“What did you do? Answer me.”

“I saved him, Khârn. It was the only way.”

- Khârn, 8th Company Captain and the Primarch Lorgar Aurelian

Greetings Loyalist and Traitor alike!

Unsubtle title, hey? Welcome to my log of what is my new project, the equally unsubtle XII Legion. After a long break from the hobby, I have decided to finally get my juices flowing with my World Eaters, a project I have been sitting on for a while with boxes of bits hanging around waiting to be built. Those of you who know my previous work, my Flesh Eaters and my Black Legion, should know what to expect - I have always had a ‘thing’ for the more blood thirsty Chapters and Warband aspects of 40k, so my first foray into the Heresy was always going to be Angron’s unwanted sons.

As you may have guessed buy the quote from Betrayer, I am going to be setting this army as late heresy, post Nuceria. By that, it will be post ascension of Angron and coloured in the newer, white and red scheme published by Forge World. I won’t be going overly Khornate, but there will be a few Khorne runes and fetishes dotted around the army - the warriors may not even know what it means or simply view it as a good luck charm - I am sure the fact that their Primarch has turned in to a :cussing huge Daemon Prince have some baring in their outlook in life ! My decision on the late heresy setting was also helped by the fact Angron is currently out of stock at Forge World, surely a sign from the Blood God? ;) Righto, enough rambling, time for some pictures. First up, test dude -

He was basically just thrown together with spare marine parts, there is in fact only his head, shoulder pads and arms that are actually HH !! Quite happy with how he turned out really, as white can be troublesome (the red and brass were already decided on) and I wanted it to look good, but not take an absolute age to do as, let’s face it, I don’t get a great deal of hobby time any more. I will be going for the green glow on power weapons and eyes as per my Flesh Eaters. Also, I know his pose doesn’t look particularly late heresy XII Legion (ie, lost the plot pose!) but hopefully his mates do a bit more -

And finally, my entry in to Grotsmashers “Warlord Conversion Challenge” over in the WIP forum, Praetor Drakus Ghorn, 17th Assault Company -

I know, I have done the cloak of skulls in the past, but it just feels right for this guy! So the story goes, he was killed at Terra after rampaging his way through single combats with loyalist champions and adorning his cloak with their skulls. He was last seen duelling a red skinned Daemon thing with an equally impressive cloak of skulls atop a statue of an aquilla, enveloped in blood red smoke at the height of the fight obscuring the outcome. Neither was seen once the smoke abated. Maybe. His powerfist is magnetized, as will his back pack be for a jump pack, as I am planning on running two squads of assault marines :tu: Also in the works (read in a box, unbuilt under my bed) are a Spartan, a Leviathan with a Lucious Pod, and some various things requisitioned from my other armies including a Deredeo. I also have 50 FW Chainaxes of varying types :tu: The Spartan in particular is a point of interest as I have had it for 3 or 4 years! Surely, now is the time :D

Anyway, c&c most welcome, hopefully you enjoy the bloody ride and in the words of the XII, “Kill or be killed!!”

Cheers guys, glad you like :tu:

@ Charlo - exactly the look I was going for!

@ Marshal Loss - the background has always been one that has fascinated me. Angron has always been my favourite Primarch, and the tragedy of his story as it has became more detailed. I am hoping the centrepiece of this army will be the FW Daemon Prince if and when it is released.

@ Kizzdougs - thanks bro, glad you approve! Hopefully get a grind on the next couple of weeks and get this first squad painted :)

@ Fang - thanks man :tu: these guys will be running in the Spartan, the next bunch will be the jump marines, which I am going to magnetize (ie future proof :D ) Chainaxes though, will be everywhere. EVERYWHERE!!

Woah, they look great! I haven't followed your previous blogs but I'm surely going to follow this one! I'd love to see what you'd do with a DP model when you get one and/or Angron

@ Warpmiss - Daemon Prince you say? It has been known - http://i.imgur.com/1tqBEsc.jpg - :D not any time just yet for this force however

@ Bro Heinrich - Cheers mate, glad to be back, hopefully for a while yet. I actually like the new 8th edition, though I have a strong dislike for some of the new fluff cough*primaris*cough, and the HH has taken off a lot more at my club scene in my absence, so here I am, gotta build an army and to be a proper HH player it needs painting! :D

@ SkimaskMohawk - Yes mate, the red blood was done with Tam Clear Red, which is pretty much Blood for the Blood God. I do mix in a little Nuln Oil for the deeper ‘coagulated’ red blood, but the splashes are indeed straight from the pot. The shoulders are just Mephiston Red with an Agrax Earthshade wash, then repapplication of Mephy Red, then just Chardon(sp?) Granite for the chipping. Hopefully just the photo as it was harsh daylight lol

Yea it's the light then, the blood appears flat like normal paint to me, so I'm sure there's a bit more depth to the red normally.

I painted some beserkers recently, first time painting red in forever, and I was amazed how bad it looked before a wash and how good it looked after one.

Yeah, it does look a bit flat. Maybe the Clear Red was varnished over with a matt varnish? I tend to add blood once the mini has already been varnished so that it keeps its glossy/clear finish.

Lovely to see you joining the Heresy, MR! It's funny - I was just rereading your old Flesh Eaters plog the other day for inspiration on something I've got coming down the pipeline myself, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this thread!

Personally, I think the blood looks good the way it is -- it kinda feels like drying blood, not dried, not wholly wet, but somewhere inbetween the two -- and I'm a big fan of the small Khornate touches you've given to everything. Looking good, eagerly awaiting some more licks of paint.

Many thanks Soldier of Dorn, glad you approve. Unfortunately, Photobucket has ate my Flesh Eaters log (as well as my Black Legion one). When I get time I will get both armies out and take some new photos for the Hall of Honour, maybe add my Necromunda Goliath Gang too :tu: RE the blood, dry or wet the I care not as blood, blood is forever you know ;) That marine purposefully does not have much on him and dried fits in well, the despoilers will need it wet, and a great deal of it :D

Sorry, no priming yet so no painting, in the meantime however have a squad leader -

Khargor Bane’s name sound familiar? He is actually my Black Legion Terminator Chaos Lord, leader of the Black Harbingers (see what I did there?) His head is from the World Eater Terminator upgrade kit, and it is one of my favourites in the game and I always include it in an army. Bane obviously survives the Heresy (unlike his Praetor....) and eventually takes The Black becoming a feared despot of the Black Legion. He sports the Khorne rune on his torso too, again he prob thinks it is a good luck charm or it pays homage to NuAngron. Either way, I will not ‘over Khornate’ the army, but there is going to be the odd touch.

Note his two friends: guy on the left I have used a Khorne Bloodreaver arm so he can be ‘at one’ with his axe. Guy on the right however has a bionic as a cautionary tale of what can happen to an unarmoured arm....!

Also, thank you guys for all the likes :tu:

Obviously just done the white so far, which is pretty beat up even for me. It does need a little work here and there but pretty happy so far :) They do look weird without shoulder pads!
