Surprise conversion! I only needed a personalised Iron Priest to finish the Einherjar of my Dekk-Tra so I present you Ivar the Boneless:

wiBUZ3z.jpg

Ivar the Boneless was one of the two sons of Jarl Lothbrok to survive the implantation process when Russ joined in the Great Crusade and took his Wolf Brothers with them.

He was born with shrivelled, wrecked legs, though with sheer cunning and fierceness he made a name for himself as a great warrior.

Thus, when becoming a Space Marine his keen mind was best used as the Forge Lord of the Dekk-Tra and, to always remember that he was born as a runt, meant to die from birth, he rejected replacing his lower limbs with cybernetic replacements but instead constructed himself with his mentor, Floki, a special suit of armour that would embrace his legs and give him the prowess required to keep with his brothers in battle whilst letting him showcase proudly that he was the one who defied all odds and rose to greatness.

Parts used:

- Upper torso of Narik Dreygur since I used the legs for another conversion

- Arms and backpack of MKIII tech marine

- Axe from Krom Dragongaze

- Pointing left hand from wherever

- Hair was a transplant for another mini with greenstuff to make it fit

- Shoulder pads, belt and cabling from the 40k iron priest

- Massive amounts of green stuff to beef up the torso

- Legs from Kor Phaeron

Raven Guard Lieutenant complete.

Parts list:

Head - Anvil Industry’s Raven Helmet

Torso - Tactical Squad

Arms - Tactical Squad

Legs - Tactical Squad

Backpack - Tactical Squad

Shoulder pads - my bits box

Scope - Anvil Industry’s Sniper Scope

Bolter stock - Cadian lasgun

Suppressor - 3.2mm styrene rod

Combat knife, grenades, holster - Tactical Squad

So yes, it’s essentially a bog-standard Tactical Marine, but I think it shows how versatile the kit is and the level of personalisation you can get just by switching out some parts.

I can't say I've finished but almost there, not sure how much longer I have but it's gonna be about 12 hours from now till I can't work on him again - for the life of me I can't get his weapon to stay on the arm, I'm hoping it's just because of the glue curing still and it'll be solid enough to stick later tonight after work.

And I am complete with the challenge, despite my very short time scale.

I had pledged to build a Watch Captain for my to-be built Legio squad that is a counts-as Deathwatch army, there's no rules on loadouts for them, so I went creative and made the following from my Decimators chapter.

Here's the majority of what I started with:

med_gallery_26154_4148_1238332.jpg

Captain Darro Burak of the Blood of the Emperor Great Company:

Front:

med_gallery_26154_4148_656289.jpg

Left Side:

med_gallery_26154_4148_351075.jpg

Back:

med_gallery_26154_4148_165846.jpg

Right Side:

med_gallery_26154_4148_539555.jpg

General Angle:

med_gallery_26154_4148_578364.jpg

I was tempted to add a cloak, but thought better of it as it befits the Decimators' style of function over form, as descendants of the Iron Hands, thus the bionic arm and head.

So, as it could not be any other way, I declare my pledge completed mere hours before the deadline. I must confess there are many details and mistakes yet to be corrected, but it is over 3am in here, and tomorrow I need to go to work. Overall, fairly satisfied with the result, considering my limited sculpting experience. If I had more time, I would tidy up many things, but I want to complete it on time so I've just made the minimal corrections to have a presentable miniature. The hammer head has ended up a tad too big, but at least I more or less got the shape I aimed for. In the pictures the arms, the standard, and the cape are tacked on, as gluing them before painting would be a suicide.

Without further ado, I present my Imperial Fists praetor:

Two angles

Parts list (it does not really comply with the rules, so I don't mind if it counts as an out-of-competition entry, I'm just glad to have finished it on time):

- Rear torso, left arm, right upper arm, legs (although they are not the original ones, I casted them with blue mold and greenstuff, and enlarged them) and hammer shaft from the limited edition resin praetor sold in GW stores.

-chest plate from a plastic cataphractii.

- Helmet and cape from the custodian guards.

- Shoulder pads from the Allarus custodians.

- Right hand and lower standard shaft from the limited resin ultramarine standard bearer.

- Standard from the FW MKIV command set.

- FW Imperial Fists etched brass.

- Right vambrace from the stormcast paladins.

Hope you like it!

EDIT: forgot to list a part.

For my first real attempt ever at Green Stuff and cloaks from plasticard I am happy.  Even if the candle I used melted the damned trophy rack and spike on his shoulder.  I will replace those eventually.  Not really visible in the photos but there are screaming faces on his sword, a slaanesh symbol on his leg and a half chaos star on his shoulder.  The two symbols are designed to resemble weld marks.

Bits List:

- Tartaros Terminator Body, legs and arms from Burning of Prospero

-Choas Lord Combi Melta

- Various Trophies and spikey bits Terminator Lord kit

- Lord Executioner head

- Green stuff and plasticard

Not as varied a conversion as I'd hoped but still probably one of my best ever (bar the melted rack and shoulder spike.)

Made it by the skin of my teeth I think? Not like it matters anyway against these amazing works of art but at least he's built, miracle his arm finally stayed in place - also my personal favorite has gotta be that Guilliman conversion by Drunes, awesome stuff!

Not part of the rules I guess but if anyone cares, here's the bits list:

3 Deathmark heads

2 Praetorian back pieces

2 Praetorian cage pieces (not sure what else it's called?)

3 Praetorian Spines

3 Praetorian tails

1 Eldar guardian (hacked off his legs from the 4 model box)

1 pair of Praetorian arms

1 Warscythe

2 Voidblades

1 muzzle clipped off of a Synaptic Disintegrator

I know the weapon is...ugly to say the least lol

Same, Midnight Runner! I'm really happy and proud just for making it to the top 10, there have been so many amazing entries! I don't really envy Grotsmasha, just looking at the top 10 I cannot really choose 5, let alone a favourite.

And Grotsmasha, thank you for both choosing my entry, I feel honored, and for making this challenge, this miniature would have stayed unfinished for months had it not been for this opportunity. Looking forward to future challenges, and hoping to place just as high as in this one :D

Congratulations to everyone who has made the top 10! And well done to everyone else too, there are some truly awesome conversions here.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Grotsmasha for this fantastic competition, it's motivated me to do a conversion that I've had sitting gathering dust for ages. And I've got to say, I'm really glad it's not me who has to pick the top 5! That's going to be a tough job! Good luck Grotsmasha!
