Black Templar Decals

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

After a work related hobby break I finally found some time to continue expanding my crusade. Unfortunately the unevitable is about to happen: I'm running out of templar decals :sad.:

Ever since GW and FW (for whatever :censored:  reason) decided to stop producing and selling BT decals, my stock on crosses diminished.

Can anyone recommend a third party seller that offers Templar Decals or does anyone have experience with printing them yourself?

My Internet research wasn't very succesful... Also I'm terrible at painting them freehand and also don't want half my army to have painted crosses while the other half uses decals.

Thanks for your help!

I remember reading a thread about printing your own in either the PCA or Tutorial forums. It basically boiled down to "Print, transfer, let dry, seal, complete model," if I remember correctly. I will see if I can find and link the article for you.

We also have a few guys in here who have maltese cross pauldrons for sale on their websites if you want an already present cross that you just paint.

Simple. Google Black Templar Decals. Jay Aden (sp?) sells some that were printed by Microscale and while I have almost no wh40k experience I have been a modeller for years and Microscale decals are simply the best I've ever used.

Hope this helps - but remember I'm a Neophye :(

I like this guy's Maltese crosses, they adhere well and come in two useful sizes. They come in White, Black and Red, (the red could be darker, but looks ok on a black background)

They also sell blank inkjet transfer paper, be warned, if you want white transfers, you need the white backed paper.

Thanks for the feedback! I do have an inkjet printer (nothing fancy) but found it hard to find proper decal paper. Is there any particular brand or type of paper that should be used?

Not sure on a brand, but do make sure that you get the proper paper for your printer. The inkjet and laser paper are generally not inter-changeable. Not knowing where you are geographically located all I can say is check out the local hobby stores and ask lots of questions before purchase.

There are definitely sites that do decals so you don't have to mess with printing them. I know Armorcast does and I think a couple of others. I'll have a look when I get home. Also another alternative is to get some raised shoulder pad icons as well, I know there is a guy on shapeways that sells them super cheap.  Pop goes the monkey is the shop and it's 18 bucks for them but you get 60. I've bought them and they are excellent.

Well, I stumbled across this site (https://squareup.com/store/jay-adan/item/black-templar-decals) but I don't know if they

a ) are trustworthy

b ) ship to europe

I'll check out armorcast! Problem is that almost all of my marines already have their shoulder pad glued on, with a decal cross on the left shoulder. I now need about 60 or more crosses for all the right shoulders :biggrin.: I originally wanted to create custom crusade badge decals for all the right shoulders but I can't find any darn decal paper around here.

While it may be a bit late to bring to the table.. I do believe that the brand you were looking for as far as printing decals? That would be Testors. Had a few sheets in a drawer of my paint desk, with a few batches of Templar decals made on them. Took me a few tries, because I can see where the first batches didn't turn out 'quite' right... but at least it's something of note that can be put to use.

Seriously, look at Veni Vidi Vici in my earlier post, they sell both crosses and decal paper, and it works. The caveat is this, if your design includes white, buy the white backed paper. (Unless your printer can actually print white as a colour, which hardly any can.) You also then need a can of setting varnish to stop the ink running later.

They truly have some cool stuff. Thanks for the advice! Already ordered some stuff.

Are the smaller or the bigger crosses of the 25mm ones those that fit on the shoulder pads?

I have three different sizes from VVV

M10 Sheets - these are ideal for shoulder pads

10M4 - these are smaller and I find these great for the circle on the back of Primaris reactor backpacks.

MM04 - these are much bigger than the picture suggests. The smaller ones are similar to the M10, the larger ones are usable for vehicles.

Saying that now, I can't seem to find the 10M4 sheets on his webshop atm.

Edit: http://www.3vwargames.co.uk/upshop/shop/10mmtransfer.html Here they are!

The place I get my transfers from is the Mighty Brush.  It's the only place I have used but they have such an awesome selection I would highly recommend them.

Do their red crosses show up against black? I bought some red crosses from an Armorcast vendor (something-GnomishWorkshop) and whilst the black and white crosses were perfect, the red ones were rather translucent and didn't show up against black.

Yes they do! I haven't had any issues with my decals not showing on black or white.

Yeah, they are visible. Bit orangey if anything.

Unlike TMB's decals for the variety, but I find they curl much more than VVV, which are a dream to apply.

Even the old forgeworld red transfers had trouble covering black.

I have only good things to say about mighty brushs transfers but I haven't tested their red ones properly yet

Thanks for the help guys!

Hello Brothers, this is Ginfritter of Ginfritter's Gnomish Workshop and Armorcast! I have been making Iron Cross decals since 1999! I have recently upgraded my printing process and I can now print brilliant colors that have a white underlayer. So no more faded reds over black anymore! I am expanding the line to have the original sized crosses designed for Tactical Marines and i am rolling out Primaris scaled shoulder pad decals as well.
