11th Company Colors

I seem to remember in the Dark Imperium novel mention that the Ultramarines 11th Company had light blue shoulder trim.  Skimming through the novel I can't seem to find that reference anywhere.  Does anyone remember if this is true and where I can find it.  Thanks...

The only thing we know from DI is that the Primaris Captain of the 11th company does not have any company color on shoulder trim (so they're regular Ultramarine blue as the rest of his armour). As for squads numbered 11 and higher, they are still aiming at company size of roughly 100 marines though, according to the 8ed SM codex. The 2nd company has 13 or 14 squads but 105 or 106 marines total (including command squad and dreadnoughts). Even Guilliman appreciates the value of MSU.

Page 230. The remaining Unnumbered Sons took on a light blue as their 11th company color.

Thanks for the page number, in the limited edition it is page 254
Curious. What else did they add to the story?

Larger print lol!

The background is fairly loose regarding the Ultramarines size now. The 11th Company is essentially the Ultramarines Primaris contingent operating in Guilliman's crusade, is it not? Or have they joined the Ultramarines as 11th?

Also, Guilliman still used the Victrix Guard previously who were Ultramarines who accompanied him whilst the Chapter continued to exist in Ultramar.

Has this formation been disbanded to give way to the 11th Company? I seem to remember Dark Imperium still mentioning them?

In my head I have 2 branches of Ultramarines - Ultramarines from the Chapter and those that accompany Guilliman. The size of each is seperate, as evidence by the creation of the Victrix Guard and 11th Companys.

In fact my Ultramarines are themed around being Victrix Guard...

Yes, the Greyshields (Primaris that were part of the crusade) that would go to join the Ultramarines Chapter formed up into the 11th company. Except for a Librarian, it consisted entirely of Primaris marines.

They also had the joys of riding to battle in an Overlord; an aircraft much like a Corvus Blackstar, but on a bigger scale. It seems to have wing-mounted tri-barrelled Desolator Lascannons and nose-mounted banks of meltacannons. It can carry at least 36 Primaris marines, and is a beast.

Of the Ultramarines that accompanied Guilliman on the Terran crusade, the Victrix Guard are still led by Sicarius. It seems like there's a few dozen remaining at least, but Dark Imperium isn't very forthcoming on numbers for...anything, really. There are no Primaris Marines in the Victrix Guard that I know of.

I think it is sort of implied that the creation of an 11th company by Guilliman is an administrative fudge. He wants Felix Decimus to be one of his new Tetrarchs, but Felix was technically one of the Unnumbered Sons. Since Guilliman was disbanding the Unnumbered Sons at the end of the Indomitus Crusade, he needed to place Felix somewhere in the traditional chapter system, but also provide him with a rank appropriate for someone who is to be made a Tetrarch.

Actually, thinking about it, this wouldn't be the first time Guilliman created an 11th company for the UM. They had a phantom one under Oberdeii guarding Sotha until the Third Founding.

Not to mention that there were two "4th Companies" for a time. The one led by Uriel in Ultramar and the one led by another captain in the Indomitus Crusade (from the new Crusade novella).

Now we have the Fulminata (from RobMac's new novel) where you have at least a half company of Primaris Ultramarines operating as an independent Strike Force.

It seems Guilliman is increasing the size of the Ultramarines well past the 1000 man limit. He seems to somewhat want the 13th Legion back. Given that he's now assigning 10 Ultramarine Successor Chapters to Ultramar under the command of Calgar as well.

I’m just finishing the Crusade story, is that Cassian’s company?

I actually really enjoyed that story. I know everyone claims to hate the new stuff but I really have enjoyed it.

I actually think Guilliman isn't breaking any rules for the most part. The Codex always was said to contain, since at least 2nd edition, that Chapters often exceeded this limit (1000) in times of war.

Which is why 2 4th Companies isn't such a big deal for the in-universe people to accept.

The 11th Company isn't crazy either as it's reconciling extended numbers into a Chapter organisation.

The extra Chapters stationed near the Ultramarines could be interpreted as extending the influence and power of that Chapter, but Calgar feels different. He feels snubbed by it and given the amount of autonomy a Chapter wields it's likely the Ultramarines have been undermined politically.

Really interesting... Do you know the name of that Successor Charpters?

I think my girlfriend is going to give me a Guilliman, and a friend is going to give me some  marines (Assault on Black Reach) so... I'm thinking about painting  them as Ultramarines or maybe a successor chapter involved in the Indomitus Crusade or Dark Imperium with Guilliman...

I'm a Black Templar so I'm totally new in this part of the forum... please don't tell to my BT brothers!

I'm reading a lot about Ultramarines these days because I wasn't playing 40k for years... maybe last game was on 2012, but I have played 4  games in the last 3 months!

There will be 10 Chapters protecting Ultramar: the Ultramarines, the Scythes of the Emperor, and 8 new chapters created at Raukos. Two of them are named: the Praetors of Ultramar and the Avenging Sons.

Don't forget the Void Tridents, Avenging Sons and Knights Cerulean.

The Void Tridents are interesting since their Chapter planet is Talassar, which also happens to be the birthplace and Dukedom of Cato Sicarius. Leading to a pretty complicated situation where a Chapter is based on a planet that is run by an individual in its parent Chapter.

Unless Sicarius gets his wish to be a Chapter Master, even if it's by transfer to a new Chapter. ;)

I doubt that's going to happen since it doesn't appear to be the way things have been done since the 2nd Founding, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

In all likelihood, assuming Sicarius remains in the Ultramarines, I'm betting that his authority over Talassar will be passed to the nascent Chapter.

Considering his personality in the books (Blades of Damocles, Knight of Talassar etc.) he's more likely to challenge anyone who wants to take his title to a duel to the death before letting it go :biggrin.:

Ah, a choose your own adventure...

You are Cato Sicarius. You are standing before your Primarch, Roboute Guilliman, within the Temple of Correction.

Roboute Guilliman: Captain Sicarius, you are henceforth relieved of your title as Suzerain of Talassar.

What do you say?

"Aye, aye, sir." (turn to page 8)

"You can have the Tempest Blade when you pry it from my cold dead fingers!" (turn to page 20)

Page 8

Upon giving your response, the Primarch nods respectfully and you are allowed to leave with your life. Where do you go?

Page 20

The last thing you remember seeing was a blue and gold blur, and then a bright light. The next day, the Ultramarines Chapter gathers to remember the late Brother-Captain Cato Sicarius as his remains are interred deep within the Chapter's vaults. The end.
