Great to see new necromunda stories being released.......In :censored: zip format. :censored: that for a game of counting cards. Great books in a format I won’t buy as my last two purchases that came to me like that are still unopened and unread. Probably be in print in about 6 years. Ragin

I think it is the fact that you have to download the same zip file each day to get access to that day's story, it already includes the story of the previous day/s - as opposed to a new story appearing on your download list on the BL website each day.

Thank you for providing context for the first post, R_F_D. :tu:

PP: This a complaint that should be taken directly to BL/GW customer services. Complaining about it here will result in nothing and isn't constructive in any shape or form.

Windows even has a built-in zip opener / does it automatically with the Explorer on Win10 these days. I honestly don't see the issue. This is the most basic thing imaginable when it comes to downloading anything.

By the way, those epub files are basically renamed zip files as well. mobi are trickier because Amazon likes it overly complicated.

It's a pain to open them on iOS in my experience. I don't even know how to do so myself but I'm sure it's feasible. However it's beyond easy to open them on any desktop/laptop and the file sizes are so small downloading it multiple times (or sending it to a mobile device unzipped) doesn't make much difference. Personally I'll wait till they've all been published, download/open the zip, and email it over to my tablet. Edited by cheywood

Well that makes me feel a little better. I don’t use the computer much, but all the devices and computers we have are apple. I bought a few of the e shorts a year ago or so and could never get them opened. Waste of money! I had really really (so much) been looking forward to anything new that was necromunda related, gutted that it’s on this format.

If you buy the stories individually they'd be in ePub format. Maybe email BL?

Bought the bundle today to avoid the issue the OP raised. My bundle is missing Thursday's story by Nick Kyme...

That's odd. I purchased the bundle last Monday and didn't find anything missing when I downloaded it over the weekend. Could it be an issue with whatever file extractor you're using?

Just finished these. Overall I thought it was a solid collection of stories and I'd love to see some new long-form fiction set in Necromunda. A few of these shorts even seem like their characters could be the subject of their own novels/novellas. I would've liked to see a greater variety of gangs, but the focus on Escher/Goliath gangs makes sense with their models being out.

To give mini-reviews/rankings in order of enjoyment.

Scar Crossed and Burned were the weakest for me personally. The rest all seem pretty equal, quality wise.

Scar Crossed (Kyme) just didn't resonate with me. I didn't feel the foetid stink and acrid burn of the underhive when reading it. It's been a while since I've read anything of Kyme's, but to his credit this felt much more focused than I remember his prose being.

Burned (Hinks) felt similar. I didn't really care about the characters or feel a desire to learn more about them. His imagery and action were good (I usually think they are), but his prose always feels a little sparse for 40k.

I liked Dirty Dealings (Rachel Harrison). It gave an interesting look at the Enforcers and was a pretty good 1st person POV. Felt suitably punchy. I'm excited to see more from her. She's got the short story Execution out already and a few older titles under the name Ray Harrison (who I totally thought was a guy until today).

Once a Stimm Queen (Robbie MacNiven) was also quite good. It came the closest to giving a look at a 'conventional' day for gangers in Hive Primus, but ends on a nicely understated twist of its own. Personally I'd like to see these characters again in some fashion.

Death's Head (Josh Reynolds) was very atmospheric. Really conveyed the overwhelming cornucopia of environs within the hive and the ignorance that pervades the place. Felt very separate from 40k, like a weird post-apocalyptic western. Just as with RobMac's story I'd like to see the main characters again.

Emprah's Eye (Guy Haley) is definitely the most experimental of the bunch. It reminds me of some of the older short stories BL published where you could forget it was even set in 40k. Haley does a great job exploring the Ratskins and how their society works in a short span of pages. I found the twist kind of predictable and wasn't a huge fan upon first finishing it, but thinking about it later Haley did something unique here that's worth appreciating.

I would love to see a Necromunda novel from the enforcers POV. Investigating the gangs, the politics of the houses.

Basically a Necromunda Shira Calpurnia series with fewer rogue traders and more underhive stimm-dens? I'd read that in a heartbeat.
