Adepticon RE: Sisters Plastics in 2019

The cynic in me (woof) suspects that there will be entirely new units and that they will be better than the units that can be represented by the old metal models.

While that is always a possibility, there is pretty decent evidence this won't be the case - the primaris Marines despite being new aren't objectively better than their vanilla cousins

I hope there will be more than one Troops choice as many tournaments limit rosters to 2 of the same units which has been very tricky (and often meant the selection of a different army) for my competitive friends

That kind of restriction may make sense for other slots, but for troops that's just ridiculous.

Anyway, even while I'm a pessimist at heart, I can't see them doing this half-assed and not adding new units, weapon options etc. That shouldn't by any means make the metal models obsolete, as the current weapon options will stay. Specialist units might have some visual cues to differentiate them, but on the other hand it could be a "do-it-all" kit with options for all the unit choices in one. Which would have its pros and cons - on the upside you'd have a silly amount of weapon options in a single kit, but on the downside cost per model would likely go up, and you'd be more limited in the variety of model poses.

Not updating Sisters for 14 years (since the ‘04 mode release) then cashing in on the hype train when they do? GW’s worse than a rogue psyker on the feast of the Emperor’s Ascension :P

That said, this will be great, assuming I like the sculpts :P if not, I’ll stick to my metal army and maybe pick up some on eBay of the price for them drops. Overall this is super exciting. Hope is beating my cynicism on this one, partly because with how explicit this was it would almost be false advertising if they didn’t do plastic Sisters now :D

About new weapons: the better fall under the holy trinity, but I already know I’m not likely to love any new fluff they do for Sisters based on what they did to Celestine

I wonder if they are just going to roll the sister's of silence into the SOB codex and model range?

But the SoS have absolutely 0 to do with the SoB . . .

Edit: holy crap I’m that one salty Sisters player now, aren’t I? Well, at least I’lol be happy plastics exist and that we get fluff even if I don’t care for some of it. I think there’s a fairly good chance the models will be fantastic, and GW could still surprise me with the fluff

Edit2 I guess my one thing will be that they don’t mess up Saint Lucia. She’s my favorite 40k character :P

A few things.

First, Great job on keeping the faith, glad to see plastic Sisters of Battle an eventuality.

Second, old metal and plastic Space Marines go UP in price, old metal and plastic Sisters should do the same!

Third, and this one I hereby notify the mods I would like to make a discussion thread about, what new options, units, and Sisterhoods need to be made? As in, SoS and SoB are not one and the same, but, Sisterhoods fighting side by side, or, I guess, mini-soup, could be great.

I also think a Sisters should go back to the, in this case, 3+ ws and 3+ bs with S 3 and T 3 if that is an option.

I one day hope to see both FeMarines and Sisters; I fully understand the first might not happen. As always, the how, and how to make the hobby, fluff and game better is the needed next part, especially for the if of the first one.

I saw someone mention somewhere that in the fluff the Sororitas had some role in the SoS surviving to this modern day and age? Which, if true, could make it logical to have them in the same codex. Further, expanding the SoS to a full army like they did with Custodes would frankly be ridiculous at that point, and to what other codex would you put them to if they don't have their own? I mean, here we are wishing for anti-psyker things. SoS are anti-psyker. Problem solved?

Some SoS orders rebranded themselves as SoB orders who had taken a bow of silence to hide themselves.

Also, forgeworld has given them a few options, and they have the potential to be a nice army themselves, if GW would want to go down that route. Given them an HQ and move the prosecutors to troops and you'd have a Scion equivalent army.

Not actually this section's mod, but we've had substantially this thread in the past. A few times actually.

I still like the notion of cleaving to the trinity, but producing a longer ranged support option, by stuffing an Avenger Bolt Cannon into the casement mount of a vindicator chassis.

I don't play Sisters, but Plastic Sisters of Battle is something I'm very interested in, as I've had a side-project for my Khorne Daemonkin involving female models. So that announcement has me very excited.

This heresy would normally prompt immediate prometheum cleansing but we are selfishly happy for your project to be back on track :D
, I know. Seriously, until that was announced, I thought I could only get female Bloodletters (thank you Witch Aelves/Sisters of Slaughter) and counts-as Warp Talons/Raptors (Khinerai Heartrenders/Khinerai Lifetakers), as I only had two female models that could work size-wise for the 'mortals' for the KDK (Neave Blacktalon and Inquisitor Greyfax).

But this announcement makes my EXTREME heresy a viable option now.

At least it's Khorne. So sick of 'slannesh 'cause ladurs durk-a-dur!'

Well, anything CAN be expanded to a "nice army" - but does it really make sense? I'm kinda annoyed personally by having many small detachments that I'd need to have their codices for to play them at this point, when 8th was supposed to require less books, if anything. Well, that has been patently untrue as the indexes have been already largely rendered obsolete aside from some unit options.

Not only would the SoS be yet another Imperial army when there are already quite enough of them, but also a plastic female human army when they haven't even released the "original" one. As a very casual player it's impossible to keep up with the abilities of other armies as it is, which makes playing games against those armies slow (what does that do? what is THAT?) and frustrating.

I'm fairly open to the idea of sisters of silence joining the battle sisters.

Personally I feel repentia and archoflagellants fulfil too similar a role for both to be redone in their current form (realistically). I also think repentia as they are currently are a bit too sexualized. I would keep the idea of repentia (imo essentially death oath sororitas) and move it sideways - say power axe melee specialists who take on the big nasties, expecting to earn a martyrdom. Then flagellants and penitent engines can still have a role and repentia can be part of a dual kit.

My wishes for the new models and Codex would be:

1. Replace all current metal with plastic. This would include Penitent Engines, Exorcist, Acro flagellants, etc.

2. Add a new troop option. Having the BSS as the only troop option is very limiting.

3. Add in a super heavy support vehicle. Maybe a mobile cathedral. Several mods showing a church on a Baneblade would be a good example.

4. Add a stratagem option for 1 CP to increase the reliability of the Exorcist. Maybe be able to roll 2d6 and take the higher roll. Or even get off 2d6 shots, but take a wound on the Exorcist as you push the machine spirit  beyond its normal capability.

5. Make the Penitent Engine able to use the Acts of Faith.

6. Make the Dialogus able to amplify the Canoness' command bubble. Sort of using their Laud Hailer to inspire troops within 3" the reroll 1's.

7. Give us more command options. We really only have the Canoness, Celestine, and the Shotgun Hobo. Why is he even one of our commanders? It would be nice to have something akin to the Space Marines' Lieutenant.

8. Give us Order specific abilities. I really think GW will have this in the Codex, but I would like some special abilies unique to my Order of the Bloody Rose.  I think that is totally within the realm of possibility.

What I'd like/hope to see is (taken as obvious all the old options in plastic...):

  1. Give something special to Celestians. For example an Inv. Saves. Or Melee weapons.
  2. Something big. A giant robot, an heavy tank, something like that.
  3. Super-heavy Infantry. Gravis have showed that Terminators aren't the only possibility for Imperium.
  4. Palatines as HQ. We need them, expecially in a edition that invites to take more HQ.
  5. Jump-pack Canoness. They already exist in the lore: the Geminae Superia are the proof. They were Canonesses before to became Living Saints and they were already equiped with Jump-packs.
  6. A Sisters VS Someone else box. Because it's cool and it gives you the possibility to get lots of cheap models. The best would be Sisters vs Emp. Children with the Chaotic commanded by Miriael Sabbathiel.
  7. A new Living Saint. And more exactly I want something more powerful than Celestine, something Primarch leveled. I want Saint Arabella (the only founder that isn't KIA but only MIA).

Yeah, it's true that the two things that SoS and SoB shares are the fact are both full female power-armored armies and that are both witch-hunters, but here the similarities ends.
Sisters of Battle are fanatics and rappresent all that SoS hate of modern Imperim. SoS would never joins Sisters of Battle permanently.

Arco-flagelents are Ministorum. They can go. Repentia don't need power axes, they have eviscerators. I don't see the Repentia as sexualized. There are no suggestive poses, no butts stuck out, no duck lips etc. To me they show the horrific epitomy of Sororitas faith. They are looking to die for the Emperor after all.

Oh trust me, I know. I think that might be because there is ONE canon fallen Sororitas, and she's a Slaaneshi warlord now.

The whole project started, ironically, because I saw a picture showing corrupted Sisters of all 4 Chaos Gods and was like "Of all the Chaos Gods, I could see Sororitas unintentionally falling to Khorne". Which then lead to me buying two boxes of the Witch Elves/Sisters of Slaughter, Lelith Herisperax and the Darkoath Warqueen for my female Bloodletters, solely because of the lack of female power-armoured models (didn't want to try converting Sisters of Silence when I have a small Talons of the Emperor force).

Well with the beta rules coming to CA, at least we'll have an opportunity to inundate GW with feedback. If something is grossly not on the level- eg exorcists being even bigger paper weights than they are now (i have no problem with their d6 shots; it the immensly pathetic damage they inflict that i do), we can call GW on it. Whether they do anything about it is their perogative, at least we have in the very least, a perceived opportunity to give feedback to help create a balance.

I don't see why a new topic couldn't be started. As long as it adheres strictly to the rules, especially the one of no off topic posts. It's understandable that we're all excited and that most of us have honestly thought the day would never arrive, but it doesn't mean that silliness and off topic behaviour will be allowed...

Despite being a huge chaos player, and having a shelved (till codex) stealer army.......

I am extremely excited for plastic sisters. as it turns out I have 3 rhinos sitting around from a former marine army with no home, plans to pick up cannonness Virdiya from the GW website and Celestine at some point when I find her on sale this year.

I played sisters about 10 years ago when I was fresh out of highschool and had an army of some metal ones, I quite like the mechanics and thought they were incredibly fun and interesting (not just "more imperials") despite using the standard imperial "holy trinity" of Meltas, Flamers, Bolters.... I quite enjoyed them, neat segue from "Marines" to "Humans" to landing smack dab in the middle with interesting mechanics to make up for not having "orders" like guard, or stats like space marines.

Given an all new plastic range will be coming, and with the very distinct possibility that Sisters of Silence may fold into them.....It seems as if we are more then overdue for a very large new range (probably in the realm of the chaos redos with about 9-10 unique kits each if we look at DG and 1k sons) I think this release will be a little bit beyond our standard "new army" fair like Custodes or Stealer Cult with about 5 or so unique kits.

I am of course making a mountain of assumptions here, but trying to be rational through the excitement.

I have a strong feeling that like with the recent Tau Codex (now establishing different buffs and rules for the different Tau Septs), the Sisters of Battle Codex will have different bonuses for the different SoB Orders:

- Order of the Bloody Rose (Blood Red Armour, Black Vestments)

- Order of the Sacred Rose (White Armour, Black Vestments)

- Order of Our Martyred Lady (Black Armour, Red Vestments)

- Order of the Ebon Chalice (Black Armour, White Vestments)

- Order of the Valorous Heart (Black Armour, Black Vestments)

- Order of the Argent Shroud (Silver Armour, White Vestments)

This would add more depth to the possible tactics while also encouraging different colour schemes besides the iconic (while amazing) Red on Black from the Order of Our Martyred Lady.

I'va always been partial to the Silver armour for the Order of the Agent Shroud myself.

kind of hope not.  I've always done a mix of color patterns for my squads based on their role, all inspired by the classic orders.  Troops are the red and black, heavy support black and silver.  HQ and Celestians white and gold.
