Bit of Info from the Open Day

Wondrous news!

We'll all be on tenterhooks till we know exactly what units are included and with what options. I think I'll delay deciding on my Scyllax builds and further Forgeworld purchases till March then. Guess I'll be focusing on my Styrix and finding someone with a spare Draykavac head to make the Will Rees' Chainsawface Techpriest conversion.

It's going to be a fun year.

I realy hope the rules are good !

Not cheesy, just good.

The FW Indices are so very poor. The point increase in CA is a joke. Up to now I have the feeling play testing FW rules in 8th edition is even worse than it has been in 7th.

Anyway, I look forward to see my Thanatar throw some Plasma over the table !

To be fair, they DID lose their lead designer just prior to the launch for 8th edition, so that sort of explains/forgives some of the sloppiness.  That said, I find it pretty sad that so many folks were planning to abuse the clearly undercosted/OP models in the indexes to such an extent, then got incredibly salty when GW rightly corrected these issues in CA.  TBH, the fact that the greater playerbase didn't see this coming given GW's march toward balancing (for good or ill) shows very poor foresight indeed.

From the AdMech angle, I feel that anything new we get on the FW front will be very welcome, though I'd be extremely cautious based on previous experience about going full-bore into buying 3 Ordinatus or 10 maniples of Castellax or whatever becomes OP/undercosted when the FW AdMech units come to 40k, or we'll face the exact same disappointment and frustration that SM, IG and Eldar players (and others) are now with the CA points adjustments.

I like my vanguards with plasma on the table really, I play Metallica, so my vanguard are moving 6+D6 already, to close distance and do my shooting
my Sicarans already deep strike ...  to be honest ..... with a bit more thought I'd love to shove Kataphrons inside, bring those torsion cannons up forward and onto an objective where they dont suffer poor range to the juicy armored targets.

I don't really see myself running tech thralls just strike me as a bad middle ground between guardsmen without orders, special/heavy weapons or cost efficency and Rangers or Vangard   , Las locks being  18" Assault  1  Str  4  AP -  As Metallica, I'd rather take Rangers.

Usually best to future-proof our armies by getting a little of a lot of things and not a lot of the currently effective things.

So guys currently in the process of building my admech force (what everyone opanion on ignore cover upgrade and what bit is it?) for a mostly infantry based Skitarii Force. What kind of toys and things would Fire’s bring me?

It really depends on what your fighting, If you have the opportunity to tailor your list, against assault armies or marine players they don't tend to value cover
anywhere near as much as against say Eldar , gaurd , or even nid players.

If you are running  10 man squads rather than the minimum 5  the value of it rises exponentially, I quite like to take the ignores cover upgrade on a maxed TU sniper squad  7 bodies to protect the Arquebus guys, It only took 1 successful character snipe for many opponents to consider prioritising shots at them.

I don't typically care about it on Vanguard where the aim of the game in my army is to provide mass firepower and toughness debuffing for my more combat focused units.
However we are drifting off topic , Personally I want to fill the holes in our army , faster moving things ... transports , fliers and combot focused guys that dont die to a stiff breeze.

That translates to hoplites , Vultarax , Vorax ,and a Triarios

Yes, this x1000!!!  Honestly, unless a unit is 100% potato if I'm serious about playing an army I'll get nearly everything just for the hobby fun and put it on the table a half dozen times before I give up on it.  Troops choices are almost always a safe bet to pick up in duplicates, but everything else it's best to set up in moderation unless you have a theme in mind.

That being said, I don't want to discourage anyone from picking up FW Mechanicum units that they like in preparation for them coming to 40k; I for one am very excited to see units like the Ordinatus hitting tables soon.

So I know most of us here have essentially just posted "I'm super excited" or "I hope so and so is in FoC." But what are everyone's predictions for it? For instance, what do you think WILL make it into the book, what won't, etc.

Here's mine at least:

- We get most, if not all, battle-automata. But most of them will be like the Space Marine relic vehicles in which you can only have one of each in your army. Definitely with the bigger stuff at least.

- Vulturax and Triaros we'll get, simply because AdMech players have been all but begging for transports and flyers. Maybe not Vulturax, but definitely Triaros. Not sure on Macrocarid though.

- I'm not too sure on Tech-thralls or Myrmidons. I'd like to see them but I don't have high hopes. Same goes for Secutarii.

- The smaller automata and servitor-style machines, probably not.

- Thallax, I don't know. Here's hoping.

- Magos/Archmagos I would LOVE to have. And/or a Skitarii HQ. Betting we'll get one of each, and hopefully a named character for each as well.

- Some kind of Forge World dogma for Cyraxus, plus a warlord trait, relic, and maybe a couple new stratagems.

I'm expecting either the triaros or the macrocarid, if not both. I think secutarii should be a given since they started out in 40k, but I guess weirder things have happened. If we do get a customizable magos/archmagos I hope it can be upgraded to have some psychic powers or denial, but my hopes aren't high on that.

I also expect at least some new stuff. If Cyraxus only ports 30k stuff over to 40k it would be a let down, especially after two years of waiting.

After spending a few days trying not to get my hopes up but still having a free shipping voucher burning a hole in my pocket, I think I have decided to pick up one each of the Triaros and Macrocarid. Since I love these models, if one or both of them was not ported to 8th ed 40K, I think I could live with them as display pieces. However, one of the smartest plays for increased sales would be to give 40K AdMech players access to transports. As much as I hate to set my heart on something that is completely out of my control to bring to fruition, I'm willing to bet my money that if Fires of Cyraxus does come out, then these two are most likely to get rules.

Beyond that, if the 40K version of a Thanatar wasn't too points prohibitive, and had indirect fire on that big shoulder cannon, then I'd order one of those with the book in March.

I was looking forward to the Triaros and Macrocarid so much that the idea of new units escaped me. New weapon variants for the Onager and Ironstrider would be fantastic.

I'm looking forward to the tank with the Rad missiles. That would fit the background for my DIY Forge World quite nicely.
