A question of Purity Seals.

Greetings everyone, I have a quick question regarding the use of 40k-era Purity Seals on a Heresy-era Legion.

 

My main 30k Army is Word Bearers, and I've been using the FW Legion specific torsos to denote Artificer armor for my Mk.IV Sergeants, however, since there's no Mk.III Legion specific torsos for the Word Bearers I've been wondering about slapping some "Purity Seals" on the Mk.III Tac squad sergeants to denote Artificer armor.

 

From descriptions, it sounds like an "Oath of Moment" fits the description of current-age Purity Seals almost exactly. Plus, seeing as this is the XVIIth Legion it seems as though it'd be fitting for them. Would this be an acceptable method for denoting the Sergeant w/Artificer armor, or, do you think Purity Seals would look out of place on a Legionary? Thanks in advance!

Imho, I don't think they'd look out of place on Word Bearers at all.

For Word Bearers, definitely go for it. For one thing, there's the Oaths of Moment (although I kinda dislike how something that was the Luna Wolves tradition was basically taken over to be a general Legion thing, but that's just me), but there's also the faith of the Word Bearers. They did create the Chaplain program, so purity seals definitely aren't out of the question.

I think it was an irony thing. Traitors invented chaplains. And librarians. And purity seals. All the stuff that really differentiates loyalists from traitors, traitors invented half of it.

 

Plus, on the main topic, they don't need to be oaths of moment or purity seals. They could just be devotional scripts, hymns, accolades, whatever. Of all the 40k trappings, little slips of paper are one of the easiest to explain in 30k :)

My Loyalist Emperor's Children have plenty of oaths of moment/purity seals (all of the sergeants, most of the HQs, and all of the Legion Terminators).

My Alpha Legion don't have any...

The black book pictures of Word bearers legionaries (both pre and during heresy) Literally all have some sort of prayer scrolls (likely verses from the book of lorgar) attached to the armor, so your probably good...

Oath of Moments are definitely your answer. I’ve got a Night Lords Dreadnaught covered in Purity Seals and I don’t think it’s out of place.

There's a 40k Fabius Bile book where Flavius Alkenex, a Traitor Prefector of the Emperor's Children, is still wearing his Oaths of Moment:

 

“Ancient oaths of moment, all either happily unfulfilled or proudly broken, fluttered about his armour.” Excerpt From: Josh Reynolds. “Fabius Bile: Clonelord.”

 

So even for some non-Word Bearers Traitors they're still a reasonable thing to model.
