Any ideas when the Siege of Terra novel(s) is published?

Recommended Posts

Well, assuming the two-month schedule resumes in May, and assuming Wolfsbane and Slaves to the Darkness are the only pre-siege novels left, we'd probably be looking at:

May: Wolfsbane

July: Anthology

September: Slaves to the Darkness

November: Anthology

Maybe more like January, but I suppose it's possible.

I think we will see the first Siege novel before the end of the year, yes. Possibly two.

Remember that at the BL Weekender the next releases were confirmed to be Burden of Loyalty-Wolfsbane-Slaves to Darkness so there is no anthology in between. There may be one after Slaves of Darkness but since that presumably releases in June there are still two slots we don't know about ( 3 actually, because we're not sure there will be an antholog following "Slaves").

I think (early) next year is most likely, though I wouldn't completely rule out the end of this year to at least begin it. We still have Wolfsbane and Slaves to Darkness, at least 2 anthologies-worth of shorts/novellas, and although it's not been officially announced, Laurie Goulding has said there will be a doom of the Death Guard novel.

I reckon that's enough to fill 2018 (and maybe more if the schedule slows), but I also can't forsee much beyond that, especially given how final the stories in 2017's advent felt.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a Christmas premiere of the opening novel, even if it would be numerically later, after an introduction anthology of advent shorts and whatever else follows this year. They did it with Pharos and War Without End, e-premiere and such, so they could do the same here, double-dip on a hyped-up event by having an e-premiere and print later, and boost their christmas sales for the entire series.

As many have said, it's likely to be next year, I wouldn't be surprised though if this years Christmas Day ebook exclusive early release was Book 1 of the siege... given that last years Heresy Advent shorts all pretty much were set literally moments before the siege I'd day we're tantalisingly close!

Outside of Beta-Garmon (which i think we've had confirmation won't be covered as part of the main series) there's nothing left to cover so following Wolfsbane & Slaves to the Darkness that's pretty much it, siege time! Count me excited and nervous at the same time!

Haha, your post popped up moments before i posted mine...snap! :happy.:

Depending of how many books will be set in the siege I would not be surprised if something with the set up and solar system war could come out to christmas.

BL could easy do at least two novels and multiple short stories in that setting. Maybe some christmas calendar stories?

Don’t forget. When BL people say “yeah the series is nearly finished” it usually means “ha ha. We will make sure you get more novels than you need so we can get all your monies in our pockets”

What else needs to happen before the Siege?

Here are a few thoughts

-Konrad Curze returns to his Legion and heads to Terra

-The Knight-Errants return to Earth

-Maybe Polux's group of Fists and Warriors also go to Terra?

-Horus needs to take out Jupiter, Pluto and Luna first

That all would take one book at the most

And honestly, I doubt most of that would need to be covered anyway. As Marshal Loss says, Curze may well not even be present, the Knights-Errant probably are there already (or can just be said to have been recalled), if Polux did return he probably did it with Sanguinius, and other Sol System conquests could just be put under the general Siege heading.

The only significant things that still need coverage, that I can think of (setting aside Beta-Garmon, which I believe they said wouldn't be done by BL) are Russ' hunt for Horus (Wolfsbane), Horus gathering his forces/general catch-up with the traitors (Slaves to Darkness) and the Death Guard fall.

Personally I think there is a couple of good stories setting up the siege. It would feel terrible rushed if the next book just started with "And now everybody is on terra in front of the walls".

I would like to see books for example covering:

- The early games of infiltration of spies and counter spies (not specifically AL) involving arbites, Malcadors agents, IF, custodes etc.

- The last rush for the defenders to reach Terra, breaking through enemy forces.

- The conquest of the solar system. A lot of space battles and lost grounds for the defenders. If done in a style like Know No Fear or The Crimson Fist it could be really good.

I do enjoy most books in the Heresy series so I don't mind if they do take the time to set up the end game properly.

Well, we already got a handful of shorts about the traitors reaching the Sol System recently. I expect the final pre-Siege anthology to include those and some new/upcoming stuff, maybe a novella. We already know what Malcador and the Emperor are up to, Dorn, Sanguinius and the Khan met up hours before the Siege, and the Imperial Fists are on guard putting down riots.

I'd definitely like to see the proto-Inquisitors getting together for some action, though. I mean, we've seen Yasu Nagasena plenty, but there's a lot of room for Euphrati Keeler to make a move during the Siege, seeing how she is in custody, Sindermann needs to come into his own, and we didn't see Moriana yet iirc. Garro will have to be martyred before long, possibly during the Fall of the Death Guard novel, whichever form it'll take. Malcador also still hasn't officially sealed away Titan. I'd also expect some line in an upcoming story where Sanguinius discusses his visions and Curze's fate with the Emperor, letting him know to send M'Shen since, well, after the Vengeful Spirit, neither the Emperor himself nor Malcador, current Master of Assassins, will be able to do that (seeing how one gets fried by holding the Throne and the other gets entombed on it afterwards).

We also haven't seen the Macragge's Honour making its way back from the Warp. The Graphic Novel left it's fate open, and Ruinstorm makes it a point to have Guilliman using the Samothrace instead. Marius Gage has to return at some point since we know the Macragge's Honour is around and kicking in 40k. Whether this will be addressed in the Heresy series yet, I cannot say, but it is a dangling thread that may become pretty relevant during the Scouring.

There's also the whole Gendor Skraivok thing with the Night Lords. I could see him being challenged during the Siege, resulting in the Night Lords fracturing again. Sevatar is still with the Dark Angels I believe, and seeing how Ruinstorm ends, I can't really see him making it to Terra to hold things together, or to be claimed by Malcador for a potential Grey Knight future, as has been speculated.

One thing I'd really wish for the Siege is to dial things back a little from the almost entirely Astartes-focused PoV. The short stories have added the human element back again (for example through showing snippets of conscripted terrans or having Shiban visit kin of his brother before the Siege), but I feel like we haven't had a good look at the effects on the general populace in a while. Tallarn kinda floundered with Ironclad there, but really, when was the last time we had a novel or at least novella to offset the power armour? In my opinion, it'd be very valuable to have plotlines like that over the Siege, like in the good old days of the series. Yes, the Siege is the highlight of most Legions, the climax, but it is that also because of the massive scale and devastation. I want to see characters to empathise with before the Night Lords mutilate them or the Emperor's Children do unthinkable things to their bodies.

I agree with you 100%. One of the strength of the first years of the series was that there was plenty of human characters that had their own plot lines.

Two of my favorite books Legion and Prospero Burns has almost the entire story from the perspective of normal humans. Their interaction with the astartes makes it a whole lot interesting.

  • 2 weeks later...

Was just reading Chris Wraight's twitter and his new year's message had this little nugget:

So, 2017. Thanks to all who bought books, read them, and got in touch to say so. In the grim darkness of the near present, you are the heroes. Principal location shoots for 2018 are expected to be the Plague Planet, Chogoris and Terra. More when we get it.

I think the proper reading of this is as Lords of Silence , Jaghatai Khan and Siege of Terra HH novel .
