Would this be at all feasible?

Geigor Fell-Hand

Leman Russ

The Wolf-Kin of Russ

2X 10-Man Grey Slayer Squads, each with Bolters, Artificer Armour + Melta Bombs + Thunder-Hammers on Sergeants

Leviathan Dreadnought Talon (all with Armoured Ceramite and Phosphex Dischargers)

-1 with Siege Drill

-1 with Storm Cannon

-1 with Grav-Flux Bombard

Or would this completely fall on its face?

Right, I've had a look at it and I think (and I'm no expert), it would fall flat on it's face (in terms of effectivness - althoguh a lot depends o nthe mission, amount of cover and deployment).

Your low model count means that there are very few targets, so opponents can focus on clearing them one at a time. You have no real long range firepower, so I feel you would be walking into a firestorm and don't have the protection (vehicle shells, bodies to act as abaltive wounds) to survive. You have no way to threaten flanks or the back-field, so the opponents firepower is likely to be un-affected and consistent through the battle. And the few bodies you do have are also the only ones who can hold objectives, so using them offensivly diminishe's your abilty to score objectives.

But, that said, it will look cool.

I fear that the first time you hit a 'Deathstar' you are goign to falll hard.

Love the concept and on city fight style tables you might be ok.

That said you are slow on foot and really not able to soak up heavy fire. Personally I would drop the grav Leviathan and look into increasing your grey slayer numbers or taking another squad or perhaps a flyer to give you a way to apply pressure to back fire support.

If you opt for more slayers taking bloodied claw and getting 2 bowls of the death wolf will help you get bodies up the board quickly.

I hope that has helped.

It would totally fail in missions where you need to score (and hold) objectives.

2 x 10 Power Armour guys will be evaporated in no time, leaving you unable to score.

Stray's advice is very sound, going Bloody Claws, increasing your number of Slayers and dropping one Leviathan.

The list is bad, but I think the one thing it could handle is a deathstar. It would have to be quite a star at 2000pt to run through a Primarch and 3 Leviathans.

Hello Mr Leige,

I doubt it would ever be a situation where Russ and all 3 Leviathans where in a position to counter a Deathstar (Primarch + Term bodyguard and support HQ of choice in a transport). You are talking about 65-70% of the Dudes army, commited to one melee. He might, if that situation somehow occured, defeat the Deathstar, but I would bet a shiney penny that he's lost he game. The rest of his army is a couple of characters and 2x 10 power armour Dudes... .

My issue is Russ. Either he is alone (and so the Deathstar drowns him in AP2 hits) or he is in a unit (reducing the units effectivness and still the 10x Grey Slayers, kitted as they are, are no match for kitted out terminators).

A Fire raptor would cost less than the 2x 10 Grey Slayers and would chew them up.

The walking Leviathans can soak up firepower, but some dedicated Anti tank (Laser Vinidactor spring to mind as a commonly seen/utilised option) will soon account for some if not all.

These aren't 'hard counters' but common things in everyday play :-)

And just as a measure, I threw this together using esimates of costs. Rouoghly done but could be switched for most Leginos. Nothing over the top, combo tastic or spammed to death.

LOW 450 Primarch (ROW Pride or Primarchs Chosen)

HQ      50  Centurion

TRP  280 5 Man Terms with some gear

         350 + Dedicated Transport - Spartan

TRP  210  10 Man Vet Squad (Sniper for Outflank)

           35  + Dedicated transport - Rhino

Elite  160  2x Rapier Batteries

Elite  160 Cortus Contemptor (Chainfist)

Hvy   220  Fire Raptor (Autocannons)

Hvy   150  Laser Vindicator

give or take depending on loadouts/legion around the 2000pt mark

Hi,

thanks all for the advice!

in response to Luke's last post, I am fairly certain the wording of Grey Slayers as troops choices ("must be taken as compulsory troops choices"), overrides non legion specific ROWs (so pride/chosen). But it layers in a funny way with Russ making vets and varagyr compulsory choices as well, so idk if that allows primarchs chosen or not.

Also, I feel that putting 10 man vet squads in rhino's is not the fluffiest choice, and would rather take larger grey slayer squads on foot for the same points.

Finally, the tables I play on are heavily covered in terrain, usually multilevel stuff, so lots of cover, and narrow areas, hence the many leviathans idea.

If the small army size is an issue, and you all feel more bodies are better, I could always try and spam as many grey slayers as possible?

so, e.g.

Russ

1 centurion with thunderhammer

1 centurion with lightning claw

3 X 20 man grey-slayer squads with vexilla, 2 PF, 2 LC, all bolters, thunderhammer + artificer + melta bombs on sergeants

1 Spartan with flare shield

or would a mix of the lists be better?
