OOC: Round 4 action

Raising his chain blade to level with the beast, while bringing his arming sword above his head, ready to deliver a series of killing blows to the beast, he wanted to savor this moment, but knew that time was working against them here.

Hit Left Leg (2 DoS)

Tyber let out a punishing series of attacks against the left side of the beast, first to the arm with the chain blade, followed up with a solid blow to the body, with the back swing of the arming sword directed to the left leg of the beast.

OOC:

Chainsword damage: 1d10+13 18

chainsword tearing: 1d10 4

Damage 18, Pen 3

A FLASHING RUNE on Greysight's internal helm display indicated the depleting number of Hellfire rounds available. The ammunition was rare and was to be used sparingly, but Greysight had not anticipated the presence of so many priority targets in the initial wave. Depressing a switch on his boltgun, the ammunition toggled from the special Hellfire rounds to the conventional type that exploded on impact. The Hellfire’s mutagenic acid had done its work, and a few well aimed shots would kill the thrashing beast. Greysight had a good angle, firing three times in quick succession. The first and second rounds shredded an arm that had attempted to deflect the fusillade, but the third found its mark, piercing vital organs and ending the warrior caste tyranid with one final, high pitched screech.

There was no time to acknowledge the kill. Greysight lowered his bolter as he assessed the situation once again. The others had rushed forward towards Vârvost, whose intervention to save the armsmen left him surrounded by a swarm of clawed fiends. One of the other warrior caste had engaged the Eradicator in a desperate frenzy. Despite all appearances, Vârvost had the advantage, using his jetpack to manoeuvre around the tyranid warlord’s deadly blades, and a chain-axe to dissect the beast one limb at a time, with almost casual indifference.

The Space Wolf, Thorvald, was economically mowing down the lesser tyranids with the aid of his frag cannon, and the remaining naval armsmen. It wouldn’t last though, more of the scything things were filling the corridor in impressive numbers, the clack-clack-clack of chitin claws merged with their ceaseless screeching in a disorienting cacophony, no doubt intending to isolate and overwhelm the Imperial defenders.

Greysight’s helm receiver crackled into life. It was Vaidan.

‘Move towards the connecting corridor and attack from the rear. Make haste, brothers! We won't be able to hold for long.’

A series of blips acknowledged the order.

Too far behind, thought Greysight, placing his faith in Vârvost’s abilities, and launching into a full sprint towards the others.

As a major artery in the inner workings of a warship, the corridors along the dorsal spine of the Voice of Thunder had never been anything an observer would have described as "serene"

Yet it's tall gothic arcs and interspersed columns had been a testament to the strength of the Imperial Navy and the unshakable dominance of the heavens by the Imperium of Man. Along the ceiling, faded frescoes bore witness to the ship's victorious actions in ages past. Recurring auto-shrines devoted to the God-Emperor of Mankind and Saints invoked in the protection of those who crossed the void in His service had still turned even minor errands along the spine into a pilgrimage in His name.

Now, it was a vision from a nightmarish nether-realm through which multi-limbed mockeries of the blessed human form raged.

The Astartes had countered the blasphemous Horde with blade and Boltgun. Numbers rolled down his field of vision. The screeching mass of xenoforms had still reached them. Sabaan had methodically continued firing until a wave of claws and teeth rose up in front of them. The wretched things were of one mind, stabbing, biting, seeking a weak spot among his warplate while others attempted to distract him. The Techmarine shifted his weight, turned slightly waded into the mass, an ebon rock on which the wave of flesh broke. Teeth gnawed on the vambrace of his cybernetic arm. Claws splintered against the ceramite of his leg guard. Here, the Creed was vindicated as flesh failed in the face blessed Iron. His servoarm swung around him, crushing skulls, breaking bones. Concussive blast and fragmentation shards sheared others from his back and shoulders. from. He shook a dying gaunt from his arm and let the broken xenos drop away. His Armour purred as it once more brought ruin to the enemies of Clan and Chapter. He continued his advance. Cartilage broke. A wet sucking sound. Up ahead, Tyber was hacking into a larger warrior form. The Flesh was weak. Xenos Flesh was no different.

His Augur pinged. Another wave of creatures appeared, filling his autosenses with a new flood of angry red markers

"Sabaan, Akkad, Atratus, Tyber. Finish off the remaining bioforms and regroup. Move towards the connecting corridor and attack from the rear. Make haste, brothers! We won't be able to hold for long against such numbers!"

"Compliance."

The Iron Hand continued his advance and began the re-assessment of his targeting priorities. His sensory cluster also recorded his surroundings. Deep scratches along the walls. Acidic spray marks. Spreads of alien ichor. A shredded devotional banner. A now faceless idol of the sainted Rohr. Simulus Data. Here and now, all this was irrelevant. Only the objective mattered. Focus. Purge. Acquiring target..

"Brother Sabaan, advise we focus fire on the remaining xenoform and advance upon breech."

"Acknowledged."

Sabaan had finished his projections. In response, he began ex-loading the adjusted firing protocols to his Demi-clave. No force in the galaxy performed an advance under fire like the Iron Hands. He had his Boltgun trained on the warrior form. His sensorium added distance, local gravity, projectile velocity... A rune blinked. +Exload complete+

"Deploy and Exterminate."

Igniting his jump pack Atratus leaps forward to join Tyber by the cross passage. The smaller creatures might be trying to draw them away, but Akkad and Sabaan still held the line and neither the risk of the second corridor being swamped nor the order to regroup could be ignored.

Beyond the scene was chaotic with Varvost all but buried beneath the horde and the others spread out firing into the mass and the larger creatures within.

Burst of speed and the jump pack gives Atratus a run distance of 156 meters - he'll come down north of Tyber ready to advance into the other section, chainsword at the ready, and on the watch for any fire from the down but possibly not out warrior.

Pilot - personal if required = 61 (vs target 65) - just about a pass

Join squad mode as a free action with Tyber in range - cohesion test, roll equal or under cohesion = 2 (vs target ??) - likely a pass with the fate points being thrown around

In this moment Solastion was truly and well torn as to where his ultimate loyalties and priorities lay.

Come to the aid of the Space Wolf whilst the other half of the Kill-Team made its way to him at the cross section thus surrounding the Gaunts and obliterating them in a Hammer & Anvil attack.

Or would he come to the aid of, despite being a stranger, a gene-cousin and fellow son of Sanguinius who was possibly lost to the throes of the Red Thrist as he battled the xenos.

+

++

+++

He charged into the teeming mass of teeth and claws that was tearing through the remaining group of armsmen; making his way to what passed for the closest link to his Chapter.

Solastion will charge into the Gaunts attacking the beleaguered armsmen and starts swinging with his chainsword.

Charge!: 1d100 28 vs WS46 + 30 (magnitude) + 10 (Charge)  = 28 vs 86 for 5 DoS for 1 hit + 2 extra from the DoS.

Chainsword Damage 1: 2#1d10+16 17 19; taking the 19 (tearing)

Chainsword Damage 2: 2#1d10+16 20 17; taking the 20 (tearing)

Chainsword Damage 3: 2#1d10+16 19 17; taking the 19 (tearing)

Visibly the beast Vaidan had targeted wasn't amused by his hellfire bolts to the head and responded in kind. The biomass hit his ceramite-encased legs with a splat followed by a hiss. Amber warning runes flashed on his HUD, showing Vaidan what he already knew: this beast had to die.

Despite the proximity of the horde of lesser Tyranids, the Novamarine pointed his boltgun at the Warrior and, disgusted by its mere presence and its audacity to retaliate, let loose a storm of hellfire rounds with the aim of ending its miserable existence.

GM: Work computer, proper formatting and map to come later.

TYBER (ROUND 4):
Close combat attacks kill Tyranid Warrior 4.

TYRANID WARRIOR 2:
Swift Attack against Varvost.
GM: I have realised that I haven't been taking into account the 'multiple arms' trait to add another attack to the Swift attack action against Varvost and Tyber. Correcting that now!

Attack 1: WS55: 1 (HIT - HEAD)
Damage 1D10+12+2: 3 (18, Pen 2)
Varvost has TB8 and Armour 8(6)
Varvost takes 4 wounds
Attack 2: WS55: 3 (HIT - HEAD)

Varvost has TB8 and Armour 9(7)
Varvost takes 0 wounds
Varvost is now at 14/24 Wounds

KHYBER VAIDAN:
GM: Dos, the Bolter is not a Full-Auto weapon in Deathwatch - the revised stats for weapons are available in the free errata: LINK
SEMI-AUTO BURST against Warrior 3 (Hellfire Rounds)
Using your revised rolls, 17 damage reduces it to 18/48 wounds.

ATRATUS:
Cohesion Test is a PASS (against current Cohesion of 6)
Just to clarify - Ag6(7) plus Burst of Speed to 8(9) gives you a run of 54, doubled by jump pack to 108? (Which is still enough to get next to Tyber - but if you can show me what I'm missing that would be awesome. Is it something to do with the Mk6 armour?)

LOWER HORMAGAUNT HORDE:
Charge action against Thorvald and Solastion

Attack against Thorvald: WS45+10: 78 (MISS)

Attack against Solastion: WS45+10: 40 (HIT)
Damage: 2D10+3+2 (Pen 2) to the 04 (HEAD): 2,6 = 13

24 Wounds to Tyranid Warrior 3 - KILL

NYCAX SABAAN:
GM: Xin, I will take "deploy and exterminate" to mean you are advancing and doing another Semi-Auto Burst using Recoil Baffling.

Half-move and semi-auto burst against Tyranid Warrior 5
BS51 (+10 SAB) = 50 (HIT, 1 DoS)
1 HIT: 1D10+9 (Pen 4): 7 (16)

GM: Slips, part of the vagaries of playing online means we've collided somewhat, so I'm going to do this - the lower horde that charged you did 0 damage, so I'm imagining you wading through them almost heedless. I will allow you to charge the upper horde, but the lower horde will get one more free attack on you. I will then resolve your attacks.

SOLASTION ALBIKUS:
Leaves combat with Lower Hormagaunt Horde, who get a free attack:

WS45: 37 (HIT)
Damage 2D10+3+2 (Pen 2) to the Right Leg: 8+6 = 19
Solastion has TB8 and Armour 8(6): 5 Damage
Solastion is at 18/23 Wounds

CHARGE into Upper Hormagaunt Horde
Charge!: 1d100 28 vs WS46 + 30 (magnitude) + 10 (Charge) = 28 (5 DoS)

Hit 1: 19 Damage against TB3, Armour 3(0) does 1 Magnitude Damage
Hit 2: 20 Damage against TB3, Armour 3(0) does 1 Magnitude Damage

Hit 3: 19 Damage against TB3, Armour 3(0) does 1 Magnitude Damage

The Upper Horde is now at Magnitude 38.

NAVAL ARMSMEN:
WS30 against Upper Hormagaunt Horde (+30, Magnitude): 99 (FAIL)

UPPER HORMAGAUNT HORDE:
Swift Attack against Varvost:
Attack 1: WS45: 89 (MISS)
Attack 2: WS45: 17 (HIT)
Attack does 3D10+3+2 (Pen 2) to the 71 (Right Leg): 9,7,2 : 23 (Pen 2)
Varvost has TB8 and Armour 8(6): 9 Damage
Varvost is now at 5/24 Wounds

Swift Attack against Naval Armsmen:
Attack 1: WS45: 34 (HIT)
Attack does 3D10+3+2 (Pen 2): 10,7,3: 25 (Pen 2) : 1 Magnitude Loss
Attack 2: WS45: 55 (MISS)

Swift Attack against Solastion:
Attack 1: WS45: 30 (HIT)
Attack does 3D10+3+2 (Pen 2) to the 03 (HEAD): 8,1,6: 20 (Pen 2)
Solastion has TB8 and Armour 8(6): 6 Damage
Solastion is now at 12/23 Wounds
Attack 2: WS45: 43 (HIT) to the 34 (BODY): 1,2,1: 9 (Pen 2)
Solastion has TB8 and Armour 10(8): No Damage

Thorvald Hammerhand:
Thorvald will roll a Cohesion Check to join Squad Mode (6 or less): 4 (SUCCESS)
Thorvald will then DISENGAGE as a full action to retreat nearer to Vaidan.

THE REMAINING TYRANID warlord spat its organic cannon straight onto the sergeant, though its lethal payload would find ceramite bonded power armour considerably more resistant than unaugmented human flesh. Snarling oaths, Vaidan turned towards the creature and unleashed a payload of his own at it, pulverising the creature’s hardened carapace.

Seeing the Novamarine’s counter-attack, Greysight slowed to walking pace towards them both, toggling the Hellfire rounds once again and bracing the bolter with an efficiency borne of years of practice. The Storm Son fired three rounds into the beast, the preysense scope was no longer necessary, and the range was considerably shorter. There was a familiar shriek as chitinous bone was vapourised, accompanied by the satisfying sizzle of mutagenic acid eating into the vulnerable organ clusters beneath. A primordial, moaning wail was followed by the beast's final, thrashing death throes.

At the death of one of their leaders, the swarm of lesser tyranids lost their momentum, momentary confusion sowing their pack instinct to kill, but it was barely enough to stem the tide.

OOC: I've split my original post into two, and added my appendum to reflect GM's calculations in turn 5 which in fact kills Tyranid Warrior 3 outright. My original post narratively incorporated the end of turn 3, all of turn 4 and 5, which I rolled earlier because of scheduling conflicts IRL.

Semi-Auto Burst against Tyranid Warrior 3

BS40+10(SAB)+20(Size)= 70:  29 (4 DoS, 2 Extra Hits)

"Deploy and Exterminate."

Akkad turns his head slightly to regard Sabaan.  He smirked beneath his helm and pulled the trigger as soon as Cadence levelled.

Turn 5

Akkad will remain in Squad Mode and attack Tyranid Warrior 5 with a Full Auto Burst and finish it off.

BS 47 +20 (FAB) +10 (Close Range) + 20 (Size of enemy) = 97

D100 Roll: 53 Success + 4 DoS = 5 hits.

Damage: 2D10 (Tearing) + 12 (Damage) +2 (Mighty Shot)

Pen:  All hits resolved at Pen 5.

Location 1: Body

Damage: 23 - (TB 10 + Arm 3) = 10

Location 2: Body

Damage: 16 - (13) = 3

Location 3: Left Arm

Damage: 22 - (13) = 9

Location 4: Head

Damage: 24 (RF Confirm) + 10 (RF Confirm) + 9 = 43 -(13) = 30

Location 5: Right Arm

Damage: 22 - (13) = 9

Total after deductions: 61

The smoke wreathed around him like a cloak, the warm embrace of wrath.  He inclined his head a little more towards the Iron Hand.

"Compliance." He said flatly, his voice as chill and icy as Sabaan's own, although more human in effect.

Hefting Cadence in both hands he started to run...

Turn 6

Akkad drops in Solo Mode and as Free Action activates Burst of Speed, increasing his AG stat by 2 and giving him 42m of movement.

It was a lightning quick impulse to activate his magboots as he ran up the wall, his Lyman's Ear an gyroscopic stabilisers in his greaves - adapted for void combat - supported his idiosyncratic shift in weight.  He flattened out his run and adjusted to the top heavy lope he had to now endure, but it did not matter.  He grinned.  He remembered an old lecture on ship-to-ship.  He kept going even though he was now on the ceiling.

"Your orientation in the void means nothing - it is best to think of the enemy's gate as down."

MR.

He was getting better with his landings, yet between the thunderous crash to the deck, arming sword swings and fire from jump pack Tyber had all but scattered the smaller bio-forms before him, preventing them from swarming the Wolfson.

OOC: Round 6, to be moved later

Tyber wasted no time, and set about hacking and slashing at the small beasts, trying to clear out the horde as fast as possible, before they can try to overrun the Wolfson and link up with their brood-mates.

Dance 'o' death time again...

WS target # 44

All hits resolved at Pen 3, Rending

chain sword attack: 1d100 20

Hit with 2 DoS, depending on interpretation that could be 3 hits or two hits...

arming sword attack: 1d100 9

Hit with 3 DoS, depending on interpretation that could be 3 or two hits...

arming sword swift attack: 1d100 20

Hit with 2 DoS, depending on interpretation that could be 3 hits or two hits...

Tyber's chainsword is swigging at 1d10+13 to damage with the arming sword at 1d10+15, that should be more than enough to overwhelm the 'gaunts TB..

Mag damage is either 6 or 9, depending on interpretation.

His blades danced left, right , down and back, bone and flesh were no match for the raw might of the Emperor's Finest.

Akkad's breath was a touch strained as he loped along, upside down in his eccentric charge.  He watched the play of his brethren in his visor, admiring and appreciating.  The best of the best had turned the tide.  The enemy was dying and they were on the cusp of success.  He patched through to the Novamarine.

+My Sergeant, once we're clear of these doors, lock them, these aliens die here and now at our hands.+  His tone made it more of a suggestion than anything else.  He stepped smartly over an illumen strip and a bunched pair of gargoyles.

60 metres and I'm there.....just a little farther...

It IS KNOWN that not much is known at all, especially when the White Scars were concerned. In the oral traditions of Chogoris, passed down century by century, from Legion to Chapter to Ordu, all of Jaghatai’s gene-line famously eschewed what he called ‘avoiding the centre'. It attracted too much attention, and attention could be used as a weapon against us. Even in the days before the Great Betrayal, the Khan pushed his sons beyond into the unknown, faster and broader than anyone else before, or since, much as we do now, though we have no longer have the strength of better ages.

General ignorance of the White Scars in those earliest days was a byproduct of Chogorian culture, and then carefully nurtured by the Great Khan himself. Unlike the snakes of Alpharius who deliberately cloaked themselves in deceit, the Fifth wilfully abandoned the painful bureaucracy of the fledgeling Imperium to roam ahead. No one simply bothered to give any attention to the sons of Jaghatai until it was too late.

There is a famous pre-Terran adage: knowledge is power, guard it well. Whilst the rest of the empire gradually prunes and censors inconvenient truths; to keep our populations safe from the temptations of the yaksha, or to promulgate the church, or simply as a means of control, we of the Fifth carefully guard the truth of things. We do not agree with these methods but the alternative is too horrific to contemplate and we have enough enemies at our doors.

Our allies and enemies know little of us, but we know much about them, and we use that knowledge to our advantage. In the age of glory, our gene-father, the Great Khan Jaghatai held close counsel with three of his brothers: the wolf, Lupercal, the Crimson King, and the Angel. Before madness split the galaxy, they squabbled and bickered as brothers do - even the greatest of all the Emperor’s sons were still men at their core.

Of the Angel and the sons of blood, it was said that their melancholy masked a deeper darkness. How many have looked but not seen? And we have seen things over the many years. We have seen glimpses of a greater curse that the sons of blood contain through will alone, and we admire them for it, for when the passion takes, some of us abandon the Great Khan’s teachings and are cast into shame, to live out their lives as sagyar mazan - the death squads that engenders our own reputation for brutality.

Not us then. Nor Lupercal’s Wolves who sinned in their false idolatry, nor the Crimson sons whose folly lay in their own hubris. No, only the bloodline of the Angel has the moral strength to resist whatever darkness lurks in their hearts. Perhaps, they are the most human of us all, and that is why we hold our cousins in such high regard.

It is this quality I see in my brother Vârvost. My short time with him has revealed much. A stone killer he is, but his cause is just and the noble strength of Sanguinius flows his pitted and scarred visage, just as it does through the sculpted features of Solastion. He is a warrior of superlative skill, and his intervention to save the armsmen not only bought them precious moments to deliver the Emperor’s fury to the unclean, but created a defensive line that otherwise would have overwhelmed us all.

I watched as he battled the last of the warrior brood, striking at the ugly thing with a grace that belied a cold fury encased in a will of iron. Another pass through, before my brother was caught by a feint that he could not parry. Malign intelligence gleamed in the creature’s eye then, as it battered Vârvost’s helm and body with the force of a battle tank, and he crashed towards the deck like a dropped stone.

For a heartbeat, all was lost before a high pitched whine cut through the shrieks of the unclean hordes below, as Vârvost thrust upwards using his jetpack. Without losing speed, he deflected the beast’s limbs with a casual flick of his wrist before cutting the afterburners. The moment dragged on, and as he hung in mid-air, the very essence of Vârvost’s being sang its song to me.

He was an angel of death.

Falling, he buried his chain axe, two-handed, into the creature’s torso, letting the ugly buzz of whirring mechanised teeth and gravity do the rest. The Eradicator literally tore the thing in twain as he dropped towards the deck, bone and ichor flowed like a burst water dam after him.

I didn’t hesitate. I shot a single, well-aimed bolt-round into its chest cavity and the explosive round obliterated what was left. The thing’s primal wail was almost deafening from where I stood, as it flopped uselessly onto the decking around my brother, who had crouched to avoid the near dead weight of the remaining warlord.

The angel looked directly at me, and nodded.

OOC: I've moved this post here to come after GM's updated turn 6 sequence.

Half Action to Aim (+10BS)
Half Action to do a CALLED SHOT against Tyranid Warrior 2's Body
BS40 (+10 Aim, +20 Size, -20 Called Shot) = 70
FATE POINT to re-roll: 26
Damage 1D10+9 (Pen 4): 7 (16)
Against TB10 and Armour 8(4) = 2 Critical Damage (-5 to -7)
The explosive force of the attack ruptures the target’s flesh and scrambles his nervous system, knocking him to the ground. The target falls down, is Stunned for 1d10 Rounds and takes 1d10 levels of Fatigue. In addition, he now suffers Blood Loss and can only take Half Actions for the next 1d10 hours as he tries to regain control of his body.

All Solastion could do in this moment was grit his teeth and clench his jaw tightly as this all brought back memories of his dark days upon the Space Hulk that had claimed so many of his brothers and, with the situation being similar, made him fight all the harder as he attempted to prevent what he had previously been unable to.

As he inched ever closer to his Eradicator cousin, each swing he took with his Chainsword caused the periphery of his vision to take on a red tinge; the bloodlust threatening to take hold of him. He steeled himself against the desire to abandon himself to the carnage for his brothers had need of him and the tide was visibly turning against the alien but they were not free of the threat just yet.

He barely registered the deep gouges in his legplate  and the warning runes flashing in his HUD about the damage.

With the xenos throngs impeded his progress by sheer weight of numbers, Solastion started half-pushing himself through the claws and fangs and half hacking his way through, each footfall making a resounding clang as it bore his weight in addition to those that would impede him.

Solastion attempts to enter squad mode as a free action: Enter Squad Mode: 1d10 8 vs cohesion 6; fail.

He will then make an All-Out Attack against the horde (more Boni up to max to +60, the better he can hack through them :tongue.:) for +20 to WS but unable to dodge or parry.

All Out Attack: 1d100 65 using an FP to reroll; might as well.

FP Reroll: 1d100 28 vs WS46 + 30 (mag) + 20 (AOA) = 96 for 6 DOS and three extra hits beyond the first for a total of 4 hits.

  1. Chainsword Damage w/ Tearing: 2#1d10+16 22 18; taking the 22
  2. Chainsword Damage w/ Tearing: 2#1d10+16 18 19; taking the 19
  3. Chainsword Damage w/ Tearing: 2#1d10+16 25 17; taking the 25
  4. Chainsword Damage w/ Tearing: 2#1d10+16 22 24; taking the 24

All damage Rending at Pen 3.

Yay for the massive SB Solastion has to offset rolling hilariously low on D10s :tongue.:

Pausing the briefest moment to assess the situation, Atratus sought to calm his mind from the rush of battle. The scene before him seemed to freeze as his superhuman senses took in every detail, the flow of the horde, the path of his companions, the lone armsman that struggled defiantly against it all.

Amidst the chaos an opportunity presented itself as the two swarms of xenos attempted to merge into one, not yet co-ordinated, a flawed defense as they turned to face new foes.

Time returned as Atratus lept forward crashing down from the apex of his jump into this fulcrum point, driving deeply through the horde, suppressing brief amusement at the thought that Varvost had likely done the same to find himself so deeply buried, perhaps his brothers mannerisms were rubbing off on him.

+My Sergeant, once we're clear of these doors, lock them, these aliens die here and now at our hands.+

The Novamarine was about to answer an affirmative when his eyes caught sight of something. Someone. The lone Armsman. Sole survivor of their unit, surrounded by a sea of void-spawned horrors... and yet still fighting. That Armsman stood where others had fallen. That Armsman no doubt realised that Death was near and yet fought on against all odds, firing their lasgun and stabbing with their bayonet.

Only in Death does Duty end. And Death shall not take this human. Not yet.

Khyber Vaidan clenched his boltgun tight and launched himself towards the horde, disregarding all else. The Adeptus Astartes were created to protect Mankind from the horrors within, without, and beyond. It was their sole and sacred duty, nothing else mattered more. And it was Vaidan's duty in this moment to save the lone Armsman from death at the hands of the Tyranids.

Hidden Content
KV sprints in a straight line towards the Armsman (~20m) and gives them a gentle but firm "man hug" to protect them from all harm.

The Armsman turned as they heard the thundering noise of armoured boots thumping the deck plating. A pair of piercing green eyes opened wide in surprise and fear, lips locked into a grimace. Vaidan's mind almost subconciously registered the solider as a female. Her body had locked its muscles giving the appearance of a person flash-frozen on the spot. The Novamarine had seen that countless times when the metal carapace of a ship was torn open and the void seeped in and embraced any unprotected being.

The Novamarine halted a scant few centimetres before collision, hunched himself over the immobile, both arms wrapping themselves firmly around the human soldier, knees slightly bent. In a heartbeat he mag-locked himself to the deck, ready to weather the inevitable storm from the chitinous sea of horrors around them.

"Squad Blackthorn, Codex defence pattern Castellum Fortis around me! We are the sworn defenders of Humanity and its Empire that streches across the stars! Destroy these foul beasts with the speed of Khan and Corax, the ferocity of Russ and Sanguinius, and the determination of Ferrus and Dorn. Ad Victoriam, brothers!"

Hidden Content
Vaidan spends 3 Cohesion to activate the Codex Defensive Stance Strongpoint and designates the Upper Hormagaunt Horde as the Called Target. Any Battle-Brother within Support Range (30m) of the Sergeant and attacking that Horde gains +20 to Ballistic Skill and Weapon Skill Tests, may reroll Damage against it, and may use their Reactions to make Standard Attacks against it.

Last but not least, Vaidan has spent a Fate Point to do all of this, leaving him with 2 Fate Points left.

Activating his exterior speakers, Vaidan utters a "unclench your teeth and don't move" to the soldier. He barely had the time to finish when a Hormagaunt pounced on them. The Novamarine threw his arm upwards, hand open.

Hidden Content
As a Reaction, Vaidan will make a Standard Attack against the Upper Hormagaunt Horde.

Target: WS43+20(Squad Mode)-20(armed Tyranid->Hard test) = 43

Roll: 1d100 -> 10 (PASS + 1 DoS)

Hit #1: 1d5-3 +8(SB) -3(TB) -3(Armour) -> 5-3 +8 +8(RF) -3 -3 = 12 damage (impact)

Hit #2: 1d5-3 +8(SB) -3(TB) -3(Armour) -> 5-3 +8 +3(RF) -3 -3 = 7 damage (impact)

2 Magnitude damage inflicted.

The armoured limb connected with the critter's torso, sending it crashing into a second Hormagaunt with an audible crack. Vaidan's feral smile returned.

Silence reigns - you hear oppressive silence, marred only by the dripping of ichor and other fluids. For each of you, your armour is scarred and damaged - but you are victorious.

The Novamarine waited a full three seconds before allowing himself to stand straight. After the cacophony of combat, the silence felt deafening. Bright red blood rolled down his left arm, drops coming off the tips of his armoured fingers. His blood. He knew his Larraman's Organ was already working at staunching the blood loss but if blood had managed to get so far, the wounds were deep. He would have to ask the Apothecary to have a look at them. They all would.

First he looked around to find his squad members. As they gathered around him and the human soldier, he could see that a majority of them had suffered at the claws of the Tyranids.

Battered but alive and victorious.

He chuckled and smiled warmly, looking at each of the Astartes in turn.

"Brothers, we have survived our first true trial, our baptism of fire. Here we are, standing upon the field of battle, bruised and bloodied, but our foe utterly destroyed. And yet this is only the beginning of our mission. Let today's lessons be tomorrow's successes. Keep your blades keen and your minds keener: with these we shall be victorious yet again."

Pausing, he looks at each Space Marine once more.

"I am proud of you, brothers. Your tenactiy and skill-at-arms do you and your respective Chapters all proud. It is an honour to fight with such fine representatives of our brotherhood."

Silence returned once more and Vaidan's features took a more serious look.

"Our priority now is to make sure each brother and their equipment is battle-ready before I contact Captain Dimitar and we move out. Do not hesitate to ask Solastion and Sabaan for their assisstance if it is required. One never knows if Captain Dimitar needs us again or what Tyranid horror could be lurking in the deepest darkest shadows. We must be ready."

Nycax advanced. He continued firing until no active threats remained. Ahead, the last warriorform fell to the blades of his brother. As he made his way through the corridor, his cogitators and auto-senses formulated a trajectory that saw him pass some of the xenos remains that, while deemed no longer posing a direct threat, remained some form of activity. Conserving his ammunition and not willing to lose precious time, he used the bulk of his armored form to crush the skull full of still snapping teeth here and kicked in the torso of a legless gaunt there. It took a few nanoseconds to realize that his brothers were not advancing along the lines of his projections. For a brief moment, he caught the sensory echoes of the huge armoured shapes of the venerated elders at the edge of his vision were his squad members ought to be. He chided himself. He was no longer fighting among his clan. It had been easier to accept that information among the artificial wrongness of their virtual combat training. Here, in an actual firefight, he should have been more aware.

"Compliance". Akkad' response, delivered by voice and not via proper clave-link, only added irrefutable evidence to that. As if to to offer a final proof, the Astral Claw' s hulking form passed his position at full running speed in what was very muh the anti-thesis of a controlled extermination protocol. He felt his ire rise. Not all of it was directed at Akkad...

A cross link of voice analyzation and behavioral patterns, along with the memory data on his often...erratic..Mechanicus Mentor suggested the Devastator was making an attempt at humor. He was about to formulate a response when he saw Tyler turning and running towards the intersection. He decided to drop the matter. Outcome is all.

Servos whirring he began to pick up his pace. He switched to his bolt pistol and combat knife approaching the intersection. The spine of a xenos beast scattered under his foot. Sabaan put just a fraction more pressure to it than required as he began to catch up with Akkad.

Taking a moment to listen to Viadas’ words, Tyber sheathed his weapons before kneeling to dip his right hand into the fluids left by some of the beasts. His hand well coated, he looked to the human and waved her over. She stood quaking in the presence of might of the Astartes, over the speakers of his warplate he spoke while drawing the Palatine Aquila on her forehead +You stood in the face of horrors.+ a wing drawn, +You stood with the might of the Astartes.+ the body and second wing drawn, +You earned the right to be recognized by us.+ the heads drawn, +Never forget you are worthy of the Emperor.+ finally the thunderbolts are drawn.

Taking a moment to look over his work, Tyber thought back to when he first heard about this being done, it was something the 9th Armoured Assault Chapter had done for the Imperials Milita, well outstanding members anyway, that had stood strong in the face of overwhelming threat in the presence of the Astartes. It really meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. But for a mortal, it could be something to give them strength of mind and body the next time they were called to stand strong against something best left to the Astartes.

His reflection done, he stood back to his full height and gave her a slight bow of respect. With that done he used the squad Vox to speak to Solastion and Sabban, “Brothers, when you have time and have seen to those that need it more, I could use both of your talents. That blow I took from one of the larger bio-forms was stronger than I had anticipated.”
