Vosogoth Dynasty

You may consider small shoulder markings for the Immortals, if they’re you’re specialists. I don’t think that’s unheard of (Immortals painting kill-marks), or at least implausible, as immortals are able to glory in their kills, and many lords may permit them to do so.

Of course, you’ll have to sketch the glyphs someplace so you know which is which, but that’ll probably fit on the roster sheet.

I like the way your Necrons look. It seems strange to paint the transparent rods in their Gauss weapons, but that can easily be justified by stating your Warlord ordered his troops to cover up the weapons' luminous sections and avoid alerting the enemy before he attacks. (Cain's Last Stand, republished in the Ciaphas Cain: Defender of the Imperium omnibus, portrays Necrons as capable of engaging in covert ops.)

When I'm better with my airbrush, I'll try to make the Gauss look like it's glowing purple (codex does show not all Gauss is green). In the meantime that explanation works for me!

Today, I worked more on my Nemesor, Tryphaena, the Enduring. I haven't decided yet how to paint the orb - might try an ink or glaze and see how I like the effect.

She was ancient (for a Necron) even before biotransference and no one thought she'd survive the process. She has a history of outlasting her opponents against all odds.

Also had forgotten about this guy. I very much like how his weapon turned out, I'll need to name and title him.

He might wind up being Vargard to Tryphaena's son, Ka Saron.

The Nemesor's coming on well, I really like the shade of purple and the colour of the base, they work nicely together, especially with the silver as a balancing medium.

I think a glow effect from the orb would be good to do, do you have plans for the discs in the loincloth?

Not yet. I was considering mixing a metallic paint with some purple for that (and maybe a few other areas) to avoid monotony. I also could do them black. I had previously tried a few gold/copper highlights but I don't like the way it looked next to the purple. Metallic purple or just bright silver seems most likely right now. Edited by Tyriks

I think bright silver would work well, a metallic purple might just get lost against the base purple. I did wonder if a glowing green could work, but then things might look a bit busy.

Just been looking back through the thread and I must say that the highlighting on the Seraptek works well to create the effect of energy coursing through the recesses. The thing is an absolute beast.

Tryphaena looks good so far. As you named her after a historical figure, then the "counts as Vargard Obyron" should have a name that matches Tryphaena thematically. May I suggest "Sandan, Lion of Vosogoth"? (The Hittite lion god is depicted on the reverse side of coins minted in the historical Tryphaena's husband's reign.)

Good suggestion, thanks! I think I will use that. He won't be run as Obyron's rules, since he's stuck running as Sautekh (which I rarely play). I just meant I might give him the title Vargard, unless I find one in one of the books that sounds better with Sandan.

I also need to scrape that Sautekh logo off his chest. I wonder how hard it would be to cut a generic one off another model and replace that. Might be easier to carefully paint it on.

Having cut items like that off lots of models, getting the finecast one off with a sharp blade will be fairly easy given the soft resin. Getting a plastic one will be harder but not impossible though the plastic may curve as you cut it off making gluing in place a but of a pain. I've had that happen then the glue is everywhere and I'm mad and need a break  It's not like you can't do it with a fresh blade but you'll have to be pretty patient. Could it be easier to shave Obryon's chest flat then take the entire coffin shape off another model (or was that the plan all along)?

Got any fine grit sandpaper? You can tape it down tight to your table face up to sand the back flat once you have it separated out of the ribs. Since he's finecast the scale likely matches up with Warriors pretty close.

Another option could be to GS a coffin on his chest then use another chest as it cures to press the image into it. Fresh blade to add sharp edges to the shape if it got messed up, sometimes easier done when cured.

That's not a bad idea. I just got som silicon tipped GS tools so this could be a good chance to try using them. I might give that a shot tonight if I have time.

Forgot to post yesterday, but I got more Immortals worked on. I wish I had built all my Immortals as Tesla, because I only ever run them that way. If I want Gauss I think Tomb Blades are better since they're fast enough to get in RF and can't get MWBD anyway. I guess I also wished I'd built all my tomb blades as Gauss since not getting MWBD hurts them for Tesla.

The purple on these looked like it only had one thin coat, there were a lot of spots poking through, so I fixed that. Then I redid the bases. These I started a long time ago (I think we'll before I settled on my scheme) so they don't look great to me, but since they're Gauss I don't want to sink a lot of time fixing little mistakes right now.

That puts me at 15 that are tabletop ready. I have 5 more to base, 5 just primed, and I think I have 5 to build that I had forgotten about from the Necron Kill Team box. I might buy 5 more to make that an even 30.

Alright, after ruining three warrior torsos I'm giving up on the coffin transplant! Might just use a transfer. The sautekh symbol scraped off easily enough though.

For Christmas, my grandmother got me a pin vice with some really tiny bits, meaning I can finally pin spindly little necron bits like wrists and weapon hafts. Used them to make this guy, who will probably be Tryphaena's son Ka Saron. I think there are 5-6 pins in the right arm alone but I like the results. I always struggle to find empty hands for Necrons so I thought of this as an answer:

The idea here is he's just come out of a duel or something, victorious but a little worse for wear. I will probably put a severed head on his base or something to that effect, and some blood dripping off the scythe.

It's just a Lychguard forearm chopped up with some of the small scarabs from the Tesseract Vault crawling on it. The idea is they're starting to repair it. I might do another crawling up the leg or on the shoulder.

I think I tackled these mostly to avoid painting today, haha. Now I'm ready to grab a brush again though so I will try to get some bases done, probably.

Ka Saron looks promising. I like the scythe. Will you decorate his base with his opponent's dismembered/disemboweled/decapitated body?

Absolutely. I might wait for the model to actually kill something in game and try to replicate their corpse for the base. Or just pick one of my regular group whose army would look good as a base decoration. I do think I have the dead space wolf from 30k ahriman I haven't used yet, but I'd rather model it after an actual army I play a lot.

Boo on the wrecked Warrior chests with no success, is it worth maybe doing a push mold to cast the coffin piece? You could just use GS for the whole thing, no need to get fancy with it. If there's a transfer that size of course that works as well.

As for basing your armies with the bodies of the enemy, I've always felt there's no better place to look than your own collection. That way when they're on display your armies look like they've been fighting a campaign against each other and it deepens the narrative and connection between collections.

I'll try green stuff before I start painting for sure. There is a transfer that looks just about perfect so I'll save that as last resort.

As for other armies, I have admech and Thousand Sons. The admech I am very likely to not keep beyond enough for kill team. The Thousand Sons might be a bit too much, aesthetically, but I'm considering it. I do have some Tyranids for KT I haven't built yet, but I have little expectation to add to that (I can't imagine painting that many models!). That's why I think I might do one of my regular opponents instead.

Fingers crossed for your casting, post up the results you get from that avenue. If my (and countless other's) Scarabs are any indication you should be able to pull it off nicely but there's a few things that can go awry in the process. Getting just the right amount of moisture can be tricky until you get the feel for it and can make or break an attempt.

I see what you mean with the basing. Hopefully you settle in on something you like the look of.
