboy themed equipment, like double-barreled revolvers (counts as an Ingram pattern bolter with "Pistol 2") and an electrified lasso that can cut through metal like a hot knife through butter (counts as a neural whip with "AP -2").

@Bjorn Firewalker: Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into what kind of stuff I can work with for when I start tackling major character models.

Anyways, got that first tactical squad (mostly) done.

After this last squad, I'm not entirely satisfied with how things like the bases came out. Not sure if the sand material I had been using replicates the kind of desert environment I was looking to go for. Painting over and applying the wash kind of made it much darker than I had intended - kind of came out looking more like dirt or mud.

Anyone have any idea of what I'm trying to go for or pointers for how I can make it work with what I've been using? Those texture paints that Citadel has been using, would those be something worth looking into?

Also, if anyone's got any tips for the likes of painting like squad markings or chapter icons, I'd appreciate that as well. Or if there's a means of designing and printing your own transfers, 'cause I know I've got something of an uphill battle with my choice of symbol.

Sorry for double-post; working on assembling a new marine sergeant with combi-bolter. Thought of going first with giving him a power fist, but for a bit of flavor, I also was considering leaving him his standard melee weapon and modeling him with a bolt pistol in the opposite hand. Which option should I ought to go with?

I've gotten around now to assembling my next sergeant. Given him a little cloth tabard hanging off from his belt. I've also gotten some third-party bits from Kromlech including bare chainswords. With him going guns akimbo, I'll be placing the sword at his feet off the back of his belt.

In that time I also got a start on the figures for two more marines...

And have kitted them out in some more unique positions with arms and equipment.

I've already had a special-weapons guy around from when I had begun painting my first test group - gonna give him a once-over to touch up some areas before moving on to give him a shade wash and then highlights.

Done a little bit more work - gave my weapon specialist marine some 2nd company colors and a head. (Thus far I think it's one of the better ones I've painted.
