[DW] Blackthorn and Swordhand: OOC Thread

But that makes for a highly specialised character that does one thing amazingly well, but can lag in other areas.

An old meme-themed character I ran for a while, the Ultramarine 'Maximus' had a stack of fellowship from mk4 armour, the Shard of Bekrin, universal renown, and xp giving him a three digit stat. The squad had more cohesion than they could use and were frequently hitting the +60 maximum bonus limit.

He was about as underwhelming as you'd expect in combat with his honour blades and gilded boltgun, but that just gave him more reason to be popping off squad mode abilities with his actions.

I can just picture him, mid combat, taking out a copy of the Codex and reading out loud from it.

I'm just waiting for Mojake to post with Achillion concluding the voting and announcing Kol as the winner.

Komrk and Steel Company - feel free to prepare a post with your characters overseeing the Squad training.

I will prepare the next phase of the narrative.

The more I find out about your roleplaying history AT, the more wary of you I become...

Just the game designer in my, I tend to approach most systems with an eye on 'where does this fall over'.

But then use it to create non-standard characters that are on par with others (like sniper assault marines), rather than a Carcharodon with a signum and stormbolter...

Aaaaand we're back. I missed you guys.

Sorry, lads. Cold snap in Texas killed my internet for about a week with equally dead phone service along with it. Then there was a couple days of maintenance and catchup to get back on track.

Y'all kill Akkad yet while I was gone? :D

Updated both of my lingering placeholders. A brief conversation with our friendly neighbourhood Death Knight, and then somehow managing to shoe-horn an acceptance speech to an honour he didn't even receive. Those pesky, verbose Consecrators.

Dude that piece is amazing! A really deep insight

....Rather than a Carcharodon with a signum and stormbolter...

Ok, I sense I'm missing a very nasty trick here...

Y'all kill Akkad yet while I was gone? :biggrin.:

How you do my boi like that?  Oh right - y'all be a Huronist... :tongue.:

At risk of going off-topic:

You name only a usurper, a thief in the night, who took the good name of better men than he!

We're at risk of derailing the thread, so this will have to be the last shot, and we should take it elsewhere... :tongue.:

r.e. Komrk's latest response; if any Swordhanders want to give me some detail on their strengths and weaknesses so Achillioncould relay them to our new Sergeant, that would be great - bonus points if they reflect your actual stats!

Chaka's shooting accuracy is quite poor beyond the close ranges he is used to(His BS is "Only" 36), but when he gets close his Powersword is swung with skill, and he certainly has the speed and endurance to get close to a ranged foe. As for non-combat talents, he is reasonably knowledgeable about the Imperial Guard and Navy, Void Combat, and even has some experience in Tech-Rites. He is also a passionate Storyteller, and talented Rememberancer.

Ok, I sense I'm missing a very nasty trick here...

Carcharodons gain +10 damage whenever they get a to-hit bonus for ganging up on an opponent with no other qualifiers. Signum links explicitly allow ganging up with ranged weapons.

By 3rd rank a Carcharodon tactical marine can expect to be rolling +16 damage with any mastercrafted bolt weapon, most likely at +60 to hit...

Titus is fairly obvious, his strengths are scouting, shooting and a willingness to make the cold, efficient choices. His weaknesses are basically the same points from another viewpoint, because he works best alone can be left exposed, and his cold manner and tactics can make it hard for others to trust (or like) him.

But I'd imagine Vorkys will know all this already! :D

He'd work well with Atratus - or possibly see him as a rival.

Much like what Lysimachus has said, Vorkys already knows what Titus' and Gideon's strengths and weaknesses are, but I might put it here for Mojake's and others benefit,

Gideon is much like Titus a skilled Marksman, but Gideon is more skilled in shock tactics, and is (I presume) more skilled at Melee. However, where Titus is cold and more willing to make the more harder of choices, Gideon is warmer, and is something of a foil to Titus personality wise. In weaknesses, Gideon is less tough than that of his other brothers, though it's attributed to him more often relying upon agility and dodging his opponents attacks.

Also I've noticed that Gideon may actually have higher BS than Titus, but I'm attributing this to Gideon being more of a mobile gunner rather than a still and careful marksman like Titus.

Hey guys!

Apologies for absence, I'm in the middle of a busy work period and it's taken me a few days just to keep with with the awesome narratives in the thread! I've tried my best to backdate my own small contribution.

As a Devastator, Boros excels at fire support duty. That doesn't mean he'd shirk away from close combat, of course! He has fought nearly everything the Orpheus Sector could throw at him and lives to tell the tale. As an Angel Revenant, he believes in the Emperor's divinity and will probably get along with ecclesiastical representatives the easiest. In an attempt to expand their lore a bit, I envisioned that the Revenants prefer to deploy by Drop Pod when possible, so Boros is somewhat versed in shock- and orbital assault procedures.

As far as his personality is concerned, he believes that all of his squadmates deserve a modicum of respect, but his Chapter's habitual aloofness hinders him from forming close bonds quickly. He is not inherently bad-tempered, but it's easy to get him there - just speak ill of the Imperial Creed!

Rivals, but of a comradely sort, respectful of the other's skill? Be quite cool to write something of them taking turns popping enemy leaders...

Idle curiosity, what gun/ammo does Atratus run with?

A modified Mk.IX 'Ultra'-pattern sharpshooters rifle (needle rifle, completely silent, 1km range).

His skill is nothing special by Astartes standards but he is particularly stealthy and uses a specialised siege-auspex as a targetting scope allowing him to scan and fire through walls and other obstructions.

I suspect that Titus will have an easier time inflicting damage under normal conditions, whereas Atratus has more leeway in positioning with his jump pack and scope. He's got a baseline stealth chance of 100% (and no penalty for power armour) but is shooting at a very mundane 42% before bonuses.
