Which Superheavy?

I was quietly thumbing through the latest Forgeworld catalogue the other day (as you do) which stirred the desire for a new centre piece model.

Which Superheavy would my fellow Nurgle aspirants recommend for the Death Guard? I am after something which fits the Death Guard fluff but must also have good rules. I am thinking the Typhon Heavy Seige Tank looks the part. I would be interested to know what you would suggest.

It's such a shame the forgeworld super heavies got so insanely overpriced in chapter approved, they're basically useless for anything bar narrative-style or power-based games now.

Perhaps a traitor knight, forgeworld or otherwise? Failing that, you could nurgle up the renegade&heretics baneblade to look more plaguereapery in spirit.

If money and usefulness are no object though, I'd have to plump for the Fellblade. I just love so much T55-style bubble turrets that hark back to the original MK1 predator.

A friend of mine uses some laser destroyer vindicator. I thiink. Anyway this thing is viscous. It has two fire modes and one shot always guarantees 6 damage. It only shoots 36” and I believe it is T 8.

I think it suits DG perfectly.

Personally fielding a Knight often leaves me a little underwhelmed. I think my last game kind of sealed that. On the other hand out of all the super heavy choices, I would feel least ‘ over powering ‘ with that choice.

Vindicator Laser Destroyer as Prot said is a more durable alternative to a Predator. If you overcharge and land two hits you are guaranteed to destroy a Leman Russ in one volley as you'll deal 12 damage at negative 5 AP. It's also great for killing 3 wound models with its 4 shot volley fire mode. The T8 and 12 wounds does suit the DG theme of tougher vehicles and models.

I'm not overly enamoured with Knights currently, and even sold one off recently.

The *issue* with the VLD is the relative short range 36". For a vehicle that is to engange enemy heavy armour that means atlest one turn with -1 to hit for moving. Other than the slight range issue it is a fantastic piece of lost technology.

Mmm, didn't notice the VLD in the Forgeworld Chaos Index. Is it legal for a C:DG or C:CSM force?

G

i believe they FAQ'd it as it wasn't in the index.

I would like 3 of these but its a lot of cost. I did spend some time thinking about a conversion but came round to the face wit could be easier to by it haha

"Q: There is no datasheet for a Chaos Vindicator Laser Destroyer – is there a datasheet I should use for this model?
A: Use the Deimos Pattern Vindicator Laser Destroyer datasheet on page 8 of Imperial Armour Index: Forces of the Adeptus Astartes (and change keywords etc)"

Pity the hellforged venator loses much of its flexibility compared to the imperial counterpart given the point reduction for both.

My friend uses a Leviathan with his DG to great effect. He runs dual Grav Bombard and it absolutely destroys anything. Infantry blobs, heavy tanks, all gone in one volley of fire.

It's also really thematic with the army, a tough lumbering Walker. T8 and a 2+ save makes it very survivable and psychic powers make it mobile.

Ah, didn't know about the VLD being FAQ'd, thanks for that.

The Leviathan is great, I'll be using mine on Saturday in a team game. Dual grav is nasty, unfortunately I only have one grav arm (for now!).

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Typhon btw?

I love the Spartan for my WEs. It's got excellent transport capacity and lots of firepower that my army normally lacks. That said, I don't know how well they would fit into a 40k DG list. We don't have that many CC units that would really take advantage of the tanks main purpose.

While not explicitly a "Super-Heavy" taking 2 Leviathan Dreadnoughts is the price of a Super-Heavy, and both Equipped with Dual Grav Bombards will definitely put the hurting on whoever is on the receiving end. They match the DG theme really well too, if you're in to fluff. I'd like to have 2 in my DG army.
