Storm Bolters and Sisters

So, I'm a little confused and elated here. I was browsing through Index two last night and I saw that sisters units can equip three storm bolters in a squad of 5 girls. That is pretty damned awesome. Also, I noticed that Dominion Squads can have 5 storm bolters and they get to move before the game starts.

I know that there is a holy trinity with weapons for the sisters and that there is one model with the sister with storm bolter. I'm a huge fan of bolters and I was wondering if anyone had tried a bolter bash army with sisters using Dominion squads with 5 storm bolters in Immolators with preferred weapon?

Even the troop squads can have three storm bolters. Their not as powerful as the Aggressors but they are cheaper and can mount up in vehicles. Just one of the Dominion squads can have 40 bolter shots when in rapid fire range. That is pretty damn good imho since they are as good as space marines when shooting and have all the extra rules.

Edit: I am wondering if storm bolters will still be an option when the new rules drop. Obviously we are still 8 months away from those rules but I still wonder.

Currently there are two sisters models with storm bolters that are on the GW site.

I'm actually surprised there are two versions of this model.

40 shots? I only get 20... (5 models*4 shots each...)

Take a browse through some of the army lists posted in the Adepta Sororitas section of the forum, could provide some inspiration. General trend is to kit out Doms with meltas (because that scout move is so, so good) and they can be in range turn 1. Due to the general lack of long range antitank in the army, this is the factions go-to delivery method for antitank, but doms with stormbolters could be a thing.

As you stated, stormbolters are great on battle sister squads. Lets them pump out a good number of shots. 3x5 BSS w/3x stormbolters is a common way to flush out a battalion.

And why are you surprised? Just because the figures are metal doesn't mean we can't have nice things...

Are the 40 shots from the Act of Faith?

No I was failing at math. :(

Yeah my bad. 20 shots. Still really good for the cost though. I see what you mean about the Dominion squads being used as the anti-tank role. When ever I did discuss sisters, which was over a year ago really, I never thought about using them with storm bolters. So when I was looking through the index the other night I was really surprised at the options they have. They can really unleash bolter hell on enemies. Then I figured this line is so old that I'd be lucky if they even had a sister with storm bolter. And I found two different models. I was just really really surprised. I'll take a look into your lists for sure.

Thanks again everyone for the comments!

Storm Bolters used to be awful, but have had a hell of a turnaround lately. I haven't used the two I have yet and whilst I'd like to get a lot more, I don't play enough games to justify them, because by the time I get around to it, their plastic replacements would likely be here!

I use a full squad of 10 Dominions, 5 with Stormbolters to clear chaff. Each one has an imagifiers for them, and a Cannoness accompanying each group of Dominion squads. It will hurt screens from 24 and absolutely murder them at 12"

Each squad at rapid fire will kill 9.5 ish guard each time they fire, and has enough shots to out the fear of the Emperor in bullgryns with a 2+/2++.

That is something I'm considering honestly. I might be moving closer to Vegas soon so I want to make sure I have a cool and fun army to play at the LVO Friendly in 2019. Still considering my options. There is something nice about metal miniatures that you don't have to glue together. Plastic sisters in 2019 is awesome and I'm looking forward to it. I'm just wondering if I invest in the army now, which will cost around $800-$1000, will I be happy with the old miniatures when the plastics release? Should I just wait? Will Sisters have as many storm bolter options with the new rules? It would really be horrible to spend $180+ dollars on storm bolter metal sisters and then find out their selection has been made invalid 2 months after I get them all painted up. Ya know? Also, what if the scale changes and all the old miniatures are dwarfs to the new girls in armour? I don't think it will be as bad as primaris marines but still.. It concerns me.

I have a few months to decide still so we'll see. I might just say screw it and grab em up. But I'm looking a few other armies as well for now.

Another option could be to get a small group to play Kill Team, when the new rules come out. That way, you get to play Sisters, get some metal models, but not have to worry about the cost of a full force :)

A large portion of my 3k or so army are eBay wins, so it might be worth keeping an eye open for people trying to off load their armies now

Ohhhh! Good idea! I wonder how much I'll be able to customize the Kill Team. It would be pretty cool if I could have a few sisters, a marine or two from Deathwatch with a inquisitor. ^_^ This is most likely how I will proceed.

I don't know much how the new Kill Team is going to work to be honest, but it would be a good way for you to dip your toes in with Sisters and not have to go "all in" :)

I fell in love with the Stormbolter in my first few games of 8ed. I had three but proxied a couple. Now. I have 45 Stormbolter Doms. I always have at least four squads in Repressors in all my lists. Though I do bring some Melta Doms and Seraphim toting inferno postols for AT.

I have found that a Dominion Squad of 5 Sisters, all with Stormbolters, is both an inexpensive and fairly effective Fast Attack choice to fill out a detachment.

That is what I was thinking as well. I was planning on making veterans with Storm Shields with them. But I actually think it is better on the girls.

They should be in rapid fire on the first turn and

This is brilliant! I love it! ^_^ Pretty sure I'm falling for sisters and I just found a BUNCH of things I can build while I'm waiting for the plastic models to be released.  If you have some good ideas on how to custom build some of the stuff for Repressors and Exorcists please take a look at my post here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345797-sisters-of-battle-conversion-request-for-help/

I took some Vindictators, ripped off the big gun and then put a garden of Morr piece on it. It, uh, looks cooler than it sounds. I'll have to post a pic of it.

I did the math on special weapons for my Tactics for Units on Dominions, and stormbolters in rapid-fire ranger are, point for point and in a complete vacuum, the best special weapon we have. Stormbolter dominions are a fantastic cheap unit.

I stress complete vacuum, though, because statistics like that don't match actual play, and there are always situations where you'll want the unique capabilities that flamers and meltagun bring. But stormbolters are great. Very great.

A while back I ran a simulation. Point for point stormbolters are more consistent and more dangerous per point.

However, Flamers deal more damage per model, and deal more "peak" damage, so there's still a place for them, especially when AoFaithing.

Meltas are amazing for tanks and heroes. Especially since Dominions are fast as heck.

I have been using 5-9 BSS squads with Boltguns + Stormbolters to use as a buffer squad to inhabit the middle of the battlefield and throw some bullets towards my opponents as they squirm under the Dominions and Seraphim.  They throw usually about 10-12 shots at range, which is not bad for their cost, and can easily finish off units that meander their way from the fast attack kill pocket as they close on the field over turns 2-4.  They attract very little attention, too, which makes them great going into the final few turns where those boltguns can really shine.  Get too close and they're throwing 20ish shots.

That's usually how I build my Battalion's up.  2 BSS squads with Stormbolters (usually in the 7-9 range as points permit), and then another BSS with flamer, combi-flamer, and heavy flamer (these usually do my deep strike clean-up before heading up the field later).
