Free Action: Release Grapple

The beast - now subdued and half crushed snorted at him, but no longer in derision.  There was only one alpha here and it was the Lion of Badab.  He could see it in the eyes as it made to slink off, he allowed it, trotting then picking up speed as fright took it more than anger and it made way into the early morn.  Now standing back he could see the size of the creature, almost as big as a Rhino APC.  Suddenly he felt foolish attempting to tackle the beast.  Lasfire and shells pummelled the building in front, with the enemy groups spread out across the plaza.  He unlimbered Cadence and half crouched behind the pile of rubble nearby.

Akkad uses Tactics: Assault Doctrine

Int: 41 (no modifier) D100 Roll = 33 Pass.

+Danquis, keep that fire pouring off! First Section support, Third Section, with me!+  A quick salute and the Sergeants returned to shooting heretics, looking around as the troops gathered, the youth was beside him, blooded but unbroken.  Rockets streamed past him as he ran, Sonnet in hand, snapping off shots which detonated in chests, arms, legs.  Grenades now, fragmentation bursts as he picked up speed, the focal point for Autogun rounds, which found no purchase on his harness.  Close enough for short range volleys, the PDF blasted squads of the enemy, Akkad crashing into them screaming at them, vox to full, driving them back with the promise of death.  He reached the cattle-cart and found the keeper with the goad.  Unceremoniously he shot his arm off at the shoulder, holstered his pistol and snatching the electric stun prod up rammed it full length into the horribly mutated mouth, forcing it down a gurgling, screaming throat with his electrosilver plated arm.

+Choke on it filth!+ He was slashing now with his clawed fingertips, a lion's claw tearing meat and suddenly, he was through them and heading into the Slaughterhouse, Tyber somewhere off to his left.  Heavy Bolter fire and the fizzling slice of a Multilaser chewed the roof and walls in front of him.

+Ahu, do you require assistance?+

He saw a set of stairs and a passageway.

Down.

+Ahu, Do you require assistance?+ came the voice of Akkad, Tyber smiled under his helm before he responded with; +Assistance would be useful, we are chasing a shadow in here, it has claimed a few of my troopers... 2-12 is trying to flush it from cover at the moment.+

Akkad dropped to the ground, fumbling for his Auspex, drawing it out one-handed, the other ready with his own Heavy Bolter.  His Lymans' Ear straining over the sounds around him, he boosted his physiology with the gifts of the Mechanicum.

Tech Use Test: Auspex = 41 (Non-Human life signs within 50 metres)

D100: 10 Pass, 3 DoS.

The forest of hanging meat swung oddly eerie, half pulverised and detonated, half flash fried as the search continued.

As the team entered the Sanctum Profanus of the Enemy Within, Solastion saw Atratus take aim through his scope and give them a readout of what lay beyond the barred doors that were before them.

Now appraised of what they found, Solastion got onto the squads vox ++How do we Proceed? This may be our one chance to strike at the beast.++

+Seems two of the beasts found me.+ Tyber offered hurriedly.

Akkad stood up, heaving his weapon around in time to see a host of what were obviously cultists pouring down stairs, throwing themselves off landings to get at him and the troopers that now followed in behind him.  Their eyes, where human had rolled up into their skulls and their lips were flecked with laces of drooling spittle, ragged hands and feet, some bare, nails broken and fingers torn where they had clawed, hooved, pulled their way into the slaughterhouse and up from sewer drains, pipes - they were even coming out of the walls.

It was a mass of flesh, armed with pistols, cleavers, bare fists.  Claws and tails and appendages that belonged to no human touched and raised by human kindness.  Akkad stood there as they advanced, hoarse calls from dry throats, a moaning that became gestalt, a sighing and wailing that resolved into a few legible words.

"...protect...the masster..."  A hundred voices, then one-hundred and twenty, thirty, his Lyman's Ear could maddeningly hear them all.  Some were older, some slower, some younger, all in thrall, all slaves of the beast that hid somewhere in the complex below.

//Squad Vox//

++I am going to be...delayed.++ He spoke no more, he gripped the heavy bolter, wishing for a flamer as the human wave advanced.  He was torn between helping Tyber and helping the rest of the Squad, but the Emperor had sought test his faith in them all.  They were going to have to stand and fight or lay down and die on their own - for now.  He knew they were competent, but the Ahu was a friend and anchored him to this brotherhood.  Perhaps like Enlil-Su and Ichoma, he would be saying farewell.  Still time for that, whilst their hearts still beat.

Carnage.  Sheer undiluted carnage erupted from the foemen as his squads blew them apart, stringy sinew and shattered bone spattering everywhere from frag grenades, frag missiles at open sights point-blank range.  Lasguns flash fried the mutant-helots, who burned in gleeful ecstasy in the slavery of their inhuman master.  They continued to close, until Akkad had enough of staring at them.  Saying nothing, he merely opened fire, his heart sheathed in icy wrath.  But the word "merely" does not apply wholesale to any weapon wielded by the Astartes.

If the frag grenades were carnage, with body parts flailing over the loyalists, Cadence was the sentence of armageddon.  Huge rounds spat, tearing through the front rank, shearing off limbs, heads, blasting ribcages to pieces, leaving the corpses to stagger onwards, parodies of huge blooming flowers of raw, cooked and superheated meat.  It was apt that they were slain here, in this slaughterhouse.  They die the death they have earned. He thought, bitterly, face grimacing in chill aplomb.  Gobbets of filth struck wetly to walls, barricades, ceilings and his own armour.  He knew they would keep coming and they did, just as he knew he would keep firing as he always had and onwards went the macabre dance, even as all the troopers were subsumed by the tide of what could only be called zombies, pulled down to a scratching, clawing, biting end, throats and bellies torn out in ropey entrails of  blued pink, matching the befouled robes some of the cultists wore.

Increasingly Akkad became a wave-break in the oncoming tide.  They were pushing him, stabbing without skill or effect, seeking only to use their humanity as a shield for their blasphemous lord, the perverter of flesh and bone, of spirit and strength.  Seeing he was getting nowhere and losing ground, as with the bull he dug his toes in.  Cadence's own roars were being absorbed by the mass of straining humanity, but where the bull could be dominated, the strength of human will was greater and shone like a beacon in the dying moments of the PDF troopers, innards spilled, bowels voided in the last embrace of their former kinsmen.

No rallying cries now would drive them on as even he, a mighty Space Marine was driven back, the skin of his plate riven with cuts and gouges the like of which stripped parts of it bare.  The silver of the Astral Claws shone brutally dull as Akkad locked off the heavy bolter and reached for purchase on the industrial cutting tables, his hand closing over something, muscles and instinct proclaiming it a weapon.

A huge torque wrench, plied by the mech-wrights of the factoria rose in his hand.  Three feet long, with a mighty lump of gripping tongues on the end, it would have taken two men to wield.  Akkad did not lay about him, he set to forging ahead.  Skulls split, entire bodies were caved in as the Astral Claw struck - not just for his brothers, not even just for Tyber, but because an insult had been spat, a challenge had been laid and by the Emperor death was his trade.  He wreaked a bloody vengeance out of spite, hurling men and women to the floor, his boot falling again and again on skulls, limbs, anything.  The clawtips of his gauntlet were roped with guts, his mighty vambraces red to the elbow.  A man's face disintegrated on a backswing of the wrench, his eyeballs spat out runny egg yolk and alien DNA onto his kin, who paid no heed, only to die in turn as Akkad smashed his head like a ripe melon against a wall.

Only rapture and pressure and the will of the inhuman drove Akkad back from his brethren, but dawn was coming and time was running out.

He redoubled his efforts whilst their hearts still beat.

Solastion will activate Burst of Speed and take the Run Action to move 36m (AB3 -> AB5 +1 (hulking) = Movement Rate of 6/12/18/36) right up behind Varvost; if my count is right it should land me 1 square-ish behind him if he goes straight to the door, then between the first two pillars alongside the right hand wall.

In the blink of an eye, the whole squad exploded into a sudden blur of motion.

As the Broodlord reeled from the sniper shot that impacted it in the leg, Solastion barely registered the rocket that was Varvost launching himself into the fray, impacting forcefully into the throng of otherwise unawares cultists, a good dozen being butchered before they could even realize that there was a Space Marine amongst them.

Seeing as he, himself, was not armed for Ranged Combat, Solastion burst into action running full speed behind his Eradicator cousin.

Now, Solastions Scion of Sanguinius Ability states that the SPriest can enter a frenzy as a Free Action but that fellow Blood Angels (and successors) can enter into a frenzied state if they're within support range (which at ranks 1-3 means ~30m) but makes no mention of having to be in squad mode? So, if this means that Solastion can enable Varvost to frenzy without having to be in squad mode, then he will.

Otherwise, he himself will also Frenzy which is +10 WS, S and T but -20 BS and INT for the duration amongst other things.

The room erupted into action as the attack began and the xenos lord vanished behind the mass of bodies. Atratus held his aim as around him his battle brothers leant their strength of arms to hold back the tide, though it would seem the surprise of the attack had not yet faded.

Brief glimpses of the target, moving, always watching, but not fleeing before them. A decision that might prove to be its last.

Delay until Strongpoint is activated (half action), Aim (half action) Fire (reaction - from strongpoint)

D100 to hit = 44 +10 (range) +20(accurate/aim) - hit with 2 extra DoS, or 4 extra if strongpoint active

Damage 10, 3, 8 (last dice only if strongpoint active)

Righteous fury 4 (rerolled to 8 if strongpoint active)

Total damage:
Without Strongpoint = 18, Pen 7, Felling
With Strongpoint = 33, Pen 7, Felling

I've included the non-strongpoint shot in the event strongpoint is not called - in which case the actions will be a simple aim and shoot

He could not see.  Flesh plugged the lenses of his helmet, but he carried on fighting regardless.  A swipe of his wrist would have cleaved the clotted remains from his visor and freed his eyes to look upon their sins, but unlike them, he only had two arms.  One skewered them, the other smote, both with strength unabated.  Striking by rhythm and instinct more than skill at arms, he bludgeoned his way through them, managing only to keep his feet as they pushed and struck him, a river of corruption against the purity of his purpose.  His fervour against them had been spent in the destruction of rank after rank, the blows reaping two and three, his ankles were submerged in pulped mass.

Something crunched under his boot and did not yield.  Violenlty he pushed them back, an explosive heave from his hips and thighs and they abated - but only a second.  A savage swipe restored his sight and brutally he crushed his dismay with bitter hate as he stumbled over the equipment of the youth.  He allowed them to swamp him as he knelt, fr he had found a prize that he had needed.  A convulsion threw the vermin that clambered over his arms and shoulders back into the ranks that spawned them and he retreated, swiftly, four, five metres.

Mutely, he lifted his hand and dumbstruck, they watched the rain flail against the sodden coagulation of their kin that clasped more tightly to his shell than they.  I shall never be rid of their stink. He opened his palm.  But I shall be rid of them.  Four grenade pins twinkled dully in the sickly grey-yellow bile of dawn and the quake began as the frag grenades detonated wetly, as if a titan had taken a hammer and smashed into a line of toy soldiers.  Akkad retreated more until he was well outside the factorum. They followed him hesitating, only thinking to keep him out and now they had achieved that, suddenly they were flat footed.  A round cracked off his armour.

+Captain Haltreme this is Akkad.  Do you read?+ Static for a moment as the crowd parted and a young man appeared, his robes sodden with the gore of his fellows, but a slithering slipperiness about his serpentine movements.  He drew back his hood to reveal his face, blue-pink skin and the subtle hue of chitinous iridescence about his bare neck and chest.  A longue tongue drooled from his fanged mouth.

+Haltreme here my lord.+  The very human captain was drowned out by a snarl from the gestalt body of mutated contempt before him.

"I...am Janus.." the man said, as if this was something to impress.  Akkad tilted his helmet in idle indulgence. "the Tongued One."

+I care not for your name, Nekelmu. Put me through to Lieutenant Schenk.+ The last was directed to the Captain.  He heard the connection patch, opened his mouth to speak and then the abomination drew his attention again.

"You are the Taster...the one who sssteals memoriesss.  The one who has sseen.  We know you.  We welcome you if you would but join...our flesssh..."

He froze.  The sneer died from his face as the implications of the dark feast he had gorged now began to swim from the darkness into frightening clarity.  Greysight had seen.  The Storm Son, unperturbed had been measured in his admonition.  But what of the Ahu? Or the others?  It was unthinkable that that he could have played a part in their troubles.  The abyss also stares into you... he rallied himself, icy blades of determination scything.

+Schenk my Lord.+ The Emperor protects.

+Direction, 3000, Drop 250, enemy infantry, 200 in light cover.  Danger close.  Fire for effect.+

Thud, thud, thud.

Apocalypse came to the slaughterhouse.  Three Medusa shells screamed through the air and for a second Akkad thought they would take him.  For a moment, he wanted them to, not caring anymore, ashamed that his soul was scoured by the brood-strains of the hideous pantomime puppets in front of him.  That he could be tainted by them within and without, linked to such weak and pathetic creatures drowned him in bitter gall.  His ear told him he was safe as the mammoth explosive shells blew the building, the ferrocrete road, pipework, bodies and the still, smog-fouled air into a miasma of screeching, hateful - and blessedly human - metal.  The ground shook, well away from Tyber, well away from Blackthorn, but they would know what happened, important now if this was to be his last sunrise.  Partially collapsed buildings fell in ramshackle torrents and then the air was still.  It had been perfection.  Unlike him, the big guns had not tired.  He checked himself for damage, unclenching from the brace he had maintained and was satisfied to see the pressure blast had cleansed him of the filth.  His harness now almost quartered black and silver, the Lion scratched and scored, but defiant.  The Astral Claws were at war.  Brutal, bloody war.

A movement in the rubble.  Akkad snorted, stepped casually forward, his earlier malaise forgotten - the wrench in his hand, not.  A cluster of broken stones gave up the young man.  He hissed up at Akkad, who leaned down on the cairn that pinned the creature to the floor.

"You are known to usss.." it began again.  The clawed fingertips shot out and grasped the longue, sinewy tongue.  The wrench drew back, high in the sun.

+Thou shalt speakest no evil.+ He wrenched the tongue with all his might, ripping it free in a welter of gore and fragments of bone, then catapulted the wrench forward with such force and speed it pulped the skull and skin and plates that shone in the light and bent into a malformed twisted lump, knowing finally that it's purpose had been served.  Akkad dropped both objects onto the ground a bricks replaced the rain, dropping and cracking on the road.  Without further word he walked back into the building.  The Broodlord and all his verminous kin must be silenced, maybe then and only then, the whispers would die in his ears.

"You are known to usssss....."

A blur flashed infront of the Raptors scope as he fired, the element of surprise now lost as the xenos rallied to defend their master. Even the smaller creature still clawed and writhed alive on the ground despite the potent toxins of the weapon and Atratus cursed his lack of foresight on this matter.

Vadian had made the same assessment, if this could not be settled quickly at distance then it must be settled decisively at closer range before the xenos forces organised and encircled. Taking a step forward he unclipped a frag grenade and hurled it towards the central throng of cultists.

Frag grenade into the middle of the cultists and genestealer 5

d100 = 48 +20 (size) -10 (long range) vs 42 = hit, no extra DoS

Blast 5 = six hits on the central cultists and one on genestealer 5

Cultists = 3/3, 3/7, 3/7, 10/7, 4/10, 9/5 = one hit inflict 6 damage, the rest inflicting 10+ (so either 5 or 6 magnitude damage, plus possibly another for being explosive)

Genestealer = 10/8 = 18 damage, righteous fury = 5 for a total of 23 explosive damage to the stealer

OOC:

Genestealer B;

Dodge Tyber’s melee attack

TN 70 (Agi 60, +10 Dodge skill)

dodge test: 1d100 67 Pass with no DoS

Tyber’s arming sword skipped across the chitin of one of the beasts as it rolled out of the way slightly, it’s claws snapping at him in the process, turning his head momentarily to keep an eye on the other one. Facing two foes was seemingly harder than he had first thought; these beasts were quick, just as if not more so than both Akkad and Solastion had warned him they were. They also seemed to be more intelligent than he had first thought, they moved in a pair, attacked as a pair trying to overwhelm him.

OOC:

Single Shot at the back of Genestealer B

TN: 54 (BS 44 +10 Master Work Plasma Pistol?)

Plasma pistol shot on Genestealer B: 1d100 40 Hit 1 DoS or just a hit if Plasma Pistol is not master work.

He found his attention spilt on three things, both of these Xenos and Ryken, still unsure of which of these were the greatest threats at the moment that was when his HUD spiked a heat warning to him on his right side. Spinning his head to look in that direction just as the autosense darkened to avoid over exposure to the photons that were emitted from the blast by Ryken’s Plasma pistol that caught one of the Genesteelers in the back of the head, not enough to kill it as it would seem, but enough to wound it badly enough to make it give off a shriek of surprise.

It was in that moment, that Tyber had taken his attention off of the first beast that it struck; out of the corner of his eye he saw the lunge. Recalling the foot work that he had seen Cadius use in the cage, Tyber shifted his mass from his left leg to his right, twisting his body as he did so, just as the claws of the beast scrapped the paint on his armour, at least both beats were now in his view.

The second beast lept at him, again claws outstretched, this time however Tyber, lowered his stance just long enough to get his right shoulder under the beast, before standing quickly, knocking the Genestealer with abrupt force onto the wall beside him.

OOC:

Invoking demeanor; Ambitious

+That wasn’t something I had seen Cadius do, but I am not Cadius… I will be better than Cadius. My name will be spoken in the same reverence as Alajos, Corswain, Inardin and Sigismund. My legend is to begin here and now!+ Tyber bellowed over both the external and squad level vox.

TN: 70 (Agi 60, +10 Dodge skill)

Spinning quickly on his right heal, Tyber slashed out with both his chainsword and arming sword, the beast threw itself over the arming sword so closely that one could see those yellow eyes reflecting off of the blade, as his chain blade came forward in a well-timed thrust with the first swing, it bit nothing but wall, ripping out chunks. Rolling his arming sword while continuing to follow the leap of that Genestealer, Tyber came down in a mighty chop against the beast’s right leg, catching it in the upper thigh. The chitin cracked under the force of the blow knocking the beast to the ground in a heap of bone and flesh.

Genestealer B dies

Again his armour warned him of an inbound heat spike, this time though the twisted lump at his feet burst into flames, chitin bursting and turning black as the creature was flash fried with the heat of a small star. Tyber turned to look at Ryken, again that pistol in his hand; still a threat and he dared to rob me of glory! Thought Tyber as he heavily stalked towards the last genestealer, his every motion one meant to give a sense of dread to the target.

TN: 64 (WS 54 +10 Balanced on chainsword)

Parrry: 1d100 53 pass, 1 DoS

The last genestealer seemed to take the hint that perhaps it had miscalculated the threat the Ryken had posed, after all the human had just killed it’s brood-mate, taking this opportunity to get an easy kill, it moved to strike Ryken, it’s right claw high in the air about to come down on the mortal’s head.

Tyber moved with all haste, letting Ryken die, here and now wouldn’t serve any purpose, worse he could be blamed for it, shoving the armoured back of the chainsword into the path of the claw came easily to him, the beast seemed to look at Tyber, as if trying to figure out a way to escape the avatar of death that was now within easy blade range of it.

Still taking damage from other two attacks, total taken 25, putting it at -5

Genestealer A is stunned for 2 rounds, down one point of armour on the chest and taken 5-9 levels of fatigue

With a quick flick of his right arm, Tyber slash out and high with his arming sword, catching the beast just above the eye and knocking free one of it’s plates on the top of it’s skull. Howling in pain the beast rolled to the right in time to avoid Tyber rolling his chainsword under the beast’s left arm, causing it to catch nothing but air. As it clutched that side of its face, Tyber swung down and diagonally across the beast, catching it solidly in the chest, peeling back more armour plates and exposing it’s insides to the cool air of the meat locker.

Taking a moment to lock his chainsword away, Tyber then switched to a two handed grip on his arming sword, raising the blade high above and behind him before coming down with thunderous force on the beast, so much so that the room itself shook, the beast now lay in two, split from tip to tail.

“I must say, you seem somewhat stronger than I had first assumed…” spoke Ryken as the lights swung back and forth in their mounts.

Tyber couldn’t help but begin to laugh, as he sheathed his arming sword before he spoke, +That was not me Interrogator, that was artillery landing close by…+

Switching to Akkad’s channel, he asked +Ahu, are you well? Ambush defeated, I am unharmed. We are moving to link up with the rest of the squad+

+Ahu, are you well? Ambush defeated, I am unharmed. We are moving to link up with the rest of the squad+

Tyber.

His mien lightened, but only a fraction.  Something dark sat over his shoulders like a cloak, drove him on.  He searched for the stairwell he had noticed earlier, even in this changed landscape of fallen bricks and tangled wreckage, the industrial grade rails and stone steps down had not choked.

+I am well my Kin and glad to hear your voice.+ Truth lay in every word. +I am approximately 300 metres east of you.  I have found a way down.+ His tone was sincere, but not as light with the Ahu as usual.  Whispers lingered.  He set his locator beacon for recovery should Tyber wish to follow him, then with his heavy bolter in his paws, he descended the steps swiftly, until he met a sturdy door.  Nothing fabricated by the mechanicum was weak, he allowed, but the flesh moulded by the Emperor was more than up to the task.

Bolted and buttressed in no less than six places by the count of his augurs, he took a step back and used the finest tool of entrance.  His boot.

Strength: 50 + 20 (Armour) = 70
D100: 56, Pass, one DoS, plus 2 DoS from Unnat Tough)

The door crashed open, flying backwards, revealing more stairs.

Awareness: Hearing Test.
Perception: 50 + 20 (Heightened Senses) = 70
D100 Roll: 009 Pass, 5 DoS

He heard the hard bangs of bolter rounds, the teeth loosening force of frag grenades.  The Killteam was down here and so were the haunting enemy.

As the Sanguinary Priest made his way towards the Horde, firing his Bolt Pistol as an afterthought into the foes arrayed before him, and brought up his chainsword wielding arm to strike at them now that he was less than an arms breadth away.

But, just as he was about to cleave a handful of mortal abominations, his Autosenses proximity alters blared and he had just enough warning to quickly dart to his side fast enough that the rending claw that would have impaled him through the back, punch cleanly through the space he had just been occupying.

With the new threat now making itself abundantly apparent, Solastions subsequent follow through of his Chainsword swing upon the Xenos Helots went wide as he shifted his attention to the new threat.

Solastion will Standard attack the Horde: Standard Attack1d100 86 vs WS 46 + 10 (Frenzy) + ?? (horde size) = 56 + ?? Probably still a Miss.

+I am approximately 300 metres east of you.  I have found a way down.+ Came the voice of Akkad, to Tyber’s ears something sounded off, his voice wasn’t as light as usual. When the recovery beacon suddenly arrived on his HUD, something inside Tyber set him into motion.

+2-12, open the wall, after that move to support the exterior force. Ryken, try to keep up with me.+ said Tyber as he sheathed his arming sword and drew his bolt pistol, checked the clip, replaced it and cocked the slide.

He took a breath, getting himself ready. With the crashing sound of 2-12 going through the locker room’s wall, he set off into a run, firing his pistol at the next wall. As the fifth round left the chamber, Tyber ejected the clip, slamming home a fresh one, repeating the process of getting the pistol ready to fire again as he rolled his left shoulder forward, bursting through the wall, sending cinderblocks bursting into the next room. Keeping his pace, Tyber snapped off shots at a couple of cult members that were stunned by his arrival through the wall.  He repeated this process till he came across the stairwell down, seeing Akkad’s beacon indicating he had taken the stairs down, Tyber took the stairs two at a time, trying to catch up to his brother by choice, determined not to lose another one through inaction on his part.

The pip representing Tyber came closer.  Akkad was  confused for a moment as the squad signal phased in and out violently, then made sense as he heard the smashing brick and bolt pistol fire.  A strange twitch pulled at his mouth and his mood realised his face held a smirk.  Akkad had gone round.  Tyber was going through.  He paused at another door.  A horizontal cut had been made roughly with some kind of metal grinder, several attempts had been made to make is straight.  A flap had been crudely hinged over it.  His helm canted as he puzzled what to do.  It was a door no sturdier than the last - his thoughts were disturbed.

"Janus - Janus my son is that you?" An elderly female voice accompanied the flap lifting.  Akkad peered down, his chest completely obscuring the vision.  He coughed in his helm then made his voice as quiet as he could.

+It is I!  Admit me quickly! I am in danger!+ He added after a pause, already on the periphery of his hearing, the screaming ramjets and thundering footsteps of his Kin came ever closer.

"Quickly my son!" The door flew open, spilling light onto the dark stairwell. A gasp as the mutated grandmother, her face lined with chitin and vestigial bone-growth sprouting from her back and arms, a purple sash across menial's robes beheld the giant in her midst.

His hands full, Akkad drew back his body, rearing up in less than a heartbeat, his helm touching the collar on the rear of his cuirass.  A curious moment passed when the helmet touched the top of the ammunition hoppers up on his shoulders.  Then he drove down and head-butted her.  She collapsed silently, neck broken, crumpled on the floor.  He stepped in.

++This is Akkad, I am on the ground level somewhere.  My Savant, please send me your telemetry.++  Huge sounds of a huge marine pounding down the stairs alerted him and suddenly the room they stood in seemed very small, dominated by the massive form of his Ahu.  The smaller Marine banged on his pauldron in a comradely fashion, speaking privately,  his tone laden with portent.

+This is the end of hunt my Kin.  I could not share this moment with a finer warrior.  I should not wish to.+

Seeing that Akkad seemed well, Tyber relaxed somewhat, the banging on his pauldron completed his centering.

+This is the end of hunt my Kin.  I could not share this moment with a finer warrior.  I should not wish to.+ came the words of his brother, Tyber smiled under his helm and returned the clap on the pauldron. +Nor could I.+

Taking a lead position, a head and to the right of Akkad Tyber stalked down the hall in search of their squad.

The tide pushed on obscuring the target, but still it stood its ground rather than flee in the confusion. Had it chosen to fight with its back to the wall or did it still believe itself secure?

Atratus loped forwards past Greysight, hurling another frag grenade towards the mutants before a blast of flame from his pack carried him into the pillar several meters up. Gripping the stone in one armoured gauntlet and rifle maglocked at his side he slowed his mind to take in the scene before him. The xenos were flowing left followed by their spawn, encirclement or breakout, one yet hidden from the first count. Beyond the partriach and the figure stood in darkness that seemed to follow wherever they walked.

Gazing over the throng he sought to make out its true nature, but the figure faded away as if into its own shadow as more cultists surged forward to obscure it.

Half move to pillar, half move throw frag grenade at the leftmost of group A and the clustered genestealers
