Hail brothers and sisters of the Liber! It is time to dust off any old DIYs or unused ideas and give them another shot. Now's the time to crank out the old creativity.

Today the Algonquin Table is born! A home for non-40k inspired chapters

The original Algonquin Round Table was a group of New York City writers, critics, actors, and wits. Gathering initially as part of a practical joke, members of "The Vicious Circle", as they dubbed themselves, met for lunch each day at the Algonquin Hotel from 1919 until roughly 1929. At these luncheons they engaged in wisecracks, wordplay, and witticisms that, through the newspaper columns of Round Table members, were disseminated across the country.

Daily association with each other, both at the luncheons and outside of them, inspired members of the Circle to collaborate creatively. The entire group worked together successfully only once, however, to create a revue called No Sirree! which helped launch a Hollywood career for Round Tabler Robert Benchley.

In its ten years of association, the Round Table and a number of its members acquired national reputations, both for their contributions to literature and for their sparkling wit. Although some of their contemporaries, and later in life even some of its members, disparaged the group, its reputation has endured long after its dissolution.

This is I hope will be something special, and fun... in a roundabout way. The idea is to push not only yourself but those of you around you. To have a seat at the Algonquin Table you must

I, <your name>, of the <Chapter/Warband/Regiment name> take up the Challenge. I vow, before my brothers and sisters of the B&C to complete one Index Astartes/Chaotica/Imperialis/Xenos inspired by the work of <Insert Author name here> and submit it to the Liber. I vow to support my fellow challengers to the best of my ability. May the Emperor/the Dark Gods/Brother Argos himself curse me if I fail. [Please leave a link to your article so I can update the first post, or PM me the link instead.]

Milestones

31st March: Complete 750 words of your article describing the origins and history of your organisation and post constructive criticism in three (3) other DIY threads;

30th April: Complete 1500 words of your article describing the origins and history of your organisation and post constructive criticism in five (5) other DIY threads;

(Final Deadline) 3rd June: Complete your 2,000+ word article describing the origins and history of your organisation and post constructive criticism in ten (10) other DIY threads.

Note: The format of your article is not strictly relevant, though it is encouraged to follow the usual DIY guidelines. (If you're not familiar with the article types, check out Brother Tyler's article template thread linked in the Liber Resources.)

Vows

Minigiant - Pr

Having been very familiar with the Vicious Circle articles previously, I love this idea. I may not pledge to the primary, but as one seeking to promote more activity in the Liber, I make a related Vow: To participate and contribute to most, if not all, of the Index articles presented through this challenge.

Sounds very interesting.

Is it limited to fictional stuff done by a certain author like Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos?

I'm currently working on my Space Wolves Primaris chapter, which is a combination of Warcraft's Orcs, 30K Space Wolves and the setting of Horizon Zero Dawn.

Yeah

Cthulhu Chapter

Sherlock Holmes Chapter

I even have an idea for a Stephen King Dark Tower Imperial Fist Primaris successor Chapter, and a Frankstein based cursed founding chapter.

I honestly do believe that there is a lot of great non-40k fiction available as inspiration for us

So it is about non 40K inspired chapters.

Closest one would be my Imperial Sons chapter, which is basing upon the Galactic Empire and the First Order. ^^

You know what, I think I'm gonna go with my Y'Rai Sept (Rebellion, Resistance themed).

If that'd be ok, my vow will soon follow.

I might as well resume work on the Star Haunters, a Denizens of the Deep successor, inspired by Robert E. Howard's own contributions to Cthulhu mythos. (Yes, I did get Minigiant's permission to use his ideas.) Hopefully, Writer's Block will remain lifted for the duration of this project.

I am hoping if we have enough participants that eventually I can turn the Vicious circle into an inner circle of sorts. Do a group project of sorts.

I even have an idea for a Stephen King Dark Tower Imperial Fist Primaris successor Chapter, and a Frankstein based cursed founding chapter.

Considering how gunslingers are viewed in 'The Dark Tower', I think the title should be reserved for the Chapter's elites, e.g., Honor Guards. As for the Chapter name, does "Sons of Roland" (also a reference to The Song of Roland and the titular "Childe Roland" in Robert Browning's poem) sound all right?

I havent given it much thought but my initial idea was for the chapter to be called Bolt Slingers. They recruit from a Wild West esq world. The main aspect was for their fortress monastary to be both a physical and metaphorical place, and they truly believe as long as it survives the Imperium will survive

Considering what the titular "Dark Tower" is, it makes sense if it leads to to the Webway. I thought of suggesting it was to connected to Holy Terra via the manmade portions of the Webway, and the namesake of the "Sons of Roland" was an Imperial Fists officer who was marooned on the other end of the Webway portal after Magnus' EPIC FAILed attempt to warn the Emperor; but reconciling the proposed history with canon may bee too difficult.

I, Kelborn, of the Star Lords chapter take up the Challenge. I vow, before my brothers and sisters of the B&C to complete one Index Astartes inspired by the work of Bernhard Cornwell, the author team of Blizzard and history itself, and submit it to the Liber. I vow to support my fellow challengers to the best of my ability. May the Emperor and Brother Argos himself curse me if I fail.

I want to dedicate this coming chapter to Lord Thorn, who initially had the idea and concept of the Star Lords and allowed me to further work on it.

This is a great initiative, congratulations on the idea :tu: it's always good to see diversified genres within the 40k setting, and a good way of doing that is to take inspiration from the greats.

I'm sorry to say I can't take part this time round, but I'll be following your progress with attention - as such I'll try to mirror Mileposter's pledge (and don't hesitate to PM me if I've forgotten one of you :P)

Remember too that theres currently a Black Library challenge that is calling for stories in various genres within the current GW settings, so this challenge here could be an ideal starting point if you so wish.

Good luck :)

Considering how Fate/stay night and Fate/Grand Order keeps genderbending historical figures, does anyone else want to create an Order Militant of the Adepta Sororitas that acts like a genderbent Astartes Legion? (I already made genderbent Space Wolves, though they hail from the jungle world of Catachan, instead of the frozen worlds of Fenris or Valhalla.) Let's be reasonable and keep these Sisters' Strength and Toughness at 3, unless they have a lot of augmetic and cybernetic implants, like the Skitarii.

After some brainstorm sessions, I wrote down the first notes and created the following color scheme:

I will upload them, when I got the basics done.

The name "Star Lords" made me think of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' leader. Will you include Drax the Destroyer as an ally from House Goliath, Gamora as an ally from the Adepta Sororitas, Rocket Raccoon as a Jokaero weaponsmith, and Groot as... I don't know... a combat servitor that Rocket built?

Ha!

Nice ideas.

Will keep them for later on. :D

Currently not intending to expand that much upon them.

Firstly: the Star Lords

Then: the corresponding cluster of worlds (about 8 or so, nothing big), including foes, etc.

The "Star Lords' " name is directly inspired by Peter Quill ^^ Peter Quill has the same sort of arrogance and bravado as Harry Flashman and Lord Flashheart who were some of the original inspiration for the Chapter, and plus "Star Lords", while sounding appropriately Astartes Chapter-like also sounds like a pompous and arrogant Chapter - which is exactly what I was looking for (at least at the time)

Edit: Side-note, I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before this guy is painted as Yondu:

One of the techno-barbarians who fought against the Emperor as He unified Terra under a single government, or a Thunder Warrior?

Personally, I thought of Yondu- the skinny one from the movies- as either an Eldar ally, or an Inquisitor (human, of course) who covers his face with woad to intimidate enemies of the Imperium. Both use psychic powers to control his arrow.

Lord Thorn has got a banner made for this event to get it a bit more publicity, looks pretty sweet to me

... Yup. Found it.

I, Mileposter of the Dread Counts, take up the Challenge. I vow before my brothers and sisters of the B&C to complete one Index Chaotica inspired by the work of Alexandre Dumas and submit it to the Liber. I vow to support my fellow challengers to the best of my ability. May the Emperor himself curse me if I fail.

The Count of Monte Cristo as a Rogue Trader-turned-traitor? The Man in the Iron Mask as an Iron Warriors war band leader? The Three Musketeers as Emperor's Children?
