40k thunderhawk points cost... say what?

Just was trying to build a list and... 1,500 points?? That's a tad much!

For that you can have a full army that can easily down the Thawk. Or even 1 Mastodon and 2 Deredeos with Arcahnus which is effectively more firepower and better transport capacity.

Or 1 of the new primaris Astraeus tanks which will blow the Thawk out of the sky and enough points 3 of the new Repulsor tanks so you have the same carrying capacity and much more firepower.

It just doesn't make sense, me thinks.

In before someone speculates GW is doing that, just so they can sell even more of a coming new-pattern Thunderhawk, with a more balanced cost.

We houseruled the points, to enable our Blood Angels Player to sensibly play it.

Warhound Titans have been pushed up to 2k points (but they also fixed their profiles, so losing a couple wounds doesnt instantly reduced you to dreadnought walking distance). You gotta remember though that vehicles (especially super heavies) have A LOT of wounds, and a pretty good save, and the weapons arent limited to weapon facings anymore.

Thunderhawks are transport craft first and foremost, weapon platforms second. If you want a superheavy gunship, get a Fire Raptor or a wing of Xiphon fighters. Much better for your wallet and more useful on the tabletop.

I believe all the FW super-heavies were jacked up in price to remove them from matched play. Their Power Level didn't change, and they'll fit right in for Apoc or a big narrative game.

Eh pitty. I don't see the point of that since a Thunderhawk isn't more abusive than 2 Storm Eagles and an Astraeus for instance.

Most tournaments don't allow them anyways but I enjoyed building a thematic list of 2k with a Thunderhawk. Would loose most games with it since I had very little to play with but enjoyed it.

It's good to know that still could do that via power level but it feels unnecessary to be honest to adjust so much the points cost. Idem for other superheavies.

Is a real shame - it would make a great centrepiece. I don't care if it's super competetive; I'd just like it to be usable.

(I'm also not thrilled it only carries 15 primaris marines)

They're really tall, OK?

It is a centerpiece ... on the shelf

Lol sad but true.

You know what sucks? I was about to buy the new Primaris super heavy tank - The Astaeus. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I loved it.

Now, with Chapter approved making all of the other Marine LoW choices basically unplayable, it's not a risk I want to take.

I had a chance to see the Astaeus with my eyes and actually hold the model.  It's very impressive and would also be a great centerpiece to an army ... on a shelf :laugh.:

Back the Thawk: although I can't afford one without selling an organ or faking my own death, I would certainly get one because I'm a collector like that.

GW is doing all you Thunderhawk fans a favour.  Now you wont have your giant flyer popped on turn 1 by dark reaper spam.

Have you considered running for president?  I'd love to see a commission painted thunderhawk gunship on the desk of the oval office.

Yes.  Yes, I have.  And I've had to let my Chief of Staff get over this fact.

You could threaten GW with tariffs unless they changed Astra Militarum back to Imperial Guard and updated all Slaanesh models to have extra nipples and tentacles with a big NC17 style label on the boxes.

Make GW Great Again?

Sure you can. It's only 200 points from somewhere else ^_^

Do Thunderhawk Gunship, as a flyer, suffer from the sudden death rule if they are the only unit left on the table?

Have you asked in the Official Rules forum?
