GM: Nice! Three things:

Thanks - was a relief I assure you!

Firstly, you've shown me that I've been doing Righteous Fury wrong (I made Greysight roll for it, rather than awarding it normally.) Thanks for that!

No problem!  If it helps I make my players confirm RF at all times - I roll that way. :tongue.:

Secondly - you hit, plus 7 DOS. The rulebook for Full Auto Burst says "If successful, the attack scores a hit normally. Furthermore, each Degree of Success scores an extra hit." - so you would do 1+7 hits, no?

No - the cap on this is the weapons' RoF.  Since my RoF is 6, I only get 1 hit from BS test success, plus 5 from 5 DoS and the other two are wasted - it just adds flashy narrative :smile.: - except I get my RoF increased by +1 for my Squad Mode, bringing my RoF to effectively 7 total from dice. Then the Auto hit from Explosive.  I could get 20 DoS and still only have 6 (+1) hits.

Although, if you want to give me an extra shot I'll take it GM

Thirdly - under Unrelenting Devastation (p.77) it says tat the extra 1D5 is "if using a weapon with the Blast Quality." - as Heavy Bolters aren't blast, you should do the extra point of damage to a Horde's Magnitude for each hit, yes?

No - "When the Devastator Marine successfully attacks and damages a Horde with a Heavy weapon, he deals an additional 1d5 damage to the Horde’s

Magnitude. This additional damage stacks with any other additional damage dealt to the Horde, such as damage from a Blast weapon or a Flame weapon.
This additional damage applies per attack, not per hit (so unless there are exceptional circumstances afoot, it will only apply once per Turn). If the
attack deals damage to multiple Hordes, the Marine chooses which Horde takes the extra damage."  FAQ 1.1.

Hope that helps?

+ Brother Akkad, perhaps we should switch Targets +

The comment from the Raptor was unexpected - made in the wake of a fine shot.  It was not perfect - but it had caused the creature to flail in agony.  Akkad would have given much to have such a marksman at his side in the past.  Atratus' incisive mind was as good as his rifle - the horde had been thinned.

+I concur brother - switching aim now.+

Cadence was still hungry.

THERE IS AN ageless concept which aligns the body and mind in perfect harmony. In the pre-Terran culture of the Nihon, mushin-no-shin, the mind without mind, encompassed this ideal. In the oral traditions of Chogoris, the Great Khan Jaghatai himself possessed the superlative skill of alakh geh, where intention and action were simultaneous, making the Great Khan himself a supreme killer. In the crude Gothic rendering, such a concept may be expressed as flow, a calm equanimity free of distraction.

Greysight had worked hard to cultivate the ideal of the alakh geh, partly as a means to overcome his limitations as a warrior. Of course, in this arena he was to all intents and purposes exceptional, but in his mind, he was merely average compared to the many astartes he had fought with over the years. Vârvost and Atratus were both timely reminders of a warrior's prowess. However, Greysight clung to the more ephemeral tradition of cultivating the warrior's spirit and attain alakh geh.

His chosen medium was his faith and skill in the Godwyn Mark Vb boltgun, that most iconic of weapons that safeguarded the Emperor's dominion.

With his right hand, Greysight disengaged a clip of the special Hellfire rounds generously provided by the Watch-Station's armourers and slammed the clip into place. With a murmured benediction upon his lips, Greysight pulled the bolter towards him and took aim, activating the mounted scope's preysense mode; rendering the alien horde as a constellation of heat returns.

The others could deal with the oncoming horde of lesser creatures. Greysight was only interested in the hulking warrior caste skulking behind them.

There.

A small cluster of organs above the torso. From over two hundred metres in the melee, they registered as tiny dots in a maelstrom of crimson thermal signatures. He recalibrated his aim, a point where a fleshy exposed neck met a bony, oversized mouth-plate.

Greysight took a breath and calmed his mental faculties, emptying it, like a river that dissipates into the ocean, becoming nothing at all.

Time slowed.

Time.

The mind without mind.

The Storm Son exhaled slowly as he depressed the trigger twice in quick succession. Two Hellfire rounds traced their way through the darkness, the boom of discharge ignored. Adjusting for gravity on its trajectory, the first Hellfire round cleanly punched through the fiend's rib-cage, splintering organic chitin armour, and revealing the vulnerable organs within. Already, mutagenic acid had splashed across its chest and began to dissolve the armour plating, for it was keyed by Imperial geneticists to wreak havoc on the genomic makeup of the tyranid. The second round detonated directly onto the organ cluster, eating away at the fleshy sacs, and the warrior-thing instinctively shrieked and jerked violently, involuntarily responding to the grievous harm the special rounds were reaping upon its form.

For a moment, the horde stuttered, the lesser tyranids hissing in confusion, as if wounding the larger organisms affected them all.

Interesting, thought Greysight, as he re-adjusted his aim.

The armsmen aren't going to last long at this rate...

Solastion redoubled his efforts to get into effective range for his weapons and bring the fight to the inhuman monstrosities that dared to attack the Emperors domain.

Solastion will activate Burst of Speed which increases his AgB by 2 from 3->5; due to being Hulking, AgB for calculating movement rates is increased by 1 to a total of 6.

This means Solastion will move 36m this turn with his Run Action.

Peaking his head above the make shift cover provided by the boxes, Tyber was impressed with the sight of Akkad’s handy work with his heavy bolter, seeing nearly a third of the little bio-forms exploding in bits of flesh and bone.

+ Brother Akkad, perhaps we should switch Targets + came the voice of the Raptor over the VoxNet followed by Akkad’s response of +I concur brother - switching aim now.+ Blink clicking, Tyber activated the command and control features of his Mk. VIII plate, unsure how the demi-squad would react to Tyber trying to focus the group into a more cohesive fire team, but he would give it a shot.

Using the Command and Control feature, Typer sent short video burst to the Akkad, Atratus and Sabban. In the hallway with Typer highlighting Akkad and Sabban first, drawing lines from both of them to the mass of small bio-forms, while a line from Atratus was drawn to the first of the Warriors with a final line drawn from Tyber to the one in the back, as he spoke +Brothers Akkad and Sabban, please focus fire on the smaller bio-forms, until annihilation, then switch targets to the first larger bio-form, finally focusing on the one trailing. Brother Atratus, please focus fire on the closer of the two larger bio-forms, once annihilated switch to the second one. I will move to engage the one at the back.+

Activating his Jump pack Tyber launched himself a full 60m down the hall, trying to close the gap as quickly as he can, trusting his brothers to have his back.

OOC:

put Tyber 60m further a head, from his current position.

GM: Slips' post has revealed that I've been calculating agility wrong for most characters this battle. I overlooked the sentence on page 27 that Space Marines improve their agility bonus for calculating movement by 1. As a result, I will award a second Burst of Speed to any Marine who has used it thus far in the mission.

KHYBER VAIDAN:

Another run action, another Burst of Speed, this time AG4+2 = AG6 = 36 metres.

ATRATUS:

Aim and Standard Attack at Warrior 4 with Sniper Rifle

Damage 1D10+4 (+1D10 for 2DOS) = 10(+5)+4+2 = 21 (Felling 1) (Pen 7)

Tyranid Warrior is TB10(5) and Armour 8(1), reducing Wounds to 15.

TYBER:

Moves 60m towards the Tyranid Warriors.

TYRANID WARRIOR 1:

Run (36 metres)

TYRANID WARRIOR 3:

GREYSIGHT:

BS40 + (10, SAB, 20, SIZE) = 48 (4 DoS)
Shot 1: 4+9 = 13 (TB10, Armour 8(0)) 3 damage
Shot 2: 8+9 = 17 (TB10, Armour 8(0)) 7 damage
Shot 3: 6+9 = 15 (TB10, Armour 8(0)) 5 damage

= 15 damage
AG test for As Swift as the Wind (AG43): 46 (FAIL)

NYCAX SABAAN:

Half Move and Standard Attack with Bolter (Semi-Auto, due to Recoil Baffling) against Lower Hormagaunt Horde

The maggot-like ammunition of the Devourer weapon-parasite fails to get much purchase against Tyber's Mk VIII armour, though you can feel the biting as you pull one out of the shallow burrow-hole it is gnawing into your pauldron and crush it between your fingers.

Just making you didnt forget to move solastion forward on the map! since He's done 2 run actions; one with burst of speed for a total of 60m over those two rounds (24+36).

Otherwise, Solastion keeps on sprinting forward for a Run Action this turn, moving 24m since hes out of Bursts of Speed.

As he kept running forward as fast as he could, in the distance, Solastion saw Varvost land among the teeming Hormagaunt horde and started hacking into their chitinous bodies with his Chainaxe causing gore and ichor to go flying all about him; a veritable exemplar of the more brutal tendencies of the Angel's sons.

He was yet too far to do anything effectively but, at the very least, Varvosts intervention would distract the Tyranids for long enough that the Mortal crew would be able to retreat and adopt a supporting role to the Kill-team.

His visor was full of the gaunts.  He spared a glance to where Tyber battled, one-on-one.  These lesser beings had to be stopped and Tyber had to be supported in his mad charge, lest he be overwhelmed.  Not here.  Not today.

The enemy were just shy of point-blank range and Akkad hissed a curse that became akin to a prayer that no-one save the Emperor and he heard.

Akkad remains in Squad Mode/Chapter Mode.

He will use Full Action: FA Burst at the Horde of Hormagaunts that are nearly chewing on his knees.

BS 47 +10 (Short Range) +10 (Horde Mag) + 20 (Full Auto) = 87

D100 Roll: 001. Success + 8 DoS.

Damage: 2D10 (Tearing) + 12 (Damage) +2 (Mighty Shot)

Pen:  All shots resolved at Pen 5.

1st Hit: 20

2nd Hit: 19

3rd Hit: 24 (RF Confirmed) + 5 = 29

4th Hit: 16

5th Hit: 24 (RF Confirmed) + 10 (RF Confirmed) + 9 = 43

6th Hit: 24 (RF Confirmed!) + 1 = 25

7th Hit: 15

Explosive: 9

Total Damage: 176

Unrelenting Devastation: 1D5 = 3

Flesh stood no chance against that wall of burning steel, even the hardy chitin of these monstrosities.  He could feel it as the hot slime slapped wet and jelly-like against his metal skin.  His armour growled at the outrage of it even as the heavy bolter churned meat into paste, a charging horde into even further red ruin.

OOC:

Target Number: 65 (WS 45+20 Balanced from Chain Sword)

Parrry test vs Warrior #4: 1d100 25

That means I don’t eat what was starting to look like 1D10+1 (after all deductions were in place)

His HUD flashed red, drawing Tyber’s attention to the large scythe like blade swinging down on him, with a reflexive reach with his left hand he drew his chainsword and turned the blade away moments before it struck his leg.

From where he was, he could see a second wave of the little beasts on their way in, he had to finish this fight quickly and try to get this hall locked down. Over the Vox network to the whole squad, Tyber announced “A second wave inbound.” With that out of the way, he set about attempting to cut this beast down.

Should it not parry anything:

Seeing the beast fall, Tyber turns his attention towards the control system, getting ready to leap towards it to engage the shutters, to save the rest of the ship.

"A second wave inbound."

Vaidan bit back a curse as he continued his run towards the Tyranid horde. He snarled.

"And the second wave shall be obliterated like the first. We are His Angels of Death, victory shall be ours!"

Turning his attention to the beleaguered Armsmen, the Novamarine activated his helm's amplifiers.

"Armsmen of the Navy, stand firm and deliver the Emperor's righteous fury unto these vile beasts! Suffer not the Alien to live!"

Vaidan continues to sprint fowards.

If possible, I'd like to make a Command/Fellowship test with Vaidan targetting the Armsmen and Commissar in an attempt to raise their spirits and make them fight harder and/or to the last.

Fellowship test to avoid losing Cohesion

Target: Vaidan's Fel = 55

Roll: 1d100 -> 8 (PASS + 4 DoS)

Command test to influence Armsmen

Target: Vaidan's Fel +10 = 65

Roll: 1d100 -> 89 (FAIL + 2 DoF)

GM: Dos, Vaidan needs to pass a Fellowship challenge to avoid the Kill-Team losing 3 points of cohesion from the Horrifying effect of the Tyranid Warriors. You can also do a Command test on your Fellowship (including your +10) to influence the Armsmen. Edited by Commissar Molotov

THE BEAST CONTINUED to thrash violently. What would otherwise be a fatal shot had wounded, but not killed it outright. Greysight fired another burst but failed to rupture the exposed organs as the beast jerked unpredictably. Still, the mutagenic acid continued its work, melting hardened chitin carapace to expose soft, fleshy innards.

Greysight glanced away from the thermal signatures of the scope and quickly assessed the situation, looking for new priority targets. Two other hulking monstrosities were unharmed, and another wave of tyranids swarmed behind them. Ahead in the distance, Vârvost had finally closed the gap and began hacking away at the tide of lesser tyranids to aid the beleaguered armsmen.

Sergeant Vaidan, the apothecary Solastion and Thorvald had moved ahead swiftly into the enveloping darkness to bolster the line.

One more burst, thought Greysight, and the beast would be his.

The order was unexpected. Already prepared to jump forward Atratus activated his mag-boots and pulled himself back into firing position ignoring the rapidly approaching smaller creatures.

The xenos' movements had increased greatly in speed as it slashed at Tyber but bringing its sword up to block one of the astartes blows it was held, briefly, as it matched its strength against Tybers own. Atratus took that moment to fire catching the warriors outstretched arm and blowing the weapon from its grasp - an opening he did not doubt Tyber would take quick advantage of.

As per post in OOC.

Re-roll to avoid hitting tyber in the back of the head = d100 = 72

Hit with no degrees of success (BS 42, +20 aim, +10 range, +20 size, -20 combat = target 72)

Damage as per original rolls, rending arm wound, 10 total damage after armour/toughness becomes 5 critical damage - warrior loses its weapon, suffers blood loss and d5 levels of fatigue damage

Parrry test vs Warrior #4, target number 54 (44 WS+10 Balanced): 1d100 58

fail,  melee beating this time....

Watching the beast take yet another swing at him, this time how ever it seemed to be putting all of it's weight into the swing, a death throw if one would think it was capable of such thoughts.

Vaidan halted just below the massive doors. He would not allow the Tyranids to go any further. After observing Greysight's shots at one of the Warriors and the damage his hellfire ammunition did, the Novamarine unslung his boltgun and let loose a shot at another of the larger Tyranid beasts.

Headshot.

A feral smile stretched from ear to ear.

Hidden Content

Vaidan readies his boltgun (half action) and selects hellfire shells (free action).

Single shot (half action) at Tyranid Warrior #3

Target: BS42 + Size 20 = 62

Roll: 1d100 -> 20 (PASS)

Hit Location: Head (02)

Damage: 1d10+9 (Tearing) -> 9+9-> 19

RF Damage: 7

25 damage - TB10 = 15

It quickly vanished as Vaidan glanced at his HUD display, noticing the layout of his squad. The unit, his unit, was scattered, unsychronised, unfocussed. This would not do.

Remember: Frag Grenades destroy hordes and have a hard time hurting you as a Space Marine. So just pulling the pin and letting them explode in your fists (or dropping them at your feet) is viable! :tongue.: Also, Bolt Pistols are explosive and can be used in CC if you single-shot them (2 hits vs a Horde) if your BS is better than your WS.

Almost there... He thought as the raced ever onwards as he overtook the Watch-Sergeant who had begun firing his bolter. Seeing the Commissar meet his demise at the hand of the xenos, Solastion felt a small pang of regret at the loss of human life but it was a fleeting thing due to having witnessed the same scene thousands of times before and on scales that would shatter the mortal mind.

Concerned was what he felt next as he saw another teeming horde of chittering mouths and chitinous bodies flood the hallway and join their blasphemous comrades.

As he ran forward he prepared a Frag Grenade clenching it tightly in his left hand, then suddenly from his right, he saw yet another mass of the Gaunt-type strain of Tyranids make their way towards them. Seeing Brother Thorvald potentially caught off-guard and unable to properly make use of his heavy weapon before they surrounded him, he made a split-second decision.

Solastion turned himself towards them mid stride, forcing himself to slow down, the servos and muscle fiber-bundles in his legplates and especially ankles protesting loudly as his massive inertia was suddenly diverted.

Once reoriented, he tossed the frag grenade that was in his grip at the horde.

Frag Toss: 1d100 51 vs BS49+30 (size) = 2 DoS

Damage: 2d10+2 18 Explosive Damage, Pen 0.

Due to the frag grenade having the Blast (4) quality means that the horde is automatically hit 4 times. In addition, due to being explosive damage this also inflicts an additional hit for a total of 5 automatic extra hits:

Blast (4) + Explosive extra hits vs Horde: 5#2d10+2 8 9 11 15 13

Total Damage dealt: 74 Pen 0 Explosive damage and 6 Magnitude damage (this could be 5 because I might be miscounting something)

Additionally, since a standard attack is only a half-action, Solastion will make a half-move towards the south-relative-to-him horde; moving 4m towards them.

From the corner of his eye, Vaidan noticed that the previously empty connecting corridor was now filled with yet another chitinous horde.

"Varvôst, fall back now! You're being cut off and isolated! We cannot afford to lose you to this cursed horde!"

He hoped the authority and urgency in his voice would make the Eradicator act rationally.

On phone, no colours.

I'd like to make a Command test to make sure Varvôst complies with Vaidan's order to fall back.

Target: Fel 55 + Command 10 = 65

Roll: 1d100 -> 5 (PASS)

(used dice roll app)

"Thorvald, move backwards a few steps to give me a clear line of sight to the Tyranids in the connecting corridor!"

Hidden Content
No Command test here, Thorvald shouldn't need persuading given his position and the incoming horde.

The Novamarine then looked at his HUD to see what the situation was in the second corridor.

"Sabaan, Akkad, Atratus, Tyber. Finish off the remaining bioforms and regroup. Move towards the connecting corridor and attack from the rear. Make haste, brothers! We won't be able to hold for long against such numbers!"

Hidden Content
Again, Command test to make sure they comply.

Target: 65

Roll: 87 (FAIL)

Use Fate Point (down to 2).

Roll: 82 (FAIL)

Tyber grunted in time with the whine of the servo motors in his right leg as the scythe like blade slammed home, the beast had connected yet left it's self open to a punishing counter attack, one that he would capitalize on. Taking a breif moment to respond to his Sargent, while re-balancing himself and positioning himself for a solid strike back +Affirmative, Sargent.++

Akkad heard the order from Vaidan as the Tyranid creature swiped at him, doing little more than scratching his paint.  With one boot he unceremoniously pinned the small creature by one leg, batting away it's claws, which would have opened up a lesser man.  In a swift motion he reached for a frag grenade....

Akkad remains in Squad Mode (and seriously suggests others join him!)

Holding the Heavy Bolter one-handed by the carrying grip, he will use half action: Ready Grenade and Half Action: Standard Attack - Grenade:
BS 47 +0 (Horde Mag is now less than 10 nd no range or Fire Mode modifiers) = 47.
D100 Roll: 23

Weapon: Frag Grenade

Pen: All attacks Pen 0

4th Hit: 17
Explosive: 10 (RF Confirmed) +1 = 15

Total: 68

Attacking Horde with a Blast Weapon: Unrelenting Devastation 1D5 = 3 Mag Damage

The shrapnel device rolled under the creature from a swift flex of the Marine's wrist, clanking onto the deck, once, twice, thrice.  The creature barely acknowledged it, but Akkad's boot held it in place, which drew the most ire.

"Die!" He snarled openly, as finally the mob of creatures was destroyed.  His hand wedded back to the grip of the weapon, armour systems meshing once more in targeting reticules, that played over the forms of the enemies still standing.  He blinked a reply to Vaidan, a gruff acknowledgement, copying it to the rest of the team via noospheric uplink.

Does he think I'm going to disobey him? The Astral Claw was momentarily nonplussed.  Still, that did not matter now.  There were more aliens to kill.

GM: How tall are these corridors?

EDIT: Corrected Damage.

Barely a handful of the smaller creatures had survived the gauntlet, Atratus holding his position as nearby Akkad swatted away the last of them. Through his scope he could see the second wave already veering away and wondered if the xenos had found purchase in the upper corridor.

Tyber seemed to have his opponent well in hand, "brother Sabaan, advise we focus fire on the remaining xenoform and advance upon the breech". His next shot landed cleanly against the carapace of the warrior, each in turn teaching him more about the xenoforms biology and weaknesses, though the creatures proved sturdy even against such deep wounds.

The comm signal from Vaidan confirmed Atratus's thoughts that xenos were pushing their assault in the other corridor and he acknowledged the message, prepared to advance.

Aim and fire on warrior 5 - leave 4 for Steel

D100 to hit = 13 vs target of BS 42+20 aim+10 range+20 size = more than 4 DoS

3d10+4 damage = 24+4

Total damage after armour & toughness = 22 wounds

Will join squad mode with Akkad - had thought I was already in it as you can't enter squad mode solo normally
