If Guilliman were to ...

Fluffwise, the Lord Commander's Victrix Guard is Cato and a group of 20ish Honor Guard/Sternguard/Vanguard/Company Veterans. And probably a small group of Custodians. (He is the Lord Commander, after all.)

I dont think any details about the Victrix Guard have ever been given, so you have some latitude.

For me, my Victrix Guard is designed around shepherding Guilliman into close combat (I play him "wrong" but don't care. The Emperor's Sword is too much fun not to use). Therefore my VG module is:

Honor Guard

Bolter Aggressors

Assault Bolter Intercessors

Assault Cannon Venerable Dreadnaught

A librarian (preferably Tigurius)

This does an admirable job of putting out bolter fire, body blocking, absorbing Smites, and sloughing off a couple wounds that might get through Guilliman's 3++ without being heinously expensive (though it ain't cheap).

It remains to be seen what, if any, of this will be replaced by, or augmented with, Custodes.

There's an Ultramarines detachment that exists to escort Guilliman in battle. It's 20 Ultramarines hand picked by Guilliman, and the detachment is led by Cato Sicarius. I think it was called the Victrix Guard.

I'm checking out the Honor Guard & Calgar set. They say that Sicarius is the head of Guilliman's Honor Guard. So Sicarius, the chapter champion & 3 others that come with the Calgar set, maybe 10 Sternguard?

The one time he showd up in a warzone in Dark Imperium he's surrounded by Custodes and Sisters of Silence.

I like all of these options.

I don't think there's only one right answer here. Feel free to be flexible enough to help your army out. The Victrix is certainly valid, but so is him and Custodes/Sisters. Basically he has a traveling band of merry men that can rotate in and out of service for him.

That's what I will do. I read it in Dark Imperium and I knew that I will have them included in my army when I take Guilliman. I think there were six of them. Not 100% sure though.

Funny thing I bought a box of Custodes just some days before GW announced the new Codex for them. So, third army. :)

He probably has his Victrix Guard, a small bodyguard of Custodes, and Sisters of Silence, which he uses in whatever combination he sees fit. He likely also utilizes any of these as emissaries as need be, to enact his will on other fields of battle or to ensure compliance from military leaders he doesn't fully trust. I would also imagine that, depending on the field of battle and the forces involved, he may be assigned an honour guard to show, in effect, fealty and acceptance of his authority. I could absolutely see the Dark Angels doing this, both as a gesture of honour and respect to the Lord of one of the old Legions, and to have a force on hand to relay any sign of the Fallen or other relevant info they may be privy to. So maybe a Lieutenant or Chaplain, with a selection of Veterans to accompany him.

And before all the "Dark Angels would never listen to another Primarch!" nonsense starts up, if Ultras can be sworn to secrecy by the Lion, then Angels can be cordial to Guilliman. Plus I fully expect they would still demand proper respect be shown as the First Legion, and their Commander be shown the proper deference and privilege afforded to the Ist by the XIIIth.
