So I played my first game with Lysander on the board...

Good God-Emperor does he melt opponents in combat.  I took him in a 750 pt game at my local Warhammer store's escalation league, and man, was he worth it.

Got matched up with some Iron Warriors (go figure) so all that nice terrain was entirely pointless.  He brought two dreads, a defiler, a sorcerer, a warpsmith and a unit of marines with a heavy bolter.

Turn one the Terminators wrecked his closest dreadnought in shooting, then charged him and finished him off, consolidating towards his sorcerer.  Lysander failed his charge roll, but it didn't matter much.  On the Iron Warriors turn my terminators went from 6 to 3 after the defiler got involved.

Then Lysander joined the party.  First round on turn two he put 4 wounds on the sorcerer, who could only save one, so he ate 9 damage and went back to the warp or wherever.  The terminator sergeant and his two remaining troops in the unit killed his warpsmith.

Turn 3 the other two terms died, but my sergeant passed leadership and I used his teleport homer to grab an objective I had placed it near, then let Lysander mop up.   He put TWELVE wounds on the defiler.  It blew up and took him down to one wound, but by then it was too late.

Elsewhere on the board, his second hellbrute dreadnought (with one wound remaining because of my constant sniper and bolter fire, and a 5-wound krak missile turn 1) faced off with my ironclad. On the same turn his defiler nearly killed Lysander, my dreadnought was defeated, but blew up and destroyed his dread, leaving him with one unit and 6 objectives on the board, my units controlling 4.

My first win with my Imperial Fists army, out of 4 that I've played since getting back into the game for the first time since like 2003, when I was in high school.  Feels good, man, especially against the Chaos Construction Zone Marines

Granted, I know things could have gone much worse if I hadn't rolled that 9 on the second attempted charge at that dreadnought.  Oh well, a victory is a victory!

tl;dr: The Fist of Dorn is insane

For the Emperor!

I've been eyeing him up for a couple of weeks now after realising how much potential he has as a close-combat monster so I'm gad he performed well for you.

I've had some rough dice rolls in my previous matches, but man.  2+ with re-rolls of 1, strength 10, 4 attacks on 3 dmg per wound, AP-3?  Just brutal.

Fortunately I wasn't contending with any low invulnerable saves from my opposition.  In a larger battle, I'd imagine I might teleport strike, use Bolter Drill with my accompanying shooty terminators, and see if I can soften up a target or two before charging and hoping for the best.  We shall see.  But he looks to be an ever-present moving forward.

Nice. It'd be cool to use my Lysander sometime, but since I don't really have much other IF units - the only thing painted so far being a Vindicator - I'd have to use CF/BT models as proxies for the rest of the list. Or other such means.

Played 2k points tonight against some Necrons.  Teleported near their character with Lysander and 6 shooty terminators, but couldn't close distance till turn 3, they kept running.  Got to em with 4 termies alive and mopped up a unit of 10 flayed ones and another unit of warriors.

My Ironclad mopped up another unit of warriors by himself, and I took down a Doom Scythe with my snipers and devastator squad.  Mortal wounds ftw!

I've been on the receiving end of Lysander, and it hurts.  My opponent was using the wrong Warlord trait, but even without that it woulda hurt.

How's your Ironclad equipped Big A?  I use two in pods and I adore them.  I've never tried footslogging one, though.

I use chainfist, hurricane bolter and melta, and if the points work out, ironclad assault launchers and as many hunter-killers as I can.

I've found my rolling lately on the HK missiles has been weak, however.  Same with the Ironclad Assault Launchers, and at a combined 11-17 points for items I use on average 3-4 times per match, I wonder about the value.  Then again, tactical marines with bolters seem so utterly useless, it's probably fine.

Then again, I bought a vindicator last night despite its current weakness, just because it looks cool and fluffy.  That's pretty much been my plan the whole time, tbh

He's an odd duck on paper.  Most HQ's have some valuable force multiplier skill, rather than the death star killing machines GW seems intent on moving away from.  Lysander, on the other hand, just seems like a really smashy, really hard to kill jawbreaker.  Or at least a +1 Leadership aura doesn't seem like something you would otherwise go out of your way to get into a list.  The only similar HQ seems to be the Emperor's Champion.
