The silver-and-purple scheme looks very regal. I like it.

Reasons to use the Steel Crusaders ('Codex: Space Marines' supplement) or the Iron-hearted Angels ('Codex: Blood Angels' supplement): Because you think giving Sternguard Veterans a heavy bolter wtih special issue HEAVY BOLTER ammunition is ALMOST as much fun as shoehorning an Earthshaker cannon into a Land Raider.

Ooooooh, right.. missed the killteam bit. Natural 6 only in 40k would seriously suck..

I started working on Nemesor Tryphaena... And promptly broke her. So I bought another and remade her, slightly different this time. But I've made good progress. The staff and orb are far from done and some other bits might need a little touching up but her body is basically done.

60TnigR.jpg
Here's another with the staff underway
0jjrKQO.jpg

I'm not sure what I'll do with the broken one. I might rebuild it and just use it as an orbless option or (since it was the weapon that broke where I glued multiple pieces together) I might just give it a different weapon. Necron wrists I have had no luck in pinning, though, due to how small they are, so I don't know yet. That's why I did this one differently, pinning the staff head on was easy.

Nemesor looks promising. The silver-and-purple armor, the gold highlights on her staff, look very regal. I hope to see the completed model soon.

I don’t think they’d do that in 40k.

I actually like this change in kill team because of all the negative modifiers to hit. Shooting at an obscured model meant, without a buff, it would never go off. I personally stopped taking tesla because of that.

My Seraptek came today - with the wrong guns. I emailed Forge World about it but it was way too late to hear back before tomorrow. I got some work done on it, but I'm making myself go slow. I decided ahead of time to just pin everything because I've never built a resin model so large and I would HATE to have to rebuild it later. I also think I need to paint some of this detail before I go on - looks like a lot gets covered with some vents so it will be nice to have it painted.
YVcXhJG.jpg

I can't wait to get it finished - it's gonna be huge. This is one of the pieces of the front legs next to an overlord for scale :

Xz9FIhk.jpg
To prepare for this, I went out this weekend and bought a bunch of cheap plastic drawers from Target that I kind of broke and smashed together to put my mountain of leftover sprues away so I would have room to work on it. It took about an hour or so just to wash all the bits to get the mold releaser off. I really can't wait to get it built! Still need a suitably epic name for it, too.

I got a little more done yesterday despite working late and voting. Started painting the body before I built any more because I knew this would be impossible to paint properly if I built it first.

woROL1d.jpg

After doing that I realized I should have sprayed the spine leadbelcher and just taped over it to spray the rest, so I taped up the body very carefully and sprayed the spine.

CecGmYC.jpg

Tonight I should have a lot more time so hopefully I can get a lot done.

Alright, did a TON today. First, I went over all the edges from yesterday much thicker. Thought that'd pop better on the table.
z16f7Z3.jpg

Then I did a second layer of highlighting with genestealer. I didn't get everything because I was worried the abundance of highlighting would actually make it look flatter. Not sure if that was really an issue though.
OuuTtS9.jpg

And here it is with all the vents painted and glued on.
4P54C6U.jpg

Then I did it all over again on the other side. I gave up before finishing the vents because I'm getting sloppy and starting not to care so I'll pick it up tomorrow.
WJkw9Sb.jpg

I did also do some modeling and minor painting on other bits but I don't have pictures of those. Tomorrow will be somewhat limited time wise but Friday the group is all coming over to get hobby time together, so I'm looking forward to that. I should be able to get this piece finished tomorrow at least, and then maybe start building legs.

Day 4: as expected, didn't have much time so I didn't make as much progress. But, it looks more like it should, so I'm fine with it.

After finishing the vents on the left side, I started work on the hips and pelvis. I even painted this orb (under the brace thing) that literally no one will ever see:
fHTctn4.jpg

Here are the hips:
38sm2v7.jpg

Then I got them all attached:
s7Lb2u2.jpg

Then at some point I needed a change so I went ahead and built one of the claws. I put about 5 or 6 pins in this and one of them was off by just a hair, which was honestly better than I expected but also a pain to fix (I just used a knife to widen the edge of the hole so it kind of funneled the rod in, that was enough).

c7nv5zf.jpg

More tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to the legs, but I am looking forward to having them done. Also FedEx says I'll have the proper guns for it tomorrow which will be nice. I'm keen to see how to magnetize it.

Well, I got a lot done. I'm also starting to get fed up so I might take a day off tomorrow (but I might not. We'll see).

o6ayrgv.jpg

So I don't think I have to magnetize it. I'm afraid to glue the last arm on to test it but the instructions seem to thing the ball and socket of the weapons don't need to be glued, they are supposed to just pop in and out of the mount. I am worried it won't line up quite right though. A lot of bits on this model have been slightly warped (the shoulders are built and primed but one is really twisted - I got it most of the way and I'm hoping a few extra pins will help twist it the rest of the way and keep shape) and I don't want to glue everything in and find it won't pop in and out.

I was planning on getting the shoulders done and attached today also but I cut my knuckle pretty badly scraping a piece and that really took the wind out of my sails. My wife thinks I should have gotten stitches but I just used superglue on it since I had it out.

On the bright side, FW doesn't want the extra guns they sent me back, which is a sweet problem to have. Once I get the legs done it's pretty much just detail work left, too, which I'm excited about. I might be done over the weekend if I keep up at this rate, which would be pretty impressive considering I usually take months to even start painting stuff.

You did a good job painting and assembling the model, but isn't Games Workshop concerned Hasbro might sue them for the model's resemblance to Unicron? Or are your Necrons "Oldcrons" who worship the "Chaos-bringer" as the C'tan of C'tan, "God of gods"?

Alright, got to work bright and early today. The shoulders on the left side were warped as :cuss which I got maybe 70% straightened out before I couldn't get it any more. I thought maybe pinning it a lot could go the rest of the way, but not quite, so I put a small pin on each side of the middle plate and have the side ones resting on top to even out, which worked.
g8KpCN5.jpg

I painted them using @NtaW technique - just watered paint down, slopped it in messily and wiped up the excess. Worked great!

a7Y8pTi.jpg

The legs were a nightmare. I balanced it upside down, glued the legs in, used random stuff to prop them up at the right angles while it dried. I had a piece of paper balanced on them to make sure it was flat. I think it's listing a bit but oh well.
sovILv9.jpg

The legs will be painted differently. I think on the forelimbs I'll make one more panel black, not sure about the rear legs. I think I like them all silver but I need to touch that up a lot and then wash it.

Rwr7OKs.jpg

Still needs the head (which is primed but not painted, not sure how I should yet) and the guns. They do pop in and out but not very well so I'm afraid of breaking something. Not sure if I should find a way to magnetize them or just count on that working.

This is probably the most time I've ever spent on one model (and the most hobby time I've ever had in a week, I'd guess) which is cool for me. I'm sure I could double the amount of time I've put into it and still not be done though - gotta touch up a ton of spots and then decide what to do with the head and legs. Might take a few days off and work on something else while I consider that, but I also might just try to get it done. We will see.

Looks great, and I'm glad that my slop technique has helped! I got a good chuckle out of that.

Is it worth contacting FW about a new shoulder part? For all the money and time models represent they should at the very least be cast properly.

Dang. Well for what it's worth from looking at the model I can't really tell what warping issue you've had, so it isn't overly obvious to the eye after the work you've done.

This is what it looked like before I pinned it together but after I tried hot water. At first all three plates were on top of each other. It looked like they were about to give an inspirational cheer or something.

Oh yikes. That would have been a deal breaker for me but you've done pretty good work fixing the issue. Is it at least in a spot where a mounted/painted gun would draw the eye away from it?

Alright, in keeping with the 2019 goals thread, I am trying to update more regularly.  I'm trying to get a narrative campaign going in my group that will start at 500 points and increase gradually, with the restriction that everything has to be painted to play it.  So, since I'm hoping to get this started in the next few weeks, I'm starting with the troops and working my way up.  These were mostly untouched as of a few days ago, so I'm glad to have them ready.  I'll need to seal them but I want to get something I can use with my airbrush so I need to shop around first.

I've been uncertain of how, but I want to find a way to mark out a few Immortals for Kill Team purposes.  Previously I would distinguish which models were specialists by what stage of painting they were in - that won't work anymore!  I may do some battle damage to mark them out.  I'm open to suggestions on that front.

Here's the progress so far:

Spoiler

I have 10 more immortals to do bases on, and then I think 10 more that are just primed.  I also have 15 warriors that just need bases done.  After I do all that, I'll treat myself with painting one of my vehicles.  Somewhere I also need to find time to finish up painting the terrain... Oh well, at least I'm making progress!
