Thoughts on creating Ultramar specific Forge World?

Hi everybody,

I am thinking of adding some Adeptus Mechanicus units to my Macragge PDF and Ultramarines armies.

I could only find reference to Konor and Gantz in the Realm of Ultramar however there were apparently numerous Mechanicum enclaves at the time of the Heresy.

Basically I really like the Ad Mech models and want to paint some up but as I probably wouldn't want to do a whole army I thought it would be cool to just make up my own colour scheme and background so that I can cherry pick units and add them as a small detachment.

So far I have a name - Ultramenides and an army symbol:

The colour scheme will match both my Macragge PDF and Ultramarines - so Ultramarine Blue, Bone and gold.

What are people's thoughts on this? Is it alright to just make up a new enclave/Forge World or planet within the 500 Worlds?

Or should I stick with Konor/Gantz and use the same colour scheme/logo above for those (don't believe GW have one for either?).

I think this area is undefined enough that you are free to do what you want.  Greater Ultramar is definitely a much larger area than Macragge and a few systems around it.

You also have the passage of a century.  The logistical needs of warzone: Ultramar and warzone: Damocles alone could have resulted in any existing industrial world being upgraded into a production hub.  I'm not sure what treaties and designations and what level of production would be needed for an industrial world to become a forgeworld, but I think it's an option.

As far as Konor/Gantz goes, I think you're in the clear there as well.  It's never been defined in any way that would contradict you and given it was recently the subject of a worldwide campaign and still didn't get defined, I doubt there's any real chance of it suddenly getting more info any time soon.

Great idea. I love what you've started with. Ultramar is certainly big enough that almost anything fits into it... even Deathwatch Fortresses are permanently stationed there. There's no reason a Forgeworld or two wouldn't be.

There's also Anuaris. A Forge World within Ultramar that Horus tried unsuccessfully to turn against Guilliman during the Heresy (by having them deny reinforcements to Calth and leaving the bulk of the 13th Legion to die there after the Word Bearer ambush).

Has a bit of an interesting backstory that one.

Ooh I hadn't heard of that one - will look that up. :)

Well, while not exactly what you were looking for, I think the Praetors of Orpheus (link to Lexicanum) might present another avenue...

Their fluff blurb, starting with the 5th edition codex, reads: The technological lore of the Praetors of Orpheus is second only to that of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Many believe that the two are tied by more than shared service in the Emperor's name.

Oh also note that Konor and Anuaris are both hinted be Dark Age of Technology outposts from the pre-Imperium human civilization (in fact its postulated that Ultramar itself was one big DAOT outpost on the Eastern Fringe).

This gives you the opportunity to add some cool and unconventional modifications to your models. More traditional 'sci-fi' add ons alongside the whole 'grimdark' aesthetic if you will. Though if you want to keep it purely 40k I understand :)

Thanks everybody. Now I've seen the Armiger there might also be an Ultramar affiliated Knight Household there too......

Which one is that?

There's House Konor which is listed in the 8th Edition Codex but is there another one too? 0.0

Well so far I've been using House Terryn with Ultramarines campaign smybols and honorific Ultimas but thinking now will either have Mechanicum Knights in Ultramenides colours or also invent my own Knight Household..... :)
