+BCC's 1st Legion of The Long War+

Recommended Posts

Its been a while!

A few games later and the score board looks a little healthier now. Growing in confidence with using Abaddon also helps!

So...progress report:

These are the "specialists" from my first of two advancing units of BL. My Crimson Slaughter units are on hold for a bit until the assembly of these is done.

I've never been a fan of all the trailing cables etc for Lascannons so this chap has had them lopped off to make it more portable for a moving unit. I guess for static units such as Havocs I would use the normal version.

Champion of the unit. I like to use just enough possessed parts to show true warp effects but not so its overt. Plus the juxtaposition of normal head and arms next to warped arms etc I've always loved on Chaos.

image

Just a normal billy with bolt pistol and counts as chansword....nothing really to see here move along....

image

Icon bearer with mega claw of doooooooooooooooooooom!

image

The rest of the units will be chaps with bolters etc but they're still even more WIP!

FOR THE LEGION!

Brothers!

I have been busy.....I promise! :biggrin.:

See... I purchased a notebook to make army lists!

image

Onto the minis! I've been wanting to add a Havoc squad for a few months and finally got around to it at last! First game they died to incoming boltgun rounds but hey ho!

image

Next....that advancing under fire unit I've been banging on about! Sitting awaiting paint (aren't they all?!) but soo happy they are up and ready!

And Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarn (not Khârn in game, Aspiring Champion). Swapped the axe and backpack for something more naughty I feel!

image

Lastly, some Sons of the Cyclops, followers of the Black Legion. They will get some gold and black banding like in the codex. :)

C&C's as always are mucho welcome!

Cheers WarriorFish, fingers crossed they'll be ready in a week or so. With a basic spray of Retributor Gold, wash with Agrax Earthshade and then a light drybrush that'll be 90% of them painted anyway! I mean..I still have 7 to assemble but hey ho!

I used Duncan's (paint be upon him) method, Reikland wash gives it a bit of a warmer tone and Sigmarite on top finishes the gold neatly. I'm not sure what colour wash might be better for going with black but Agrax is usually a safe default. The time it takes to fill in all the blocks is arguably the real painting :laugh.:

@hushrong Cheers bud! I have always tried to make/assemble each squad to represent what they would be doing at the height of battle. So normal squads are rushing to get into a firefight etc, Havocs would be deploying to lay down cover, Terminators looking for targets etc etc.

I can't stand "off the shelf" looks in my collection. I can understand why others have them...just personally I like mine to look as different as I can. Hence a lot of 3rd party bits and bobs too! :D

That's some fantastic progress! Loving the poses, I'm quite partial to dynamic models and these look great :biggrin.: Time for some painting I think... As for the gold I'm currently using the same method as Warriorfish, here is the latest example of how it looks:

It depends on how 'warm' you want the gold, Agrax will give a duller tone - I used it on my Sanguinary Guard:

The Agrax method is nice...so nice that's what I do for my line troopers for Black Legion already :teehee::biggrin.:

I think I will go with Reikland Fleshshade for now and see how it looks, it should be nice and warm and will differentiate them from the rest of the BL units.

Fingers crossed I will get them assembled tonight at the hotel...then undercoat tomorrow and basecoat.....maybe washed too who knows!

No problem, I'm glad it was helpful.  And thanks for the compliment.  I quite like your conversions and look forward to seeing them painted.

For my miniatures, the reikland wash was done over a base of griffon gold - I understand you are thinking of using retributor armour, which would, I suspect, have quite a quite different result.

Fingers crossed these boys will be partially done by close of play today! I have a doubles game tomorrow and need to represent!

Now toying with getting some of the Plague Marines so that I can have a Nurgle element to my BL aswell. We shall see........just popping to the shops ;)

So....I didn't get the Thousand Sons anywhere near tabletop ready for last nights doubles game but hey ho there we go!

But other side of the coin is that last night Abaddon didn't die which is a first for me! He got down to a single wound remaining but tore through 2 Blood Angels characters and finished off a Vindicator to boot. Happy with that!

Not quite sold on Exalted Champions yet....need to tinker with his war gear as currently he tonks around with Burning Amulet thingy, Chainsword and Chainaxe.......

The Champ needs friends, the more models/attacks nearby the greater the effect as you'd expect with only a small squad nearby it's underwhelming so he doesn't feel like he get results.

I think he needs a good weapon too (you could take a power axe which would be nice), let his attacks hit harder and not to mention give him better chances of making the most of his character killing abilities :smile.:

I'm feeling as though that's the more logical choice to. :)

Bump him behind my 10 man close combat unit and sprint forward using Black Crusaders to still give me some firepower. May add in some bolter marines to that squad...say 5 men.

Power axe would be a good call...or that Murder Sword thingy too. Something with a solid punch as his 4 attacks actually aren't that good unless your hitting him up with rerolls and a solid weapon too..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The Murder Sword got my attention when I first read about it, but I've yet to use it. Lack of model (yet) aside I think it suffers from the old neon lights; your opponent knows exactly what you want to do with the model. You'd need to mitigate this by giving the wielder as much mobility as you can, which would likely be a jump pack or bike.

It would mean he doesn't benefit as much from his own rules, but I reckon as it hits like a brick against the targeted character having it on a cheaper platform might be better overall in resource dedication. On the other hand, he's a bit squishier than a Lord without an invulnerable so might find it harder to get where he wants to be.

So maybe start with the power axe as it's modelled and see how that goes? Having a larger squad nearby to buff will do much better, but you should probably take BP/CCW on them to get the most from his re-rolls to wound :smile.:
