Anyone been to Warhammer World?

For a first-timer, I'd say that yes it is! Plus I'm on the south coast of the country so have a similar 180 mile one-way journey.

  • Spend the money and get yourself entry into the exhibition halls. They have some marvellous boards that they've done up (including the massive 3-storey Ultramarines vs Khorne), a whole host of miniatures painted by the Eavy Metal* team, plus for the oldies among us there's some of the historic pieces such as Mike McVey's Emperor vs Horus. Plus you can do the 'Spot the Assassin' game - where they place an Imperial Assassin somewhere on the main exhibit, and if you can find it then you win an assassin and take your pride of place on the roll of honour. For first-timers its well worth it.
  • It's always great to go into the Black Library and Forge World shops. Black Library often have limited amounts of items that are listed as Out of Stock on the website, i.e. Limited Editions. Forge World is kinda dangerous, as you'll start picking stuff up off the shelves and suddenly realise you've got a few hundred pounds of items that can fit in your hands.
  • Bugmans is a treat, its not the best food in the world but it is done well and carries over the dwarven pub theme. I spoke to someone who was there a few weeks ago and they mentioned they had a giant 5lb eclair - it was suitably weird and over-the-top, the Bugman way.
  • There's a good amount of exclusives that you can buy all around. Plus they have a great stock of the various T-shirts, mugs, etc that you only see at events.

It will take you all day to get there and back again, so plan your route well. From Pompey I'd go M27 > M3 > A34 > M40 > A43 > M1. Once you hit the M1 there's two decent ways to get to WHW. I think the easiest is the newer route; take J24 off the M1 and the road will take you straight on into the centre of Nottingham - LINK. Otherwise you'll need to take the following junction (J25) and get into Nottingham via Brian Clough Way. Lenton Lane can be an arse to get to, so a bit of research and Google Street View is your friend before you head off.

One last thing, check the Warhammer World website to make sure there isn't something planned first - it's a hell of a trip to find out that certain parts aren't available.

* the word 'Eavy' autocorrects to 'Navy' or 'Easy', which is hilarious when you read it back.

Cheers got that mate, great analysis etc. Good point on checking events, like you say I’d not be a happy bunny if there’s something on

The Eclair is a meal by itself, don't be fooled. Men have died trying to eat it. Or given half away I can't remember. There's quite a bit of cool exclusive loot (but not the special dice... :( ) and raiding Forge World is always fun, and it's not the worst trip up from the island. All that said I think a fair portion of the fun to be had is going with your mates and having some games and I don't think I'd want that as a round trip. Better to have the time to relax and enjoy it as well as have a good nose through the exhibition I think :)

Gonna see how I feel in the morning and what the weathers going to be like too.

I went to Warhammer World a few years back, really great place, superb atmosphere and scenery. I really loved just wondering around the game hall ogling all the gorgeous tables and armies and chatting with other hobbyists. The display hall upstairs was fascinating too, just wall to wall display cabinets filled with vintage models from the early history of GW stretching all the way to the latest modern releases and all beautifully painted by the studio team, they even had a few of the old Slayer Swords mounted on the wall!

If you're a complete NEEEEERD like me it's an excellent day out, I heartily recommend it. :)

If you don’t fancy an eclair try the Ogre Breakfast or Ogre Burger for alternative challenges. I’ve seen failures in all three.

For those interested, here's a link to a PDF of Bugman's Menu so you can get an idea of what's on offer and what it'll cost you: https://20889-presscdn-pagely.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/Bugmans-Menu-June-2017-Web.pdf

A little disappointed to see they no longer do the "Fat Bloke" meal they had last time I visited (lovingly named in honour of former White Dwarf Chief Editor Paul "Fat Bloke" Sawyer), if only for the amusement of hearing a waitress call out "Two Fat Blokes?" as she brings them out and witnessing my Dad & Uncle raise their hands only to sheepishly lower them again as they realise the implication. XD

Weather has been fine this week (even saw daylight leaving work) so that shouldn't be an issue. Don't forget to take some pictures - and try not to bring the colder weather back as I did ;)

Don’t worry mate I’ll get pics. I still haven’t worked out how to put pics up yet even though I’ve done it on other forums in the past.

For those who haven't seen some of the more recent additions to the Bugmans menu, or simply don't believe the prospect of a massive eclair, then take a yonder:

That eclair is to much sugar for me mate but I like the look of the breakfast though.

Yeah it's great and totally worth a visit but I would perhaps spend the Night in Nottingham and make 2 day break out of it so you're not overly tired, and can enjoy Nottingham also.

Also you can have a XXXXXX in Bugman's too if you are driving up instead of getting the train.

I didn't know about the find the Assassin but I did know about the find Josef Bugman game.

We couldn't find the assassin when we went.

Was a great day. We're thinking of booking a table there at some point.

The train the back to london was, eventful, as well. :smile.:

/salute Grantham ladies darts team!

Edit: We took pictures of ourselves in front of the Rhino in the Parking lot. ;)

Just got back about 10 minutes ago. What a place! Wish I’d had more time there and wish I’d gone with someone else but there you go.

Got loads of pics.took about 200 photos shall I put them in this thread or start a new one?

Spent some money too and tried to blag an Eisenhorn miniature but they were having none it.

I really want to go up there but it’s a long way for the day. Have to sweet talk the wife and kids into a weekend at Nottingham I think

Plus id need to go after pay day. Can’t go there and come away empty handed

Honestly mate it’s well worth it. I’m glad I went and I’m going to go again later on in the year hopefully.

If you are going to Warhammer World and fancy a game, be sure to get on the Bugman's Bandit facebook group. It is the local (mostly 40k) gaming group. Very nice group of people, if I may say so myself.

It does make me smile seeing everyone's excitement to go to a place I pop past on my lunch break...

Question for people who've been recently. How much are the FW mugs? I'm keen on getting the SW ones (I believe there are three of them currently: Leviathan, Legion symbol and newer Legion symbol with axes?).

Mugs are pretty much £10 each, not exactly cheap. However they do have a huge selection of them.

Plus there's three newish ones on the Exclusive Merchandise page of the Warhammer World site.

This is the swag I walked away with £170 lighter3udQ2D.jpg

How much is the re-printed hard copy of Rogue Trader?

I'm glad you had a great time.;-)

Did you spot the Assassin or Josef Bugman?

The rogue trader is £36 mate. I’ve seen it going on eBay for £60+ which is ridiculous! I honestly forgot about spotting the assassins and I didn’t know about Bugman. Maybe next time I might take the time to have a go
