Recovering Command Points Before Battle

Hello rules section! I looked at all the posts in here concerning stratagem use and didn't come across anything that answered this question.

There are many methods of recovering command points available to a variety of factions. Personally I play Blood and Dark Angels, who have a relic and warlord trait respectively.

My question is this. Do you get to roll to recover those command points that are used prior to the battle's start?

Even more complicated, if I am using the Dark Angels warlord trait, and then use the Armoury of Baal stratagem to get the Blood Angels relic, would I get to roll to recover the command points? Would I get to roll twice to recover the command points (once for trait, and once for the relic itself)?

I suppose it depends on the exact wording.

 

If it specifically says ANY time you use command points I would think you can indeed roll to see if you get them back.

Warlord traits usually requires your Warlord to have been deployed on the battlefield. I think there is something about it a FAQ question, but I can't for the life of me remember with Codex it was for.

Both the astra militarum "grand strategist" and the BA relic requires the warlord/bearer to be on the battlefield. So you would only be able to roll for strategems used in and after the deployment phase.

 

The DA & UM warlord trait does not have this "limit" so I would guess you can roll for strategems used pre-game.
