Death Guard and Forge World

I’m just curious if anyone has tried using many of the Forgeworld pieces?

I have trouble imagining most of it working. Perhaps one of the more obvious choices is the Fire Raptor. I think it could keep up with Mortarion (for example) and has the fire rate to take down the chaff screens some armies put up.

I also looked at the Soulburner Decimator, but it’s pricey and doesn’t benefit from any of the DG strats or rules really.

Anyone have experience with these units with DG?

Anything FW? I've used the Plague Hulk, Contemptor, Necrosius and Mamon. I've got tanks but I won't field them until I've converted them to match the army.

The Plague Hulk I admit I used incorrectly. I expected it to be a good long range unit to close in with the enemy and it sorely disappointed. It has unreliable BS and should be sent to the front ASAP to tear enemy units apart and reduce opponent vehicle armour via the Rusting Curse rule. I've never used it's Sword, only the DCCW equivalent. VERY difficult for the opponent to remove from the board. Mine took concentrating fire from both Marines and T'au and shrugged most of it off just to walk into CC and punch Suits to death (and a Dreadnought). Played him against 'Nids too and he was pretty useless seeing as my buddy fielded swarms and, again, the ranged attacks are less than reliable.

My Contemptor is armed with a Butcher Cannon / Kheres Assault Cannon (whatever I feel like using it as) and a DCCW. It's actually really effective and with two Cannons I can see it deleting enemy units a turn if you use it correctly. I didn't have too much luck, but this was more due to the opponents I was facing (T'au Stealth army and Raven Guard Marines, gods damned Cover Saves). When I WAS able to get wounds off using the Butcher Cannon, it reaped a decent toll especially against the fish heads.

Necrosius is actually REALLY good. He's quite deceiving when looking at his profile until you factor in that he can take 2 Powers and Deny 3, benefits Poxwalkers, has a 4++, and has similar stats to Typhus for a little more than a Plaguecaster.

Mamon is alright, I guess. He's a Daemon Prince without wings or Psyker abilities but can act as a decent beatstick and has two abilities (Fist of Decay & Pustulent Stomp) that act as a damage multiplier.

I'm sure you were looking for feedback on tanks & fliers, but figured I'd throw these in anyhow.

I asked about such things a few weeks back lol.

Thanks Duskraider I was interested in Necrosious as a friend got me the nurgle sorseror to use as him.

Im guessing you dont have any experience with the greater blight drone?

I have a game with it (and a bloat drone with plague spitter to compare) next week so i shall let everyone know how it fairs

No, unfortunately I used to have a rather large amount (9) of Blight Drones and used them in 6th but sold them off a year before our codex came out. From what I hear though they're overcosted and are kinda garbage compared to the Bloat Drone.

I regally have leviathans in my death guard list.

Because they have the Helbrute keyword they gain the benefit from the army trait of moving and ignoring the -1 to shoot heavy weapons.

I have a DP walking up the board with two leviathans 1 x twin grav 1 x twin butcher cannon arrays. Both hitting on 2+ re-rolling 1's, the DP also allows me to cast -1 to hit on one of them.

Mamon is unfortunately really overcosted.

His points went up from chapter approved with no corresponding buffs. In total you have a DP that moves 5", isn't a psyker, his reroll 1s only benefit himself, WS 3+ and with no armour save. Now his melee attacks are pretty good at smashing mulitwound units like Spawn or something like that, and his pistol flamer is really good. But way too overcosted.

I've used Necrosius, he works well enough among several Powwalkers with the buff and psychic powers.

Plague Hulk should be up close and tear :cuss apart and harass the enemy. But are not really worth the points.

Greater Blight-Drones are unfortunatley aren't as good as Bloat-Drones, but I do love the model so I usually run mine as Flamer Bloat-Drones.

Leviathans and Fire Raptor i've seen work with Death Guard with succsess.

Leviathans I'll have to look into.

I appreciate all the Forgeworld Feedback. I just mainly ask about tanks because I own a Fire Raptor, Sicarian tank, and a Decimator Dread. None have paint because I'm trying to figure out which army they are best suited for. So I regularly try to figure this out because I'd like to paint them one day! (they could fit in with Ultra, Deathwatch as well.)

Most of our tournies are restrictive of FW so it's mostly for personal games.

One of my closest fiends plays with Forgeworld models in his Death Guard and I have faced them multiple times.

He always runs Necrosius - I must admit he has fantastic rules and is an obvious upgrade over a regular Plague Caster.

He also runs a Leviathan with Dual Grav and that reliably gets work done against any target. He runs Hellforged Predators sometimes - doesn't favour them over regular version in particular, and has expressed an interest in a Sicaran but doesn't own the model.

Fire Raptor is excellent - it can get into any army. I've not really seen it with DG, perhaps it doesn't fit them as much visually?

I think the Double Grav Leviathan is just so damn strong. Had one at our last Apocalypse with a single GFB chunking wounds from super heavies left and right. A real pain to put down too!

Screen with Pox and it's not even vulnerable to being tied up.

Wow okay... I was hoping to supplement the army with some funky FW unit. That's pretty extreme. That unit must be amazing. (I've only see it in batreps)

Meanwhile my Soulburner Decimator and Raptor remain unpainted. lol

Each gun does d3 str 9 -5 Dd3. For every 5 models in the unit you get an extra d3 shots; if it has the monster, Vehicle or titan keyword the damage is a flat 5.

So with both guns shooting at a 5man squad of anything you get 4d3 str 9 -5

It's very pricey but you're looking at 20 wounds per shooting phase against a vehicle or monster, or huge droves of light infantry removed as well.

The issue with the Leviathan is that people are a lot more wary around it as they've come to know what it does. Chaos Leviathans are far superior to the loyalist variant because of Warp Time - You could be conservative with it before moving it twice to get into range.

I've recently started using a Scorpius - very handy vehicle! It fits DG well also, although I'm not sure if the Crawler is simply a more preferential option.

I really need to get back to work on my Levi. I purchased him with double grav, but magnetized him just in case. I really want to test him out in my next game, though at my group's usual point level it will be overkill.

I think the leviathan really stands out in a death guard list as inexorable advance allows you to be more mobile than other factions leviathans. I'll be putting that to the test though, my buddy has a loyalist one with grav and storm cannon.

So provided I get in gear and at least finish building him, we'll see what wins out, better range, or better mobility and accuracy.
