Varvosts stock grew in Atratus' eyes. His action reckless but decisive and seemingly as surprising to his adversaries as his allies as shot after shot went wide of its mark.

A brief opening that now must be exploited. Atratus watched the movements of his battle brother, the preference of his blows from their practice sessions, looking for openings as if they were now sparring. The force of the charge, the twist, the feint before the blow, Atratus saw it before Thorvald and traced the arc down, his shot following a scant moment later as the space wolf was thrown off balance.

DM/Team

Across the closed comms system Atratus advised, "no sight of the others, they wait to close the trap. Sight the target and throw it from the room, let them make chase."

Just behind him their own skull hovered, a few steps away. Atratus had wondered at this choice of objective in the context of their mission but pushed such thoughts aside until the task was complete.

Half action aim, half action shot at Thorvald

Shot D100 = 16 vs BS 42. +30 for aim/accurate/range, -20 for shooting into combat = 4 degrees of success (torso)

Damage 3d10 = 7+4 = 11 damage, Felling, Pen 7.

Toughness test at -5 per damage(after armour/etc) or take 1d10 extra toxic damage.

Well - good shot, terrible damage. But it's all going to start adding up for poor Thorvald.

>>STRUCTURED TIME CONTINUES<<

Round 3 (Continued)

Thorvald takes 11 damage (Pen 7), Felling, Toxic to 61 (Body)

Armour 9 (Reduced to 2) and Toughness Bonus 4 reduce the damage by 6 to 5.

Toughness Test (-25) for Toxic: 21: 14 (PASS)

Faced with the Eradicator to his fore, Thorvald releases the frag cannon, the bulky weapon clattering to the floor. Almost instantly there is an astartes combat knife in the Space Wolf's fist. The blade, held below the fist, is inlaid with runic script that must hail from the fabled world of Fenris; runes that gleam in the light. Even as warning sensors and augurs in his armour flash in red and amber, he swipes at Vârvost.

Standard attack: WS42 +20 (Strongpoint): 24 (PASS) htting 42 (Body)

1D10+8 Damage (Pen 2) = 8+8 = 16

Vârvost will use his dodge, attempting to turn the blade sideways as it plunges for the vulnerable soft armour of the armpit.

Vârvost rolls Dodge (Ag42): 93 (FAIL)

Vârvost takes 16 Damage (Pen 2) to the Body

Armour 9 (down to 7) and TB8 reduce damage by 15.

Vârvost takes 1 wound

Seeing his chance, now that the heavy weapons of the other team had fallen silent, Tyber launches himself full force at Akkad.

Ooc:

Charge action at Akkad, TN: 54 (WS 44+10 Charge)

Arming Sword charge attack: 1d100 18 3 DoS

Hit location 81; Right Leg

Arming sword damage: 1d10+15 24 Pen 3

Armour: 8 (reduced to 5)

TB: 8

Damage: 11

Plan A:

Hooking Akkad’s right leg with his blade, Tyber continued his mantra of “Leg then head or chest, chest head.”, still this was something that felt wrong to him on a level. He had heard the tails of Astartest fighting Astartes from more senior members of the Dragons, but that had been so long ago that he thought them but legend.

Plan B:

Watching Akkad slide out of the path of his blade, Tyber  drew his chain blade from right side, prepared to use it in an attempt to parry a blow from Akkad.

The big marine came in on top of him, cold hard steel blurred into the light.  As soon as the huge Astartes loomed through the door on contrails of fire, burning ozone in his wake, Akkad muttered an apology to the massive cannon in his fists.  He dropped Cadence, his Mk VII plate growling as the enemy bore down.  Unlike his Wolf-brother his Combat knife was blank.  Forged from the highest quality steel.  It matched his mettle.  His bolt pistol was in his right hand, the knife in his left.

For a split-second, Akkad considered a textbook parry, but the angle Tyber had chosen left him with a longer window to defend himself that way. He tensed.

Akkad will use his Reaction to Dodge:

No modifier, AG 45 Target: 45

D100: 016 Success + 2 DoS

Akkad will use his final Fate Point to Invoke an Extra DoS = 1 Success + 3 DoS.

The attack is neutralised.

The Astral Claw twisted his whole body left, but the crates thrown in twisted under the feet of the Son of the Lion, his footing his immediate undoing - leaving the blade slapping uselessly from Akkad's own right greave.  Had Akkad not moved it earlier to dodge the Krak grenade, he might have been missing a kneecap.  Tyber had involuntarily tipped too far to his left and as always in war, a hair's breadth was enough.  He switched from Blue Squad Vox to private channel with a single blink - but now was not the time for bombast - he was a Veteran Sergeant and a Veteran teaches.  He was as sincere now as he had been to Atratus.  His emerald lenses were mirrored on the face-plate of the larger Marine.

+A good blow, but do not assume I am going to stand still while you carve me up.  You strike like you're hewing a servitor - focus!+

Squad Vox:

"Brother Atratus, I'm heading in for the Objective. Be on watch for Sabaan or Greysight as I make my way in."

With his two Jump Pack-equipped squadmates entering the breach and engaging the two visible heavy weapon marines, Solastion runs into the room in the wake of his squad mates and takes a quick look around the room...

Plan A:

Solasion will take a quick look around the room in an attempt to locate the Servo Skull and make a move towards it in an attempt to claim it. If Sabaan or Greysight are in possession of it, Plan B.

Plan B:

Solastion will look around for Sabaan or Greysight and attempt to charge them or fire his bolt pistol at them with a preference for targeting Sabaan since he's the most dangerous close-quarters combattant their demi-squad has, unless either of them are in possession of the Servo Skull at which point he will focus his attention on them.

If he can charge one or the other:

Weapon Skill 46 + 20 Charge = 66

CHARGE!: 1d100 94 swing and a miss.

If he can't charge but can shoot his bolt pistol at Sabaan > Greysight:

Ballistic Skill 49 + 10 (range?) = 59

Single Shot: 1d100 8 5 DoS

Damage Roll: 1d10+9 15 Explosive Damage, Pen 4

GM: Ack! Almost finished this post and the browser closed. I guess we'll see what the RNG has in store this time...

As Varvost and Tyber duel with Akkad and Thorvald, Solastion leaps up the steps into the enemy team's chamber. It take a fraction of a second to acclimatise before you see... nothing. There is no sign of either the Storm Son or the Iron Hand.

Vârvost attacks Thorvald using the Swift Attack talent.

Damage: D10(Flesh Render, Tearing) + 5 + SB(8)  - Flesh Render rolls 7,7,9

Damage: 9+5+8 = 22 (Pen 3)

Thorvald attempts to dodge: AG47: 56 (FAIL)

Armour 7 (Reduced to 4) and TB8 reduce damage to 10

Thorvald takes 4 critical damage: Pain Suppressant Dose 1/6 kicks in for 1D5 rounds: 4 Rounds.

Atratus slips away from his position now obscured by the swirling melee. Deception it would be then, good, the craft of the xenos they faced and so far had been unprepared. But would it be simple ambush or something more ambitious?

Team/GM

Atratus ducks back into the room seeking to obscure himself from the direct sight of the others, using his auspex scope and enhanced senses to scan the walls, floor, and ceiling for any signs of his brothers or access panels - sound in particular now that the roar of the heavy bolter had been dimmed, an astartes might seek to burst from the walls as would a genestealer but they would be far louder about it.

(I take it our skull is still present and accounted for when Atratus steps back?)

Edited as previously, this post was garbage, which is what happens when you don't get enough sleep...ahem.

Hazard warning flared in his vision as Thorvald was half-gutted by the Eradicator.

His fight with Tyber momentarily suspended as the big Marine recovered his poise and twisted his head.  He noticed from the corner of his eye, Varvost do the same.  A smile crept onto Akkad's face when he glanced past them both to see Solastion sweep the room.  A second of confusion in his stance betrayed what he was thinking.  A vox click, then another.  He could not hear what was said of course - but the audio relays in his helm swept the sounds up.

+Surprise...+ The vox carried the smile.  Knowing what had to be done, he slipped his pistol back to his waist, inverting the Combat Knife to point downwards so he lock around and under Tyber's shoulder.  Seeing the fury about to be unleashed upon him, he imitated the Lion on his pauldron and pounced on Tyber, ceramite squealing against ceramite as the two hulking warriors crashed together.

Drop out of Squad Mode and enter Solo Mode. Free Action.

He will Activate Solo Mode "Feat of Strength" increasing his SB from 10 to 14. Free Action.

+Surprise!+ Tyber heard from Akkad’s vox, watching his movements of Akkad’s chest Tyber knew what was coming. With a practiced twist of his left wrist and a side step to the right Akkad found himself exposed to the counter attack he must’ve known would follow.

+Is this what you meant by focus Brother Akkad...?+

The Astral Claw's face stilled a moment at the words, the swift and effective parry batting his arms away and forcing him back to just shy of a blade's length.  Akkad dropped into a crouch to recover from the failed clinch, left foot forward of his right, slightly turned in, the right itself was high on the ball of the foot, his legs less than a shoulder-width apart, left knee twisted slightly in, forming a defence for his groin, right bent forwards.  His hands coming back up together, Mantisae Religiosa, both hands level, right hand open, almost relaxed, left clutching the knife blade down,  elbows bent, head partly ducked.  His green lenses bored into Tyber's.

+Better, I'll admit.  Let us see how you dance...+ He kept his tone even.  The big Marine's riposte had not been angry or outraged.  It would seem that the Dragon was sporting with him - and this was a good sign - even if things went badly here now he supposed no bad blood would last.  So much like Ichoma...so hard not to like him.

Tyber smirks under his helm, it was hard not to see Akkad as an older brother or mentor, even harder to be swinging his blades against him, with both his arming sword and chainblade out Tyber entered a solid stances of a modified dimachaerus fighting style from ancient terra, that he had observed members of the Paladin Guard of his home chapter using, though their version was meant to be used with two double edged power swords. Holding his chainblade out in front for defensive swings while his arming sword was held point out above his head for offensive strikes, Tyber twisted his body to be three quarters onto Akkad.

+I will try to not disappoint.+ again the vox taking much of the levity from his tone.

+I will try to not disappoint.+

Akkad looked at the bigger, younger Marine with a piercing gaze, lancing out from behind the Verdanese lenses.  He appraised the posture of the other Astartes and could almost see the blond hair and smooth, fine features beneath the adamantium laminated ceramite plate.

His words, when they came were heavy and honest.  Words a younger Astartes should hear to make him right in the way of the Emperor's Finest.  Pomposity and bombast and fawning nonsense bred idiots like Arch Centurion Commodus.  The thought made his heart ache and his stomach sour.  He forbade that to colour his remarks to Tyber.  That was for another day.

+You have not done so yet.  Now, enough talk - Strike!+

Atratus' senses were ignited by the sudden prospect of guile, a challenge sorely lacking in the ships servitors. The missing techmarine suggested use of his skills in unlocking sealed panels or crawl-ways, and each sense strained to catch any sound out of place or errant movement as he swept his auger-scope across the room.

Seeing his gene-cousin get knocked to the deck by the Space Wolf, Solastion explodes into movement, his previous thoughts of acquiring the opposing teams servo-skull temporarily overridden by protector instincts engendered into him over his long years of service as an Apothecary and Sanguinary Priest.

That Varvost was of the same gene-lineage that he was certainly didn't help.

Solastion will Charge Brother Thorvald with his blunted chainsword drawn in an attempt to knock him out of this conflict.

Solastion should be able to Charge Thorvald with a maximum charge range of 12m (boo low agi).

CHARGE!: 1d100 89 Will use an FP to reroll this...

FP Reroll: 1d100 1 Well, it doesn't get any better than this. Thats a Headshot too. vs WS 69 (49 + 20 [Charge]) = 6 DoS

Chainsword Damage: 1d10+16 17 (I keep forgetting to roll tearing at the same time :| )

Tearing: 1d10 8

Total Damage: 8 + 16 (SB5 x2 + 2 [PA] + 1 [Hist] + 3 [Chainsword]) = 24 Rending Damage, Pen 3...to the head.

The storm drove metallic debris across the desolation. Their impacts mimicked the sound of heavy bolter fire. ++ Let's see how you dance...++ The feral servitors binary scream was lost among the blasts. Past and Present seemed in flux, fighting for attention over the feedback of his autosenses. Sabaan ignored both. It was almost ready. His preparations were almost complete. Subsonic Rotes of binaric benediction went between the measured rhythm of respirator breaths. His work would benefit the Clan, the Prima and the Omnissiah. Sacrifices had been made. He spared them little thought. Cogs turned. The mission was all that mattered. He watched the timer in his lower field of vision. It was all falling into place. He felt his servoarm twitch in anticipation. Myomerfibres at the side of what had been his mouth mimicked the motion. It was almost a grin. Just a a little closer.... just a little closer...

With a heavy sigh, Tyber speaks over his vox to Akkad:

+It seems this must be put to an end.+

Rolling his left wrist to be parallel with the floor, Tyber swings his chainsword in a wide sweeping motion across Akkad’s right thigh, looking to unbalance him as he brought down his arming sword in powerful blow to Akkad’s left thigh, moments before rolling his right shoulder to deliver a very powerful back swing to Akkad’s left leg again.

Akkad will take his Reaction and then his Action straight after as Solastion has already posted his and this is between me and Tyber. ;)

+It seems this must be put to an end.+ The younger Marine almost - almost sighed as he said it, as if he was regretful or possibly bored.  His swings were textbook and crashed against the braced hips and knees in a resounding clang of metal upon tortured metal.

He had been wounded sorely.

The armour let out a squeal of servo-mechanics and then pressure seals bit down.  Joints seized and feedback mechanics in all his augers flashed pain through bio-mechanic linkages, the man and machine both wounded sorely.  It was not as excruciating as the shot from Atratus, but the lights and shrieking stars burning themselves onto his optical nerve interface were almost enough, along with his limbs fighting the urge of his armoured coffin trying to bear him to the ground.

The first slash buzzed across his left thigh, then the Arming Sword - the Oathblade, dark and magnificent hewed into his right.  Akkad forced the stars out of his eyes and gritted his teeth.  He could hear the instructor in his head.

"Never repeat yourself and do not over-commit!"

His left hand, the hand holding the Combat Knife, scythed down to shear against the Arming Sword.  White lightning cleaved from it as the lamps blazed overhead, the only sound the hard breathing in his respirator, his world was filled with the big Marine ahead.  His reflex parried the third and most devastating blow that would have severed his knee.

Akkad takes 15 Wounds.  Akkad has 2 wounds left.  One, for each arm! :)

Akkad Parries the final Melee attack: Target 37

D100 Roll: 008.

The attack is negated.

Grunting, his chest heaving, the sparks die as they strike both his and Tyber's armour. He smiled wearily. He had been wounded sorely.  But he stood - barely, but he stood.  While I stand, I fight, while I fight I fear not, while I fear not, I stand.

+Yes Brother, let us put this to the end+

He drew himself up to as high as he could and ducking under Tyber's guard stuck him with a massive uppercut.  In the final seconds before connecting with Tyber's chin, the Big Marine saw a Krak grenade in the empty hand.

Akkad will use his action to Ready Grenade (Half-action) then will make an Unarmed Attack (Standard Attack, Half-Action) with the Grenade, primed, in his right fist.
Unarmed Melee Attack: 37-20 (Opponent is Armed) - Target 17: D100: 10
Damage Location: Head
Damage: 3D10+4 (Pen 6) = 1, 9, 10 = 20 (RF Confirmed D100: 17) + 10 (RF Not Confirmed D100: 19 - I am not making this up I swear before God) + 4 (Damage after Dice)
Total: 34 Pen 6 (Armour 8-6 = 2 + TB 8 = 10)
Wounds inflicted: 24.

Tyber cannot Dodge/Parry.

Tyber goes into Crit by 5. Akkad for all intents and purposes dies.

Just before his systems put him out completely, Akkad manages a final whisper to the bigger Marine, reeling from his unorthodox attack.  Not knowing where he was, only that a friend was in front of him.

+Faith is my sword+

To post quickly and forestall anything else, the gods of narrative will intercede.

Both Akkad and Tyber are "dead" - you are stuck within your entirely unmoving suits of armour, in the darkness, with the sounds of combat dim and distant. You are unable to affect anything, and are left alone with your memories (and regrets?)

Simulated warnin claxons inside his helmet made Solastion quickly glance over to where the Dragon and Lion were locked in combat and grunted at the sight he saw:

The Dragon, frozen with both swords to either side of him, his head knocked back from the Lions uppercut, the krak grenade still clenched in his fist.

The Lion, in an almost statuesque pose, his full weight and body freeze framed in the last second of his punch.

He had to hand it to him, he did make the best of a bad situation though the martyrdom would have to be questioned.

Through the sight of his sniper rifle, Atratus scans around his vicinity. There is no sign of the hidden Techmarine or the Storm Son. The Red servo-skull remains in place, hovering gently on its anti-gravitic motors.

Thorvald spends two fate points to restore 2D10 wounds: 5+6 (11) -4 Critical Damage = 7 Wounds remaining
Thorvald attempts to dodge Solastion's attack:

Thorvald takes 24 Damage (Pen3) to the head. TB8 reduces this to 16 - 9 Critical Damage to the Head.

As the Sanguinary Priest's chainblade stops just short of the Space Wolf's head - a blow that would have doubtless been fatal - the Space Wolf nods his respect.

"Well fought, brother."

There is a grinding of servo-motors as Varvost stands, his slab-faced helm betraying as little as the mask of scar tissue that serves as his face would.
